I have the added burden of living in Korea, where almost no words are similar (except for words for computer, truck, pineapple, guitar, etc.....basically, fairly common nouns). The verbs go at the end of sentences, and there's all manner of confusion in between. Not a language one can pick up casually.

People always say you need to live in the country where the language is spoken to be able to actually learn it. I have never been in an English speaking country yet I can speak the language. So, to all poor people out there, don't lose hope! You can do it!
@Ayaforshort7 жыл бұрын
Just a caution against duolingo, I think this is best after doing some kind of conversational or listening program like pimsluer. It can be really hard to recall words when trying to speak to someone because you really only memorize what the word looks like. Learn languages in the order a child does. Listening, then speaking, then reading, then writing. My experience with duolingo was with Dutch btw.

One of the thing I realized late was making sure your watching the right video’s because I’ve been trying to learn a language for many years now and have seen dozens of videos on how to learn the language and courses and I have only found 3 ones through out that time that have seriously impacted my language learning one of which has nothing to do with learning a language I have realized over time its not about the quantity but about the quality of the content your watching I think this might be one of the good ones

My native language is spanish, then as a teen i learned english by immersion talking in it, reading, writting & that definitely was the key to start speaking it.then when i was 20 yrs old italian became my third language it was easier for me to learn how to speak it since the similarities between both languages it's amazing besides i i had 2 italian friends to speak in it was much more easier, in the mid 1970s french came along &it was not that easier since french pronunciation is not phonetic it has taken me yrs to get better in it why? first time factor i have been very busy working for over the last 40 yrs i only had very limited time to immmersed my self in it a lady i met from morocco spoke nothing ,her native arabic & french so after a couple of months i met her she had to relocate to new yprk city & never heard from her no more so actually i learned it autodidactically self taught then 42 yrs later portuguese came along in my life the same i never met people that speak the language except sonoa from rip de janeiro, but then she got a better job offer & also left so i had no alternatives,to speak to my self in the mirror, the difference between french & portuguese is that portuguese is much more similar to my native tongue spanish &is also phonetic except with the pronunciation & grammatically spoken way of pronouncing a lot of words which are more nasal than other portuguese vocabulary it is a never ending process because ehen you gain confidence & language flows easily of out your mouth you'll be surprised as you read papers & magazines there are still hundreds of words that one still has to learn mastering a languages is a endless process as one though well i can speak fluenty no no,no i stillgot a long way to go!!! ,yes immersion living,in the country learning the history , soaking yourself in the desired language vis the only way to do it speaking in it definitely!!!

Nice rundown. One point of criticism: briskly walking while 'shadowing' is probably counterproductive. Psychologist Daniel Kahneman has pointed out that while a slow or moderate pace can facilitate some aspects of cognition, walking too quickly interferes.

Katie Burkman If it's a language partner you seek, you could try out the app called Hellotalk which connects you to people, who are learning your native language, and speak the language you are learning. Though I haven't heard of anyone's safety being at risk. I have heard of uncomfortable people on the app, but with a simple click they are reported and blocked. I hope it is of some use! :)

I think my biggest problems with learning a foreign language (I'm learning Italian and Spanish) is the masculinity and femininity of objects, as well as the fact that action words have different variations depending on who you're talking about (for example, he eats is lui mangia and I eat is io mangio)
@christinafidance3402 жыл бұрын
English does the verb changes too sometimes - we are simply used to it. I DANCE. You DANCE. He DANCES. They DANCE. I AM. You ARE. He IS. They ARE. It’s not always as dramatic of a change, but I always think about how difficult English must be for others to learn. It’s actually one of the hardest, I’ve heard and I can see why. For example, I took Spanish in high school and college and their letters almost always make the same sounds. But in English, the phonics is just insane! Vowels make different sounds in combination with one another or with the addition of an E at the end of the word. And then there’s all of the strange combinations like, PH, TH, SH, CH, KN, EIGH, etc and not to mention all the silent letters! Oh and let’s no forget all the darn homonyms - YOUR/YOU’RE, THERE/THEY’RE/THEIR, HEY/HAY, etc!
