Maybe not, but it was right for ESPN to fire him. His contract likely states to not say anything derogatory. He also would have been fired for saying something like "that's kinda homophobic" or just swearing in general. If you can't follow a simple contract, there's always a better commentator who can waiting for a big time job like this.
