In this preliminary episode (yes there will be more, based on the questions you ask following this one) Daniel and Mick get busy with the rockingest - literally - pedal of all time, the fantabulous manual foot-treadle-operated envelope filter.
That’s the wah-wah pedal, just in case you hadn’t worked it out by this point.
We set out to address a number of questions ranging from the basic to the slightly less basic: what is it; how does it react with overdrive and fuzz; what is a half-cocked wah, and just how does the Vox V847 Handwired compare to the standard V847? Burning issues, all.

Just in case anyone's wondering "Q" stands for "Quality" and is usually described as being higher when the frequency band is tighter, I tend to think of it like a knife, a higher quality blade has a finer, sharper point. Bugged the hell out of me through college until I went and looked it up!

Love Wah got a few over the years , but just recently Purchased a Boss PW 10 V Wah all in original box with manual , it hasn't been used at all not a scratch on it , the Shop wanted £59 I knocked them down to £50 , there is an awful lot going on with this pedal its not just a Wah it has lots of Boss Drives and Fuzz and a Booster and Uni-Vibe , fully programmable , you can mix and match effects and can save up to 3 of your own custom Patches . Its really fun pedal to use especially the Vocal Wah the "Oh Yeah " sounds great with a Bass Guitar plugged in .

Best wah I've ever used is the Ibanez Weepin' Demon. It's the best pedal of any kind I've ever used, infact. It's my desert island pedal. It has several knobs to tweak the sound. It has the auto-return when you take your foot of the pedal it goes off. And it sounds absolutely brilliant.

I have a 1969\1970 Vox Wah and a 1976 JEN Double Sound (fuzz + wah): the Vox is nasal, vocal, cleaner and slightly "thin", perfect for Hendrix style stuff, the JEN is bassier and dirtier, but still very articulate, it has more "balls", I'm Jimmy Page when I play that wah! ;) This to tell that are the same quality, they come from the same factory...

Man that was unfair to the Boss V-Wah. I own five wah pedals - MXR MC404 CAE , Dunlop 535Q, Dunlop Jerry Cantrell, Vox V846HW Hand-Wired, and the Boss V-Wah.You cannot expect the Boss to sound just like the original but when you start using the other options it has like the Bass Wah, Advanced Wah and creating your own custom wah sounds like it lets you do it is really very good - it is its own thing and to my ears currently its right up there with my other Wahs.

I've had V Wah since it first came out, and it's incredibly much more broad than what's shown. You can customize the range of attack from shallow to super deep. The stock settings you guys are showing are very shallow. If you take 30 minutes to learn how to use it, you can create all those wahs on the board. My only issue, and it might just be mine, but it seems to cut out the sound when it's turned off and on. Might need to do a factory reset to correct that. I also forgot the built in Uni Vibe, Suppressor, Vowel simulator, and multiple Distortion pedals. It has four presets, so you have four different modulators in one pedal... and a suppressor! C'mon brobinos... Get your shit together. hahaha
@NobodyNewsNetwork
@NobodyNewsNetwork 2 жыл бұрын
Same, I have had it for 20 years or so? My only issue with it is I wish the built in boosts, fuzz, distortion, could be set up to turn on once the wah is engaged rather than always on.

If anyone wants to try a cool trick (in my opinion of course) take your wah pedal and put it after your fuzz pedal,turn on the fuzz and turn on your wah but keep the pedal in the forward position (I don't know the technical term for it but you know what I mean) crank your fuzz and it will almost have an octave fuzz quality to it.Maybe this is something everyone already knew about but I just thought I would throw it out there

Great video! Even tho I've been playing electric for ~24 years, I'm always learning something new. I had no idea that a fuzz pedal had such a massive frequency range. I read somewhere that fuzz pedals acted like a filter pedal and mixing a wah and a fuzz was like mixing to freq filter pedals. I never understood that. Your explanation about what a wah does before, and after, a fuzz pedal was really helpful and insightful. I think I like the sound of a wah going into the fuzz, as it keeps the guitar sound large, and doesn't shrink it - for reasons you already explained. And Daniel Steinhardt, does playing the wah bring your inner shred out? :D Good stuff!

