yeah it was exactly my thoughts about the episode. While it's sad for obvious reasons, it's also happy, because they met, and have grown older together, and leave together. I couldn't imagine myself keep living in an apocaliptical world in Bill's situation, after the love of his life died, so I completely understand what he did. Anyway, what a gorgeous episode.
@gazlator Жыл бұрын
You've got a really major point there, Magy; for the scriptwriters to weave a story about two hitherto unknown characters, in a single episode, so that the ending hits with such emotional, heart-breaking impact (yet somehow with such dignity) is an astonishing achievement just by itself.

I cried so much in this episode as much as you did magy. This episode gave me a reason to believe and to love again. The last of us isn't about zombies, apocalypse or action. It's about characters regaining what they lost and connecting with each other. For joel... its about losing a daughter and gaining one again. This is why the game is so great and different from other games because of the great love it brought to everyone. Also, its okay to cry. Because it makes you feel better afterwards 😊

Exactly. I can't count how many times I've told people that even though it's a zombie game, it's NOT a zombie game. It's so unfair to reduce such masterful storytelling down to that, and it's a shame so many missed out on it until now.

This is NOT heart breaking or sad!!!! For those, like me, who very lonely lives, this is a very happy story. What people like me wouldn't give to have that for just a year!!!!!!! I am going on 50 and never had a long-term relationship. It's only the people who have been with MULTIPLE people that thinks this is sad. THINK ABOUT THAT!!!
@jdovma1 Жыл бұрын
My friend, what is this in response to? I said moving, not heartbreaking or sad. Sounds like you were moved by it too. The post was meant to be about how hard Magy reacted to it and how I hope her heart never goes callous. Although, any time someone needs to end their life bc they are deteriorating is tragic, even if it ends their suffering, which is obviously a good thing for them in that situation. We just wish the situation wasn't so. You don't know this, but I have more experience in this than you realize. There is obviously beauty in the story, but it's a tragic beauty. For those that it saddens, we wish the end didn't have to happen and they could go on being there for each other. There's nothing wrong with finding that heartbreaking. Or heart warming, either, as you do. It's not one or the other, just how it affects the person individually based on their own sensibilities. A lot of people may find your situation heartbreaking, as well. Not in a pity sort of way, but just wishing it could be different for you. I really am sorry that you've been so lonely, and I hope that wont always be the case, but the internet isn't a great place to project your experience on to others. Because you don't know who you're talking to and what their life is like. You might just be making bad assumptions based on the few dozen words they used in a comment. I wish you well, and hope the universe grants you a path to a fulfilling relationship if possible. I don't know your obstacles, I just hope they can be overcome. Peace.

so I watch a lot of reaction content and yours is always some of my favourite because so far you are the only person I've found who cries as much as I do at movies and tv but speaking as an lgbtq person here, I don't think I have ever cried quite this much. From the first kiss onward I was an emotional wreck. Everything about the story was so beautiful and I could not have asked for it to be handled better. A lot of times when you see the deaths of lgbtq characters its for the shock and nothing else. The reason this works is because Craig Mazin chose to linger on it, not just on the death but on the beauty that came before. And then the death itself is really just the best anyone can hope for in a world like in the show. Seeing two men getting to be in love and grow old in seemingly impossible circumstances just fills me with so much hope for the future. And seeing a story like this done so well and with so much respect gives me hope for the future of lgbtq representation in media. This episode was a masterpiece and I don't think I'm exaggerating to say that I believe it will one day be considered a truly important moment in lgbtq media

"Just love me the way I want you to" This was an important episode and I think people need to understand that. Sure, it deviated from the game. And yes, in a certain sense it may have been a "filler" episode for some. But it was important to show this unexpected love that grew in a dying world. To let the viewer see that even with everything going on, something good still came of this. Bill & Frank would have never met if the circumstances were different. Nick Offerman & Murray Bartlett put life into a story we never got to see in the games. Which enriches the world that Neil Druckmann & Craig Mazin are building. The deviation from the game worked here. As Neil pointed out, they wanted to stay true to the game in the majority of the story, but if there were areas where they could "improve" upon the game, they would. This did that. They did such a great job adding value to the story, even if it replaced part of the story we knew. Leaving the core elements of the game the same while expanding the story like never seen before. Not mad one but. And truthfully, it lends itself well to Joel & Ellie, who are now on their solo adventure together. One heck of an episode. Great reaction!

The little rock tower thing Joel makes at the beginning of the episode is called a Cairn. It's an ancient tomb marker and/or trail indicator. They can be used to mark a path, or as a way to honor a soul's solitary trip to whatever is next. More recently people have used them to mark a grave in honor of someone when a body isn't present, and they can't make a traditional grave marker. Some people put them up on their property if they aren't near where the body is buried as a sort of shrine or memorial to bring peace, calm, and fond remembrances.

