This show has changed everything about how I play guitar. I used to have 3 pedals blues driver, tube screamer, and a hall of fame all running into a Marshall 40W combo. This was a utilitarian rig but uninspiring to me. Now I have a wet dry rig with 9 pedals, and I just get lost in the sounds. I can play for hours and always find something new. Thank you guys for doing the show and ruining my marriage LOL

I'm on the same path man. Use to turn on the crunch channel and find the "heavy sound" on it. Now i build my pedalboard with Ts9 > Od3 > clean channel, with good mids, less bass, plenty of tones in that clean channel now. I can't even decide how to set both overdrives hahahah i keep finding new things between TWO pedals, just TWO. And the Flanger adds a lot of colors in it. This channel is making my life funnier. Thanks to those guys.

HAHAHA, same here man. just had one overdrive with a reverb and delay. Now my board is like a real touring board with all kinds of pedals, with expression and tap... the whole bit. So I use 2 analog delays and 2 reverbs. Longish (500 me) in front of a orange 50w and slap back in to he effects loop. I run that into 4 10's for the bottom end and darkness 10's give you. It makes analog delays sound great.
@ronnieeagleandthealchemist23337 жыл бұрын
Indeed Ben. Start with a good tube amp receptive to pedals. I recently went ground up with a gothic SG and Marshall DSL 2000. I run 4 pedals (fuzzes, PS-5, mxr chorus) before an ES-8, which has ten pedals in it (all of them sweet), then after all that are the always on Diamond compressor, EQD tone job (eq pedal) and the Hire Wire Mesa Boogie Buffer (amazing). My tone is pretty spot on and unique as I went with the happy accidents whilst also studying tone overall (which meant ditching and switching pedals at times) and having that meet in a happy middle. About the only thing i'm missing is a quality analog delay. That Cub pedal is enticing. thanks you boys, keep it up.

Adds a little something to a clean tone (especially on an amp with a lot of headroom) and does a great job of tightening up a ferocious high gain amp.

First off, I love this channel, and have recommended it to my guitar playing friends. I enjoy listening to/talking about/trying out pedals/sounds/amps/guitars as much as any of us guitar junkies. I've been playing for about 48 years, currently in 2 bands and own and run a recording studio. That being said, I have been feeling that something has been somewhat missed here, and it could be summed up in a word: context. The thing about guitar, especially electric guitar, is that it all happens in a wider context. You guys do a great job of including the amps and guitars in your presentation of various effects pedals. However, what I find to be mostly missing is the greater context of other instruments/players/vocals, etc. A particular amp/pedal/guitar combination can sound really awesome on it's own, on your show, or in the studio, but when you add it into a live band situation, or a multi-track recording, "your mileage may vary". I know you guys know this. I would really like to hear you address it a bit more in your shows, and perhaps even find a way to focus on this aspect more in your testing and evaluating. Thanks for the great work!

This video is fantastic, it explains everything I hear in delay and why. When I was a far, far younger man I bought a Boss DD3. Because you're supposed to have a delay pedal and all your hero's use them...... I didn't like it at all. I spent most of my time practicing unplugged or through one of Marshall's Park branded little amp's (we're talking 90's here), as opposed to my big Marshall DSL with my wah, delay, tubescreamer etc... Whenever I heard what I'd just played coming back at me in perfect fidelity it totally screwed my playing up, as Mick said "it's gets in the way". Fast forward to today and I bought a Mooer ANA echo, again the songs I'm covering in the band require it, but the difference is UNREAL. Analog delay sounds soo good, it's an actual component in your tone as opposed to being just a perfect repeat. All these sound fantastic compared to the Providence to me. Great video :-)

@ThatPedalShow7 жыл бұрын
+Andreas Kyriakou Any way you like it. If you just have one drive sound that you love and the amp does it... happy days! However , most of the sounds we love tend to be a combination of guitar - pedal - amp (think about Jimi, Gilmour, SRV etc etc etc). So for us it's not an either/or thing. It's very much either/or/both/all!

