Campbell has made those kinds of calls many times, and usually they DON'T work out for him. This one worked. It won't work in the playoffs, and Lions fans will be crying for another 100 years. Everybody loves hiim because he's big and tall and acts tough and he used to play, but the sad reality is that he does not understand how to manage risk. He just takes the big risk every time without really thinking about it. I think he'll never be in the same league as the much smarter coaches.

I hope everyone understands that of the front 7 on defense, the Lions Entire starting defensive line was out last night, as well as 4/5 of their top LB. They were down to Jack Campbell as the remaining starter in their front 7. Even coming in, Alim McNeil was the only other starter who started... and then he got hurt, too. And the offense turned the ball over Twice inside their own 30. They beat a good team on a winning streak. How many teams could play like they are, missing almost their entire starting front 7?? Bart Scott had it right, Dan Campbell was a blocking TE in the NFL he understands the pressure the defensive front 7 has on a 4th and inches in the red zone. They are already playing on their heels because they’re afraid to jump offsides, where the O lineman aren’t afraid of a false start so they’re playing on their toes ready explode when the ball is snapped. I would trust Penei Sewell to make a block when we really need one and so does Dan Campbell. If you watch that play Sewell took 2 Packers out of the play clearing a hole for Monty.

Lions have also used 4th down to do a long count/timeout to catch teams offsides. What I did notice here was that this was the shortest 4th down count I've really noticed up to this game by the Lions. I think Dan was trying to catch them a little off guard, and i think he did. He's upgraded on his 4th down attempts/strategy. And he is the only coach in this League maybe next to Philadelphia able to implement such strategies effectively. Either way it was entertainment at its finest!

The analytics have to be understood in context. It’s based on historical success, but most teams aren’t running players off the street on defense in a dome where kicks are easier to make. Every DL starter from week 1 was out. Only one starting linebacker remains. The backups are even out. Expecting them not to make mistakes would be foolish. Alternatively, the offense has proven it can be successful when it needs to be and if they fail, the field position still wasn’t so good for GB that they lose for certain. It’s about winning versus hoping you don’t lose. They trusted themselves to do what winners do.

Look at the tape. Lions lined up with 3 TE instead of 3 WR, same play, tighter formation, and GB gave them the same look; except this time they motioned an extra blocker to the attack point to double the guy they missed on the previous play. Lions made an adjustment for 4th down and GB didn’t.

The stats on whether or not to go for it were only 3 points apart (83% win if kick now, 80% if go for it on 4th and 1). But the stats don't consider the 16 players on IR, most of which are on defense. This was the right call. 100% the right call.

The fact that Dan Campbell in that moment deciding to go for it on 4th was funny to me. He’s treating Jordan Love like he’s Mahomes with 43 sec😂. Andy Reid who is the best coach, plays conservative 85% of the time 15% aggressively when he has to. Dan Campbell’s recklessness is going to cost his team a big game. Last season it was the Cowboys game and the 49er game in the conference championship. The Lions played good enough in that game to win it.
