One of the most powerful movie scenes ever. Toni Collette and Haley Joel Osment put on an absolute master class performance here, and it brings me to tears every single time.

Toni Colette is underrated on an unimaginable scale. She was nominated for an Oscar for this, her first and ONLY Oscar nomination. And she should’ve won The way she gradually builds up that emotion, and the tears, until you hear “do I make her proud?”……. Uuugh, spine chilling

You know why this hits so hard? Because by that time we all love that mom and respect what she’s going through. We have an emotional connection to her - just masterful character development.

One of the most beautifully written and acted scenes I've ever watched. A child and a veteran actor in a car, no music, just speaking. And Toni Collette's sobbing was so real. I would love to ask her where she went emotionally to pull that out of herself. And how Haley Joel Osment so deeply got into her head and heart to help her go there. Such an incredible scene between the two of them. I was so happy that this movie won the awards it did. This was back when M. Night was at his absolute best.

To me this scene, even more so than the reveal, is what elevates this picture to one of the very best. Both performances were Oscar worthy imo.

Toni Collette's performance in this movie is one of the greatest I've ever seen in cinema. It's not a "showy" performance (which generally get Oscar awards) but what makes it outstanding is its sheer effortlessness. You forget that you're actually watching an Australian actress (with an Australian accent) performing. She embodies this character.

She got beat out by Angelina Jolie for her role in Girl, Interrupted. I've not seen that movie, so I don't know if it was a better performance.

What makes this scene so hard hitting in the feeling is when you have someone you loved passed away. I believe everyone has lost someone that we loved very much and always hope you have made em proud. This scene relates to the majority of people.

I saw this in theaters back in the day, and I got so wrapped up in Haley Joel's performance at the time that I didn't get to fully appreciate Toni's absolutely incredible turn. Years later she's the one, more than anyone else in the movie, who really makes me sit up and take notice.

The actress in this scene was unreal. Like she really asked her mom that. The look she gave when he said she saw you dance. To the struggle to tell Cole what she asked. Was really amazing.

This is how you make real drama. The emotion comes out of the characters and plot not just a trumped up effort to tug on your heartstrings. It also helps to get brilliant performances out of your actors. Easily the best scene I've seen in a film

The ending of the Green Mile and the ending of Schindler's List... both absolute powerhouses of emotion on a scale rarely encountered. Both with musical scores to drive the emotion...it's a very common and often overlooked tool use by the film maker and we all love it. I don't want to take anything away from those films... but watch this scene with Toni Collette again and you'll realise that there is no music at all, yet she shatters the scene to pierce your soul. THAT'S acting talent.

For those of us still among the living, especially those dealing with your own children who, quite frankly, can drive you up a wall sometimes - this is a powerful reminder that when your kids are wondering if you really love them, or even give a damn at all, especially if you've just had to punish them for something - the answer is two little words: Every day.

For me this is the peak of the movie, it is so strong - so well played. Breaks my heart every time. The ending is just a gasping moment, very good ending - but this is much more emotionally strong then the ending. After mom says Do I make her proud, they all start to cry. This is a powerfull scen, maybe the strongest I've seen. What a movie. Compare the movies Hollywood made and those who are made today. The only movie this year that really was a joy to watch was The Holdovers.

I learned from a early age (5) to not tell my mom or grandma about the beautiful woman named Jackie that visits me in my sleep, takes me to the park, to a sunken garden with tons of flowers and benches to sit. My mom took it all in good fun about this lady friend, till I told her she says she is my aunt Jackie. My moms eyes got huge in panic. My aunt Jackie died age 19 about 18 years before I was born. The next time we were at grandmas she drug out from a box packed away a picture, "thats her, my aunt Jackie" I said to them. My mom told me to go outside to play, sometime a little later when I came in, my mom and grandma were crying. My mom had told her what she pryed out from me, that Jackie visits them and sits with grandma while she drinks her coffee watching soap operas, grandma seems to know she is there at times. I learned to keep things to myself so not to see them cry anymore.

Great mashup. Clearly you put a lot of work into it. And this is one of my favorite film scenes of all time, so I've watched a few. But, the end effect for me is this was very busy. Too much information, too many comments walking on others. I think playing the video clip without stopping it is a good challenge, but stopping the clip in order to allow more time for individual reactions would take this to the boss level. Just my Two Scence. Thanks for the great mashup.