Awesome demo guys! I'm a huge Boss delay guy, standard live "big board" I use the vintage DM-2 and a DD-3 for long delays in the loop of my Marshall or the front end of my Fender amps along with a Subdecay Spring Theory for reverb (does a cool room echo for solos also). That said for my small board I wanted True Bypass pedals so I've settled on the Retro-Sonic Vintage Vibes analog delay and a Lovepedal Gen5 Delay for long delays, gets me real close or better than the boss setup without the "too many" buffers issue. I also run a Subdecay Spring Theory on that board to. So, I have to agree with Dan, the SD Vapor Trail would be my pick! There is a good video on youtube that compares it with the Analogman and another delay, claims the components are the same? Check it out, thanks again guys! Joe

I've had all of those analog delays, except the Panther Cub. The little Moog is FABULOUS and includes expression pedal control too (as is the Moog Chorus in the same Minifooger line), but in that same price class I'd recommend the Malekko Ekko Dark delay--just a gorgeous sounding, clear and somewhat dark delay. I wish the MXR Carbon Copy had some of the Seymour Duncan adjustability, but I find the MXR sounds better to my ears. Also of note, the Carbon Copy can double quite nicely as an analog chorus at a short delay setting.

I love your guys videos so much! Simply fantastic! Every time I see that little dot on your channel, I get real happy. You guys are consistent with new videos and always entertaining. Thanks so much for putting in the time. You guys basically have the job I wish I had. Lol. That being said! There are a few delays that I simply can't wait to see in your videos. Many feature a self oscillation footswitch as an option and I'd love love love to see you guys screw with them. -Belle Epoch Deluxe - I got one of these on launch day and it's absolutely incredible. I feel like Dan will lose his mind over the build quality, recreation of the exact original EP3 preamp circuit and the various Memory Man inspired options built-in to the pedal. Connecting an expression pedal to this pedal is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard. -DOD Rubberneck - Simply gorgeous and incredibly well-thought-out all analog delay with tap tempo. It also has subdivision selections. The self-oscillation hold switch and "Rubberneck" hold switch are insane and super musical. Again, I feel like Dan would completely lose it over this thing. Haha. -Caroline Kilobyte - My fav delay currently. The "havoc" momentary switch is simply the most musical and wonderfully tuned feature I've ever used. Simply a beautiful pedal with a growing fan base. (Tip, turn the delay and distortion almost all the way up, the delay time all the way down, and the repeats at 9oclock and you've turned the pedal into a distorted slapback pedal with a havoc switch that now self oscillates a harmonized feedback with each note you play.) -Tonal Recall RKM - Obvious reasons that I won't even waste time typing. Haha. An incredible incredible pedal and worth revisiting after the updates. If you guys did a video with these pedals, I might have a heart attack, wake up, drink some beers and watch the video, and then die completely happy. Truly, thanks for your time. Lol

The two Analogue Delays I've come to keep on my board are the Way Huge Echo-Puss and the Walrus Audio Bellwether. Both for different reasons, the Echo-Puss because of its clarity and tone shaping but also because for self oscillation is just AMAZING. If you've ever heard Yngwie do his crazy effect solo on his delay, he does some crazy explosion sounds and this nails that and also just is so musical while oscillating. I was wondering if the circuits of the Carbon Copy and Echo-Puss were the same... The Puss has a couple more knobs to twiddle but essentially the same, as do both have 600ms delay time. I won't go into the Bellwether other than it is a monster 1000ms delay (BB), with tap, modulation, and an effects loop! I mean using an overdrive in the delays is awesome, or any effect you choose while keeping your dry signal unaffected. You guys should definitely consider featuring it.

One thing to keep in mind with the Moog MF Delay is that it is often used with Moog synths like the Mother 32, where the Drive circuit takes on a different characteristic with a smoother synth signal as opposed to a more percussive guitar input.

Any chance of a video where you focus on putting pedals into the loop of a delay like you did with Seymour Duncan Vapour Trail?

Another great show. I have the Carbon Copy on my small board & its rock solid. The moog was epic only wish; a master volume to tame the drive boost.

