Andy what might help for the future is (what I do in the field with this type of repair when I'm on my own) to put the chain joint and ends around the top of the sprockets then you dont have to lift the chain up, gravity works in your favor, and having both ends each around a sprocket means they don't really pull apart and makes it easy to get the master link in

Now you need to fix the broken weld on the sprocket above the one you fixed. 😀 It's got the same wobble now. The first bad sprocket probably broke the weld on that upper one.

Had a similar problem on my brother’s haybine this summer, one of the sprockets that drive the rollers started to spin in the hub, same fix as you did. CNH wanted $950.00 for a replacement.