The beauty of this episode is that it subverts our expectations. We've been conditioned through modern storytelling to fear everything, especially the benign, the innocuous. Dolls, children, children with dolls, dolls that look like children, all manner of seemingly harmless and familiar things, trying to kill you. We expect that any kindness will be answered with violence, that any trust met with betrayal. We as an audience have been primed to fear the most faithful of friends, the most reliable family members - especially in this particular genre of horror - and when we encounter a story about caring and commitment amongst the ruins of a dying world, we don't know how to process it and it hits hard. "I was not expecting this" seems to be the most common refrain, with good reason. This is ostensibly a series about a 'zombie apocalypse' where anyone and everyone can go from being a kindred soul to a mortal threat in an instant and no one is to be trusted. Yet this particular tale is about love, both matrimonial and romantic. It's about allowing oneself to be vulnerable and in that vulnerability, finding those aspects of existence that are both intangible and priceless. We expect a calamity, a personal buskin beyond the destruction of our civilization. We anticipate a type of misfortune that never occurs. During the worst catastrophe in the history of human kind, we bear witness the best thing to ever happen to these two humans. We await a devastation that never comes to pass, that expectation of tragedy is subverted by a story of love. We expect blood and destruction; what we get is a masterpiece about small, beautiful lives lived less ordinary. This is one of the best stories ever told on film, in my opinion, and it's based on a video game; we've come a long way from Pong.

THE LAST OF US was originally going to be a movie, but development and financing stalled several times, dragging out the process. There were some big name actors considered for the movie. Can you imaging Hugh Jackman as Joel and Maise Williams as Ellie? Like Maise Williams, Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie) were also in GAME OF THRONES, but never appeared together, only meeting at table reads. Bella is British and has a talent for accents. She was 13-14 when she played 10year old Lyanna Mormont, who had a thick 'Scottish' accent for the character. She was only supposed to appear in one episode but impressed the producers so much that they brought her character back for 8 more, including the grand finale where she went out like a bad ass. Her expressive face and fierceness made her a fan favorite. She is now 20 y/o but because she's tiny, at only 5'1", can easily play a kid for many years to come.

The episode is about the main theme of The Last of Us. Surviving vs Living. Bill taught Frank how to survive, and Frank taught Bill how to live. The difference between the game and the movie happens during that argument in the street. In the game Bill says absolutely not, Frank starts resenting him because he’s an extrovert. Eventually Frank leaves, gets bitten, hangs himself to not turn. And leaves an angry letter to Bill, to which Bill swallows his tears and feelings and goes, “Well then fuck you too”. Bill will die bitter and angry having never lived at all. In the show Bill compromised a bit, and let Frank love him how he wanted to love him. Let him make a friend, Tess and Joel. Spruce up the neighborhood. Frank in turn compromised and settled for just that. It’s still an apocalypse, he can’t invite too many people or do too much. So they both died satisfied, in each other’s arms, after a full life. In either case their plot purpose is to teach Joel that surviving isn’t enough. In the game Bill shows Joel how bad and purposeless his life can be if he doesn’t open up. In the show Bill shows Joel how good it can be if he opens up. Joel reads the letter and realizes that Frank died happy. And Tess died never having that chance. So he starts opening up a bit. Both Bill and Franks are sides of the same coin. The bad ending. And the good ending.

I cried once every 15 minutes this entire episode. This is one of the most beautiful and emotionally powerful episodes of tv I’ve ever seen. This felt like a movie that I guarantee would be on every critic’s shortlist for best picture at the Oscars. Neil Druckman said in the BTS video after the episode that he and Craig Mazin had this philosophy on the show was “when should we deviate and when should we come back, if it’s kinda the same or worse then they stay (completely faithful to the game), if it’s better we deviate”. I’m SO DAMN HAPPY THEY DEVIATED! And I’m so happy that it ended with them dying together instead of Bill just forever living alone like in the game. Also I loved the Mortal Kombat 2 cameo. And of course Ellie’s favorite character would be Mileena. Tragically yesterday Annie Wershing who played Tess in the game passed away at 45 due to cancer. So when they showed the flashback with Tess and Joel I cried. Rest In Peace Annie Wershing.❤❤

This episode is the most diferent at the game because in the game only metioned whit cards what happens to Frank and show a Bill more dramatic and paranoic whit all the traps but its intersting how in this serie make enfasis in the most human side of this character

It's crazy how I'm watching this from both video game and the real life "story" of TLOU. Because In the game Bill is alive, but after watching this ep, now I really see why his behavior is the way he is. And yes Bill in game calls Frank "my partner." Also like I told Homies channel I've played the game for at least 3 years worth of play time including the Online lobbies when the server was still working for PS3, Neil Drackman I completely tip my hat to you sir.
