Ann Miller made sure she always looked like a star, she was proud to have worked at MGM and to her dying day never appeared in public with being fully made up, hair done and wearing glamourous clothing. Ms. Miller projected such fantastic energy and verve and this came through in her performances, she always gave %110, an entertainer and star from head to toe. I will never tire of watching Ann Miller in anything.

According to Ann herself, it was she who asked for her release from her MGM contract. Evidently the glamour wore off eventually.

Cameron Wright - I understood exactly what you meant. The entertainer was lady Miller not RKO, MGM, or the et als., it always was her. She was a witty, classy lady and one of the best! Her talent was her own. I admire her because her resilience and the passion she gave on everything she did. Bravo!

the difference is that Ann Miller NEVER got an ego about herself. She made a career for herself in movies because she wanted it, not because she felt she deserved it or because a parent pushed her into it. The fact that she was incredibly beautiful and talented was also a plus.

Favorite moment? Fred just standing still while everybody does the time step. Second favorite moment? Gene offering to teach it to him afterwards.

Ann Miller seems to be the only one here that still has vigor. She looks great, she speaks with pep, her personality shines, she stands firmly in her beliefs and opinions, and she even gives that little time-step some gusto while the rest of these "dancers" barely pick up their feet. You can even hear her tapping in her regular dress shoes!

I agree, she was the best. I was amazed to find out that she was 60yrs old when she did the number on the love boat episode. She was wonderful, full of life and very humble gal. Rest well, lady Ann Miller.

Lady Ann Miller was, is and always will be my fav dancing gal, she was amazing in everything she did, and she wasn't a stuck up full of sand like the others. She was an awesome gal! Rest in peace, lady Ann Miller.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I was thrilled to see Debbie Reynolds, Fred Astaire and Jane Powell together. I adore them. And I agree with Ann Miller. There is no glamour around today. Although I don't really call Miss Miller's poofy hair and blue eyeshadow with the doe eyes glamorous!

Just realized that Janis Paige is still alive all these years later. Perhaps her "I like what's happening today", not-looking-back attitude has helped keep her going.

What a typically condescending crack from Kelly towards Ann: "yeaaah, let's hear it for Ann Miller". While he was a more accomplished all-around dancer, she could tap a hell of a lot better and faster than he could.

It's interesting to see the difference of opinion on which system was better. It seems that parts of the old system (having everything in-house and available) and parts of the new system (freedom to freelance and choose roles) were good and some not.

She is right about this glamour thing.. The way women dress today. The worst fashion crime today is most women wearing jeans and some wearing slacks. Give me the old days when women wore dresses and skirts..

Not sure why Donald O'Conner wasn't included in this interview -- unless he was still drinking at this stage. He can be seen in the background at 2:52 into this clip...

Ann Miller said she was supposed to be in Silk Stockings in the Janis Paige part but Arthur Freed didn't want two brunettes in the film (w/ Cyd Charisse).

Wow and today is 2021. That show had to of been in the 70s She must be rolling in her grave now. It has gotten even worse. I found it Interesting how she vied the studios. Sort of like the difference between the old pension plans and the moder 401k . Ann clearly couldn't adjust to the actors having to work without a studio. Sort of like working for Uber. I like ann and agree 100 percent. Yes time has to change but still. No glamor. I understand they don't really have a venue to showcase their work but no comparison with the Golden Era.

When the Mike Douglas Show ended it was sad that he never got the chance to say goodbye to his audience, John Davidson just showed up to replace him. It would be interesting to know which movie Fred got hit in the face with Ginger's beaded dress when they are discussing it at 5:50 the film is mentioned at 6:25 but I can't make out what is said. Hermes Pan did a great dancing scene with Betty Grable in the movie,Pin Up Girl." Thank You for posting this fantastic video !

The studio system is over thank God these people that you see on the Mike Douglas show wasn't making the kind of money that these stars of today are making you see these actors that are under contract to these major motion picture studios back then was getting paid on a weekly basis anywhere from 602 $800 a week sometimes a thousand dollars a week with metro-goldwyn-mayer they have a contract they tell you what to say what to do how to act and if they ever tell you who to marry well

I disagree....The 70s where especially sloppy plus sloppy....men and women looked nearly the same with their long hair and bell bottoms....since the 80s the sense of style is back, more comfortable of course then in the old days, not that of a rigid formality like women wearing gloves on the street etc. Today we have style just not that exaggerated as back then. Women entering a restaurant in pans? ..impossilbe till the end of the 60s.
