States with inspection have shops do inspections. Usually the inspection is cheap. When I lived in Virginia it was 16$. So unless they found a failure then they lost money. So they always found failures. They make stuff up. I had a pep boys inspect a car and tell me brakes were down to metal when I had just replaced the wheel cylinders and shoes and hardware so car would pass. The brakes worked perfectly and had like 12 stops on them. I demanded that he show me and he pulled the no customers in the shop due to insurance bill shit. So I told him I was calling the state police unless he showed me them. He did then admitted that he never pulled a drum and I pointed out the new wheel cylinder as and new hardware still with it's paint and shoes still showing the factory paint marks on the edges. He put a sticker on it. If I didn't know about cars I would have been robbed for 350$ in brake work.

Traction control will kick in on JEEP vehicles when the steering wheel is NOT calibrated straight. What happens is that the inertial-accelerometers are telling the computer that the car is going straight, but the steering wheel tells the computer you are turning. This mismatch triggers the traction control system to activate and correct for the imbalance. You need to align the steering system AND re-calibrated the steering feedback to stop the system from activating. My Jeep Wrangler will do the same thing - probably other cars do as well. My jeep did it with just a small misalignment after replacing a tir-rod end. When the wheel was turned just a bit more - BAM, the traction control activated on every left-turn, but not the right turns. @5:22 in the video it didn't activate because you weren't turning.

Over here in the UK we have a thing called the MOT Test. It is a compulsory legally required inspection for all vehicles 3 years old or older. It has to be done EVERY year and it is a VERY strict list of standards. If you don’t have the certificate it voids you car insurance. Because of that if your stopped by the the police they will impound the vehicle then issue fines and penalty points for an unroadworthy vehicle, driving with no MOT and driving with no insurance. A lot more expensive than the £50 the test costs. The Test examiner would take one look at that seatbelt and steering wheel and instantly Fail it before he even gets in it to do the rest of the test.
@WrenchingWithKenny10 ай бұрын
Wow! That's a good way to keep car & people safe. In the USA, each state has their own criteria for vehicle inspection. Some of the cars I have seen in North & South Carolina would never pass an inspection up in New York or Connecticut. I appreciate your reply. Thanks for watching. Keep wrenching 🔧

you forgot to tell him they literally check the torque on every nut and bolt! meanwhile my state was contemplating discarding the idea entirely untill resale because the ONLY money it makes is on the sale of the inspection stickers to the garages. also, we're apparently draconian compared to the other surrounding states. I'd heard a single *flake of rust* can get a vehicle declared Junk
@simonatkinson110710 ай бұрын
@@anonymuswere I assuming you live outside the UK. what you’ve been told isn’t true. They don’t ‘check every nut and bolt’ then fail it on a ‘single flake’ of rust. In a very simplified description an MOT test is a detailed Visual inspection. They also have equipment that vibrates the front suspension to check for excess play in the joints. They also use an emissions tester for the exhaust gas. On older vehicles rust is expected and is only an issue if it is excessive especially around structural bodywork, on suspension components or near Safety points like seat belt mounts.

Missing the steering wheel center badge (recalled years ago and never replaced), airbag light on (failed Occupant Restraint Control module, took it to the dealership and they said they'd call me when they had a new one in to replace it in - that was well over a year ago as well), and the TPMS light (although mine was blinking because one of the modules had failed - that one I was able to get fixed at a local tire shop). But this one is a LOT worse! All my stuff is fixable if the parts ever appear.
