Israelis developed the Galil from the Valmet AKs because their FALs didn't really work well in sandy conditions. I don't understand how one would argue that a Galil isn't an AK. Saying that is like saying that the Mini 14 isn't a Garand platform gun , or that an MP5 isn't a smaller G3.

I think the difference is in your examples you say platform gun or smaller. But in state galil is an Ak there is no adjective like that being used. I personally get why people say galils are aks especially the original however I don’t love the phrase because they are very different. Saying a galil is an ak variant or ak based gun make more sense than just saying it’s an Ak cause well it’s not doesn’t take ak furniture or many other things it’s not exactly an Ak.

We literally made the galil (original one) as a design as close as possible to the enemy's AK system, because at the time we used FAL rifles which are heavy, bulky and quite prone to jam up in even the slightest of sand. The original galil you can think of as an AK in 5.56 with a bottle opener cuz reasons. Love the galil, the ace is my favourite modern rifle and yes, I'm biased af cuz I'm Israeli.

Anyone with even limited knowledge of gun design can tell the AK is not an STG clone, the only thing in common between those two guns is the long stroke approach and even that has some small differences (and long stroke piston wasn't exclusive to the STG or new to the soviets). So yeah, don't waste my time, go get educated on the topic you're trying to air your opinion about and fuck off.

It is an AK, the Israelies made it clear when they were creating the original Galil that it was a varient of the AK. This ACE is simply a modernized version of that. The Galil was originally built as a Valmet clone, they payed the Finns for the blueprients and even the tooling. The Valmet is an slightly elongated AK (hammer for example is longer, BGC is shorter in some areas, etc) with a milled receiver and some improvements as a trade-off for some extra weight (and, especially back in the day, a good chunk of extra cost per rifle made, now CNC makes that a bit of a moot point).

I disagree. The SIG 550 is different enough from both the original AKM design as well as from all the modern AK74 designs as to not make it an AK variant. It’s design was for sure influenced by the AK but that doesn’t make it one. The whole upper and lower assembly and gas system are very clearly not like that of an AK. Calling the 550 an AK is like saying the SCAR is just an AR-18. The 553r was designed long after the 550 and there’re also AR variants chambered in 7.62x39 so I don’t see how that makes it an AK either.

I'm not saying that the Sig 55X are AK variants, but AK inspired platforms. They took the same long stroke gas operation, but improved everything else. Every complaint one would have with the AK is fixed by the Sig 55X. According to Rob Ski from AK Union, Sigs 55X series are AKs kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2Wxdptsgch7sMk

@@marcostadeo3577 The designers of the 550 have for sure taken some inspiration from the AK however the result is very clearly not an AK. Other than the bolt head the 550 has very little in common with an AK. Like at all. Yes, both guns are long stroke gas piston operated but so are a whole lot of other guns. The piston itself has a completely different design though. The recoil spring isn’t even at the same place and the adjustable gas port is nothing like that of an AK. The upper and lower aren’t even close to that of an AK and neither is the trigger mechanism. I don’t see how you could possibly call the 550 an AK variant when there are absolutely no other AKs, neither original designs nor more modern variants, that are anything like the 550.

@@nikolaswirz4022 incorrect the sig 550 series is 100% an AK and is simply a modernized AK. Yes the gas piston is of AK design, just because specs are different doesn't mean design is different. The design of the trunnion is nearly identical. The sig 552 (another AK) also shares the same recoil spring location. Just because the reciever is two piece doesn't mean it's not an AK either as the original AK-46 was a two piece as well. Just because you take a Romanian wasr and throw away everything but the barreled action and replace everything else from the butt plate to the top cover to the muzzle brake and everything in between doesn't make it not an AK

What I find funny is how half the time they would say the Galil or whatever isn't an AK, but then swear by that the Vz58 is when the internals are nothing alike. Not even the damn magazines are the same. Edit: As for my opinions on the Sig 550 series, I agree. It is not an AK, but definitely takes a good number of ideas from it. It's like what the MCX is to the AR-15... well, maybe the MCX is more AR-15 than the Sig 550 is an AK, but that's besides the point. The manual of arms are completely AR-15 as well as a lot of the initial disassembly and stuff (I mean, AR-15 lowers fit the uppers with a small conversion kit), but it runs on an AR-18 system with the recoil springs in the receiver and being a short-stroke piston gun.

I've always thought the Galil was an AK. Thanks for verifying my genius!

Frankly MAC I don't care whether a Galil is an AK or not. What is most disturbing is that baby Yoda has apparently gone over to the dark side of the force.

I would love to get a Ace Galil one of these days. But that definitive arms ak is sweet!

Love the Galil ace! The machining on the ace is very clean, I have multiple milled Arsenals and their machining never seems as clean as the IWI stuff.
