Rich, I am about to be 53 years old and I have been a Lions fan since I was in single digits. To explain how it feels to be a Lions fan, I have tears of joy, and tears of release from past trauma when I hear Dan Campbell talk, and you just did it to me too. The tears are so much sweeter due to the epic amount of pain and tribulation that we as fans have been through. There are a few fanbases that can relate, such as the Browns, who may be the only more abused fan base in the NFL. To put it into perspective, Browns fans had to watch this happen only after their HC went to New England to win multiple super bowls, and the rest of their front office went to Baltimore to win multiple super bowls. It's okay Browns fans, come along on this ride with us, you are our NFL brothers and sisters, we got you fam! As for MCDC you have to understand a few things about his aggressiveness. 1) This is something that MCDC feels out, he does not use analytics. 2) This was planned on all week, he let the players know at the beginning of the week that they would be going for it on 4th and short most of the time if not all of the time. 3) The players have talked about how this empowers them and inspires them. 4) The metrics are not accurate when you consider that the Lions have the best OL in the NFL and the Patrick Mahomes, the heir apparent GOAT lineman of the NFL, Pene Sewell. Think about it, how would the Bengals look with Sewell instead of Chase? I know that Aaron Donald is not getting to Burrows in that Super Bowl for one. People really do not understand how good Pene is. He legitimately has an argument to be the MVP and the best player in the NFL.

Especially because I personally felt like it was the most intuitive thing to go for it at the end if you consider all the circumstances. And like to be honest some of these people are showing their age a bit with this take because as an eagles fan, I know that the eagles have pretty much been in the playoffs every year for the past like 10 years and even won their first Super Bowl because they went for it so much. Many teams go for it more and more now. It’s the modern NFL. Offence wins games now, so if your team is good enough, keep the ball as long as you can.

No one is critical of the goal line decisions. They're rightfully critical of the other two. Dan Campbell is the reason why the Lions did not make the Super Bowl last year. And it WILL bite him again if he doesn't learn that playoffs are a different animal, and there is no "next week" to fix it.
@shepergames373411 күн бұрын
Everyone who blames campbell for being aggressive in the nfc championship last year are forgetting a whole lot of things. Badgely was our kicker and he wasnt relied on to hit anything more than 40 yards out all year and the kicks he passed up weren't gimmes. Gibbs had a brutal fumble. Reynolds had crucial drops as well. His decisions to go in those situations backfired in the end, but his decision to go for it all year is also what got us in the championship game in the first place.
@ThomasHampton-sr7dz11 күн бұрын
@@MattRowland LOL what a joke. Did Campbell drop those passes and interceptions? His 4th down play calling was great. He can't catch the balls himself. You clearly cant be a Lions fan because you definitely didn't watch all of the game. As far as last night's 4th downs the Lions have no defense and Campbell knew we couldn't stop GB in the second half, so line up and run the one yard for a win. The Lions have won several games because of going on 4th down, so i guess Dan Campbell must know football better than you.

How Dan Campbell hasn't gotten Coach of The Year yet, blows my mind. How he's changed this franchise is insane and unreal. Even when we had decent teams, we were still laughed at and considered the Siberia of the NFL. He did the impossible and made this team into something to be feared and respected. A feat that many have tried and failed, most of which failed miserably. Seriously, give the man his due, NFL!
@lagodifuoco31311 күн бұрын
Dan Campbell did not roll the dice. He made calculated risks. He knew his defense couldn't hold and they needed to stay aggressive on offense.
@arthurfonzarelli982811 күн бұрын
Exactly and it's just shocking to me that other teams haven't figured this out. His aggression is why they're so good. I hope people keep sucking guessing this cuz they are heads and tails out coaching teams

People are not considering how banged up the defense is; He went for it to take the pressure off a patchwork squad that hugely overperformed given the circumstances.
@dsugimoto31311 күн бұрын
@@rhinohelix197 Precisely. He had to keep the game with the offense. Green Bay is good enough to have moved the ball down the field with a depleted Lion defense.
@stevehernandez2010 күн бұрын
I Agee have to be aggressive there. All it takes is an under thrown ball resulting in a 35-40 yard penalty and you’re in business. Spot foul penalties like that put the game in the hands of the refs. I love that Dan has seen that happen and says no way, we are never leaving it to the refs.

Lions had called timeout already on the prior play. It would have been a delay of game penalty to call another (you can't call two timeouts in a row in the NFL). So if I'm Green Bay, I have to assume they're going to snap it, but Green Bay was looking for the hard count, and the Lions got 'em by snapping with 15 seconds on the play clock. They just weren't ready.

Campbell absolutely made the right call going for it on 4th down at the end of the game. The odds of Green Bay being able to march down and score with that much time left were too good for him to not try picking up a 4th and inches.
