The most infuriatingly realistic part is that the bully walks away with barely a slap on the wrist for pushing the victim of his abuse to the point he felt there was no other way out. He wasn't sorry for what he did, just that he NEARLY got what was coming to him.

Man this episode alone truly showed me why Static Shock is such a underrated gem of a show as it truly wasn't afraid to handle such dark themes and relevent topics of discussion. Now more than ever should we open our eyes to how severely prevalent of an ongoing issue school shootings have become to the point that we just turn a blind eye to all or barely do anything about it without taking true responsibility or effort. Dereliction to prevent such tragedy is a price far too many are willing to pay for and as such more and more innocent lives are taken away because of negligence and lazy actions

I remembered when Shady made this video. A lot of discussion happened in the comments. I told my own experience when someone pulled a 🔪 on me. We both got in trouble for some reason, I got in school suspension and I don't even know what the other guy got. However, he was still allowed to have classes with me and finish his final. The schools don't do anything. Funny enough the school year before was much worse.

This episode REALLY hits home for me because I know from experience what it's like to be a victim of bullying. Granted, no one ever shoved ME into lockers (said lockers were far too narrow and short my size.) But everything else, heck to the yes! I had my personal space violated numerous times, bullies messed with my things and worst of all, I would end up getting into trouble for THEIR behavior. One such incident happened in 9th Grade, where a kid claimed I was making a handgun gesture at him (which I didn't.) I ended up getting five days Lunch Detention and two days of in-school suspension. Thankfully, my parents got involved and managed to get me out after only TWO days of the former (after my father gave my principal a verbal lashing.) I've been mocked, harassed, had my gym clothes stolen on one occasion, almost got pushed in front of an on-coming bus during another! With so much going on, I was close to going off the deep end just like Jimmy did. But instead, I found comfort in the people around me from family, friends and even a few teachers. Without their help, I'd be a much different person. Thank God America is being much harsher towards bullies in public schools these days...even though many politicians barely seem to care, preferring to call bully victims "potential threats"

I still remember hearing about my school district nearly having a shooting while I was still attending my high school. Kid has been to two of the three high schools in the district, got bullied at both. Supposedly when he was deciding where he intended to attack, he did so via coin flip. Thankfully, his grandmother made a report to the police before he could enact his plan, and they ended up finding not only firearms but also makeshift grenades when they searched his room. To my knowledge, the district hasn't had shootings or threats of shootings since, but I haven't checked. Don't know what happened to the kid after that, but I hope he got the help he needed.

A lot of people feel hateful and get to a breaking point. The Static Shock episode may have dumbed down the message, but I get that Jimmy would have felt that way. I know this is a dark subject to think about but imagine if we got a TV episode which was centred around a school shooting where a tormented kid brought a gun to school and actually shot his bully? But in a shocking twist, a student or possibly more actually come out and say, “I don’t care that the bully was shot! He/She was a horrible person and brought it on themselves!” Again, this would be a very dark concept. But it would show that the way some people can behave or treat others can cause drastic consequences.

What I took away from this, Venxous: The bully was absolutely wrong to treat Jimmy the way he did and should've gotten punished for it. But Jimmy was ALSO wrong because he STOLE HIS DAD'S GUN and SHOT Richie. Granted, it was by accident, but still! He recklessly handled something that was never his, and an innocent person, Richie, was SHOT in the process. Also, the bully DID NOT DESERVE what Jimmy would've done to him, which would have been *murder* if Jimmy was mad enough. This is why schools need to have a harder zero-tolerance for bullying and actually punish the students responsible, while also making an effort to comfort the victim or victims of said mistreatment. Mental health is no laughing matter and should be taken seriously, but revenge is *wrong*, and two wrongs don't make a right. PERIOD!

The problems with this is a 4 fold issue. Kids are not taught the value of life at all. Everyone is expendable to them nowadays, including themselves. Nothing is valuable, so kids now have absolutely no qualms enacting violence. It also doesn't help that everyone wants a quirky mental illness to excuse being a shit person since those are glorified and it makes it SO much harder for those that have ACTUAL problems to get help. I am an ADHD/Autistic hybrid, I managed to make it work out. I refuse to except that I was special enough to overcome that where no one else could. And bullies were never dealt with back then, and they're not being dealt with now. It's gotten even WORSE now than it was 20 years ago thanks to the moral decay of society. And that all stems back to the parents who STILL refuse to parent their kids. It's always someone else's fault, there's always some excuse. So the kids that don't want violence have to deal with kids way bigger and stronger than them, thus getting an equalizer. Start parenting your kids, quit glorifying mental illness (I'm not talking about not acknowledging it. But teach them to work with it, not use it as some excuse for bad behavior, or letting everyone suddenly develop some disorder of some kind.) Schools need to start dealing with bullies, before it escalates. Stop pushing idiots through to the next grade, start punishing/expelling kids that will not stop the violence.

ngl you sound a good bit ableist when taking about mental illness. Everyone's experience with mental illness is different. There are people that literally cannot function in normal society because of their condition. You cannot expect those people to just "overcome it." And no, I do not care that you have ADHD and Autism. You saying that is just deflecting. I am Autistic myself, high functioning at that, but I understand that I am blessed to be able to function well enough in normal society. Some people's experience with mental illness is absolutely crippling to their own and the lives of their loved ones. So do not assume others experience purely based off your own. This is also a problem of our healthcare systems being woefully underfunded and unsuitable for assisting those with mental illnesses. But that is a whole other discussion.

Honestly I think Virgil thinking the bullying was to blame maybe shows his personal bias in the situation as he doesn’t know Jimmy’s mental health records

You are legitimately blaming a victim for escalating out of desperation because he MIGHT have former mental health problems... Any SANE person can be pushed to the breaking point and do something stupid... Literally the idea "Fear not the man who has everything to gain, but the one with nothing to lose." You are LITERALLY the stock standard example of the school disciplinary system and WHY this shit keeps happening...

@@Videogeek95 I apologize for coming off as that. I was meaning like Virgil doesn’t know all of the non-school stuff Jimmy went through. So he only sees Nick as the main instigator to all of Jimmy’s pain when he may not know about other tragedies in Jimmy’s life

I feel 0 sympathy I dealt with attempts threats and some actual fights in school what needs to happen is we need to stop viewing all children as innocent angels and start treating them like the people they are and I defy you to find me one truly innocent person and I will take this claim back

The school shooting numbers are off. Let me ask you. Does a gun going off in a holster in the parking lot after hours count as a school shooting? It counts So does a police officer stopping an intruder.

It also counts if a student's hunting rifle accidentally goes off, regardless of there being no injuries.

In regards to guns in america and the toy gun point i think its perfectly normal. America was founded on guns and indiviual liberty. The ability for someone to protect themselves and whats theirs. With liberty comes risk. I always saw toy guns as getting kids use to guns isntead of havong them be cosntantly fearful and off put by their own culture and rights. Ironically I feel like the MORE that this culture of protection of ones self was embraced then the LESS these kind of tragedy's would happen.