I concur with Carl. I love you guys but it concerns me when l so value your opinions, and it's obvious you're set in your likes and dislikes regarding anything digital. I, and others I'm sure find myself in the unenviable position of carefully choosing pedals that suit my needs, are lightweight, portable, fit on a reasonably sized pedalboard (mini pedals, or multi-function pedals like the BOSS V-Wah) and provide the tones I'm chasing in my head all on a limited budget. I would love to be able to try, and buy vintage pedals or pedals built by the legends in the pedal world. Unfortunately that will never happen. Huge shout out to you mates!!! Really enjoy your show!!! Sincerely, your Hoosier Yank Pal from across the pond. Ruben

Awesome...just...awesome. I learn so much listening in my car. Studying tone masters on the mountain top...very Buddhist. Now I know where to put my wah. Two. Ok maybe more but who's counting lol. Main two: Gig fx Peter Frampton wah (with les) Voodoo Labs (I think)...the Wazoo (With Tele and Strat) Tone unlocked. Happy dance. Thanks Professors Mick and Dan, Brian from Detroit

First time I saw a wha on trumpet was not so long ago with Snarky Puppy... I was like "waou, such a great idea!". But I didn't know it was done before nor it was one of the origins of the wha! Thanks!

For your Fuzz/Wah episode (if you haven't filmed it already) you should check out the Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Fuzz-Wah (JH-1FW) from Dunlop. The side switches allow you to choose Wah--Fuzz or Fuzz--Wah. You can use just the way or just the fuzz and there are knobs on the side and bottom to control each. I don't think they sell them anymore, but I'm sure you guys could get your hands on one....or make one. Thanks again for the show. Great episode.

Great episode! I really enjoyed the hand wired VOX! I went from a Hotone Soulpress to a Fulltone Clyde to now using a Cry Baby Classic Wah Wah GCB95F and darn if your episode didn't have me wanting to go out and buy a new wah! I still have the Fulltone but really have no idea what to do with it....really shrill I adjusted everything I can and aside from having it modded I figure I should sell it?

I have that Boss wah, and it was really difficult to turn it off and on, it required so much force... I skimmed the rubber studs and now it's perfect. Along with the wah I use it for the univibe which I find quite good. I have it set up so that I can change between wah and univibe with the heel switch.

Now that I've watched the whole video, I can say that you can calibrate the pedal travel to your liking, and it looks like you are keeping the distortion modelling on, so no wonder it "adds something". Just twist the drive know all the way down.

Groovy and funky. Considering what a simple concept the wah pedal is - a sweeping frequency filter, it's amazing how deep the subject it can be. I like pedals that give you a few controls over Q and overall EQ, especially if they're mini. In future videos, it would be nice if you were able to borrow a few other wah pedals, especially those from smaller pedal makers.

i thought you guys had more subs. oh well this is still a lot. And that gig rig is one one of the coolest things ever. I am going to buy a G2 but I need to wait and save up a lot. This one looks really nice as well, a lot less space, you wouldn't even need 2 giant pedal boards, maybe save room and just buy one I enjoy knowing the basics about how the pedals works, too. It simple stuff after all how you explain it

Greetings, gentlemen. This is a great episode, but I was wondering if you could do an episode (or series?) dedicated to comparisons and some of the pros/cons of less expensive pedals. I"m asking because as a player on a budget, if I buy something new I do a ton of research. Videos like the ones you make are the next best thing to ordering the pedals I'm considering, trying them, and returning them if they don't work out. If you did some videos focused on less expensive pedals (like the Hellbabe for a wah solution), I think it could be very helpful. You always go into a lot of detail and put these pedals through their paces. Thanks for you time, Chris
