That sound as I stood on Luton station with my dad and a 1d platform ticket in the fifties in the dark, gas lamps glowing and then the sound of that whistle as the 'Jub' came around the corner on the down line, the glow from its firebox door in the fog as the platform trembled under my feet and I clung to my dad so excited, my little heart pounding as the carriages tickety-tacked madly until the red tail lamp receded into the darkness. I was hooked for the rest of my life. Thank you for this memory.

I lived at Luton on the Midland Mainline in the 50’s & 60’s & this brings back vivid memories for an avid gricer. Never thought to take any pictures as it was so commonplace.

Wonderful footage, spectacular audio. 'Galatea' doesn't half keep up a good pace. The Fiddington sweep is a treat. A joy to hear the up-tempo percussive rhythm of the engine and coaches singing past without the drone of a following diesel. No drain-cock wheeze. No crossing gongs (except one distant tinkling). No nasty camera shutters. Had to watch and listen thrice. TFP

Hi, I was there with you. I’ve lived in Leicester all my life and did my linesiding in the 50s and early 60s mainly between leicester and Loughborough, and I fondly remember the “Jubilees” roaring and bellowing as they went by. This awesome video certainly rekindled those memories, it was beautifully filmed (thankyou!) it the lack of a banking diesel was most welcome.

Great video and regards the `jubs` seeing they were only 3 cyls they were pretty powerfull, sadly when I was trainspotting back in the 50/60s most of these beautiful locos were poorly maintained and most of them never realised their full potential, all credit to the dedicated staff who maintain these locos today and also much credit must be given to the drivers also I know sometimes it has to be done but it spoils the whole ethos of the train journey when a deisel is used, by the way 45562 was Alberta.

Another excellent video, with the Jubilee working hard and looking good. The numbers game is confusing, but it is the owner's perogative, to do what he likes with his engine. At least we are able to see it on the Main Line and not static in a museum.

Great video, though I've given up on trying to understand the numbers and loco names for a couple IIRC of this class. Last September I travelled from Australia, using a lengthy Eurailpass in UK and Europe. Not long before I departed, RTC cancelled the day tour on which I had booked, citing lack of bookings. Sad, but later in 2023 I've booked another one so second time lucky maybe. Terrific that you could catch up with the train as with so much traffic in the UK, this must be very challenging on some roads.
