@@cjr1382 Yep, it's still a magnet. The red button she hit was to "quench" the magnet (basically there's helium involved and the button vents the helium). MRI magnets CAN be turned off in a slower way, but they take an hour or so to stabilize into non-magnetic so generally they're not turned off except for maintenance. Essentially the difference between clicking "shut down" in the windows start menu vs yanking the power cord out of the wall (or the battery out of the laptop).

Rapid speed industrial printers are a thing and they can print incredibly quickly compared to home machines
@LilyGrace952 ай бұрын
@@slowazzd2165 The fastest models can go at 700mm/hr. So assuming you already have the designs, that's... What, 10-15mins for a scalpel? 20-30mins for a clamp? So for a full set of tools? Yeah, an hour seems fair. And like I said, that's assuming the design already exists. If it doesn't, it'll take even longer than that.
@TillWownsend2 ай бұрын
That’s exactly what I was thinking despite my very minimal knowledge of how 3D printers work, surely waiting for over an hour isn’t really an option when this man has scissors in his neck?
@LilyGrace952 ай бұрын
@@TillWownsend My thoughts exactly. If the pattern already exists, I'm guessing that's 1½hrs minimum.
@MorganChaos2 ай бұрын
I was thinking that lol. People really think 3D printers are magic "make whatever" machines. Not to mention if you need any meaningful degree of definition, that takes longer than if you just need it rough. So maybe the clamp can be done in, optimistically, 10 minutes (one does assume a large city hospital has more than one printer or a decently-sized print area, so they can print the full set simultaneously), but the scalpel might just need to be resin printed and that's gonna take a solid hour, minimum (assuming you print it flat on its side, which idk if you could do and get a sharp enough edge). I'm not saying it's impossible to print a scalpel on regular thermal plastic filament, I'm just saying I've tried to get high definition out of filament printers and it is dicey at best. And I was trying to get something like a millimeter thick, as opposed to the less than a micrometer you need on a scalpel.

I’m reminded once again about an episode of the show Untold Stories of the ER. Two young women were rolled into the ER with a metal pole going through one woman’s chest, out of her back and through the leg of the other woman. Doctors looked at that wondering wtf. First responders are amazing. See, this was the result of a car crash- the metal pole of a fence went through a car, through the driver, the car seat, and then the back passengers leg. Paramedics, firefighters, rescue teams… they’re so dedicated to getting victims out of danger and to a hospital, that they’re capable of incredible things. They absolutely tore through that car and got those women to the hospital. Oh! Both survived, btw.

You definitely didn't rupture your carotid artery inside your throat. For one thing, it's like at least a couple inches away from your esophagus and windpipe. Most likely you ruptured a vein, which absolutely sucks but is carrying a LOT less blood than any artery, especially the carotid. The carotid pumps about a liter of blood per minute at rest and up to 3 liters if your heart rate is elevated for any reason (which this guy's DEFINITELY is). An adult man's body contains about five liters of blood, and you can lose about half your blood volume without dying. So optimistically he's got about 40 seconds if those scissors come out without a clamp.
