I have not seen the whole episode, but I’ve listened to him a lot, and I understand exactly where he’s coming from. The sacrifice of Jesus was necessary to reveal the heart of God, to win us back to trust, to conquer the selfish drive in Jesus’s humanness and become the new head of humanity for all who believe and receive his righteousness. What Tim said was a little bit tongue in cheek, but really, Jesus’s sacrifice was not to change the heart of God towards us, it was to change our heart toward him. “God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself.” not reconciling himself to the world.