I actually know gigging musicians that turn the ehx Memory Man delays off and only use it as a boost. This really should be a pedal all its own.

First off, love the show, love you guys-never stop. Two things I think I will just never “get”... The appeal of fuzz or modulated delay. 🤷♂️

Any chance we could get an episode about MIDI rigs and using MIDI to control pedals?

I don't need my eighth drive pedal but apparently since I don't have the true overdrive pedal, I do.

i had one for a day. reminded me of the overdrive channel of my old HT5--very modern-sounding to my ears. not my cup o tea, but may be yours.

Mick, you and the Gretsch are the perfect pair! And great to see you using the Carbon Copy. Have that as well... and I might join you with the Gretsch ;) Such a beautiful guitar, Snowcrest White!

That Gretsch is easily one of the most beautiful guitars I’ve seen in my life.

Ordered a Panther Cub V2 after watching this. It’ll go with my Sunset I bought after watching your video on that. Not sure if I should watch more of these episodes 😂👌

Not sure if you guys have ever used this but the Empress Tape Delay is pretty amazing for its size. Pretty sure its analogue with a digital brain. Pretty wicked. Worth a try.

Best part of this video @ 43:28 Dan grabs the left foot switch on the Panther Cub as if it was a knob to turn. All this delay must have gone to his head by then apparently!
@thehound21615 жыл бұрын
I loved that as well. I was waiting for something to happen there. That Panther had him thrown for a min or two.

Used to own the Vapor Trail. Very nice tone but I just could not get over the flashing LED. Since I mostly use slapback echo it got very annoying very quickly. Although it was not the pedals fault but mine.. That Moog sounds absolutely DIVINE.

Every time Dan shouts, "YEEEEAHHHHH!" it always sets off the deja-vu part of my brain that thinks I've heard that before... and it's been driving me crazy. When he gave that shout at 11:00 the answer popped into my head. It's the same shout of, "YEEEEAHHHHH" Leslie Nielsen cries out when the fish bites his nose in Vincent Ludwig's office in the first Naked Gun moive. Proof..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PGopqVbJWcY9km22s (If you go to this link be sure to come right back and watch the rest of the video ;) ) That's been bugging me for ages! :P

Thanks guys! Would have liked to be in the room on this one. Minor Note: add the D'Adario Chromatic Tuner to your lineup (lower right, between G2 and Three2One) below. As far as the pedals discussed, 1st impressions: MXR Carbon Copy sonically is straightforward, to the point. I think that's why so many people enjoy using it. My own preference is the "Bright" version that Mick mentioned to offset the traditional darker analog trails. I think Mick's assessment of the Moog is spot on, although I have only personally heard the MF-104M version ((www.moogmusic.com/products/moogerfoogers/mf-104m-analog-delay). Two other functionalities that the Moog delay offers is an expression pedal and MIDI capability. I know the time is limited, but I would also give a listen to Tripps' original AquaPuss (www.jimdunlop.com/product/whe701-7-10137-04616-0.do), the SupaPuss (www.jimdunlop.com/product/whe707-7-10137-05414-1.do) which has an expression function or even the Echo-Puss. I like the idea of a future "Always On" episode. I would e interested in seeing a contrast of pedals like the Prism with MXR's EP101 ExhoplexPreamp and/or MXR's new M293 Booster Mini (the Echoplex Preamp in a mini footprint), and an Original JHS Colorbox and the Hudson Broadcast.

Great ep!! From what I can see on their amps website, Jackson has split into two sister companies, Jackson Ampworks (amps...obviously) and Jackson Audio (pedals). The success of the pedals and subsequent split apparently allowed them to lower the price of the MK II amps.
@legozach775847 жыл бұрын
IMO, can't go wrong with an MXR Carbon Copy in the effects loop of an amp with volume at 10, with gain just high enough for pushed cleans. Boost for high gain, pick lightly for cleans, and the delay always on just sounds glorious.

Great episode... Two of my all time favorites-- the DM 2 and Mini Fooger. Also: Gretsches really do have a sound all their own don't they? Great playing on Whispering too Mick
