X Men Evolution's depiction of Nightcrawler is among my favourite next to the recent X Men 97 and the 90s cartoon. His sibling relationship with Rogue in the comics always stands out to me. Its a shame that most cartoons or the Fox films don't draw attention to it since its a big part of Kurt's character besides his faith in God.

Honestly great video my guy Nightcrawler has always been my favorite X-Men. His appearance to his powers but also his need for acceptance is great. His relationship with Kitty mirrors the comice, although Kitty was younger and scared of his appearance but they became closer. His relationship with Rogue started rocky but became more sibling like just like in the 90's show was good. Honestly his relationship with Mystique was great. He didn't know if he could ever truly trust or love his mother, but this show is the only one so far to show that she truly wanted Kurt in her life. Also his relationships with Logan and Wolverine were really done well. One aspect absent that I would come to know is that his religious side is missing. I'm not a religious person but I'm glad the 90's version has that side to him.
@davidbeer50152 ай бұрын
That missing element is something I noticed. I feel, even if they didn’t want to do a full episode like they did in TAS, a speaking shot where it can be seen he has like..a cross necklace or something could be enough to show it’s there without really changing anything? Other than that, this is probably one of my favorite versions of him. I like bits of him in ‘97, but there were some lines he had that had me going “I…don’t think that sounds right from a faith perspective?” But this Kurt hits sooooo many good notes.

@@mandalorianhunter1 I agree with you. I think what helps XME a lot in its characters and the way it portrays them is that it's the show which took the most liberties on them (ex The Scarlet Witch) and their relationships to one another (ex Rogue's crush on Scott, Nightcrawler's crush on Tabatha, ...) for the better. Like, take Mystique and Nightcrawler's relationship in XME since you mentioned it : The reason why it's the only X-Men show to present the idea that Mystique wanted Nightcrawler in her life is because, contrary to the other X-Men adaptations, it barely stuck to the comics as a source material for that plotline and made many things up. Most of the other adaptations are way closer to the comics because in them, especially at the time XME came out and even afterwards, Mystique couldn't care less about Nightcrawler, either in life or death. Her first X-Men story is DoFP and Nightcrawler is one of the first mutants to die because of her and the Brotherhood's assassination attempt on Senator Kelly. Mystique constantly and repetitively used her relationship to Nightcrawler and her knowledge of his origins against him, either to be let go with a slap on the wrist or to get his pity. Mystique in the comics canonically stated she never once regretted throwing Nightcrawler to his death to save her own skin when he was a newborn and was willing to train harder for a combat simulation against the X-Men so that, in the chance of fighting him, she'd kill him in cold blood to save Rogue. There's no hidden warmth to her in regards to him : She only holds those feelings to Rogue. The only versions of Mystique to care about Nightcrawler was in the Age of Apocalypse timeline and that's because she raised him from birth to be like her.

@@mandalorianhunter1 In the same vein as XME being the only X-Men show that portrays Nightcrawler's relationship with Mystique the way it does because it's drastically different from the comics, it is also the only adaptation that has Nightcrawler being in a romantic relationship with Amanda Sefton for that very same reason : The changes made to the characters in the transition from comics to TV helped them and the plot in ways the comics never could. Because here's the funny thing : Mystique was a character first introduced into the X-Men in 1980 while Nightcrawler was created in 1975 and their family relationship was revealed in 1991. That family relationship wasn't set in stone from the start and had evolved until the final product was put on paper 30 years ago which made sense and answered most questions, even if it stopped anything genuine from being built between Mystique and Nightcrawler. Yet Mystique being revealed as Nightcrawler's mother was still adapted in X-Men TAS contrary to anyone or anything else tied to his character. Meanwhile, Amanda Sefton was introduced into X-Men in the 70s not long after Nightcrawler was created and was his girlfriend since then. They were even a couple in Nightcrawler's 2014 solo run. So why wasn't she adapted before XME in X-Men TAS ? Or the movies ? Or after in Wolverine and the X-Men ? Because in the comics, Amanda Sefton is not only Nightcrawler's girlfriend, she's the same girl he was raised with since both were babies by the same woman they call "mother" and the same sibling they call "brother". In other words, Amanda Sefton is Nightcrawler's adoptive sister. This was revealed in 1980 and that never stopped them from still dating each other and using their weird family relationship in their flirts. XME adapted Amanda Sefton as Nightcrawler's girlfriend because it stuck to how her character was from the mid 70s to the 80s and never made the weird decision to have her and Nightcrawler be part of the same family. It's the wholesomeness without the questionable choices.

As other people have said Nightcrawler is fan favorite and mine as well. His design, powers, and overall his character make you so invested in him. Seeing him in X92 fighting off humans who won't accept him but found religion where it teaches to accept others no matter how different. Him trying to find out his family. Both Xmen series we see the answer to it and how he responds. Nightcrawler can be great if casted right in MCU and show us what he goes through. I'm hoping for an older Kurt so we can see him and Wanda possibly start a relationship. I loved the flirtation between the two in Wolverine and the Xmen. Good video man.

X-Men Evolution is, hands down, the perfect time capsule for many of the characters, especially Nightcrawler. Because I, sincerely, will never forgive Marvel Comics for what they did to his character especially during the Krakoa period (2019-2024). It's surreal how the teenage version of Nightcrawler from XME is somehow wiser, smarter and more mature than the adult one from Krakoa, who's in his mid 30s.
@davidbeer50152 ай бұрын
I’m…still admittedly perplexed around lWay of X” and the intent/result of it. I remember the summary mentioning him exploring his beliefs in light of the resurrections in Krakoa, and when I finished it I went “Huh? What…just happened?”
@spinningtornado45432 ай бұрын
@@davidbeer5015 I think I can answer you on this one but just bare with me because it pretty much boils down to this being *an editorial mess* . What happened was that WoX got cancelled before Inferno started from how low the sales were on that Nightcrawler run. To have that storyline end around the same time as Inferno and make it seem like Nightcrawler did something during Reign of X (after getting sidelined and doing absolutely nothing during all of Dawn of X), the writers threw in a long time X-Men enemy, Onslaught, as the big bad that required a fake "new" mini series (Onslaught: Revelations) to be defeated. To make it seem like WoX was a bigger deal than it was, they had Nightcrawler easily defeat Onslaught in that mini. Why did the writers have to have WoX happen and end right before Inferno ? Because Inferno was supposed to be the end of Krakoa and, like I just told you before, without WoX (and Onslaught: Revelations), Nightcrawler would have done *absolutely nothing* during all of Krakoa even though he was part of the main cast, part of the mutant government, ... The end of WoX through Onslaught : Revelations was the writer blatantly telling the readers what great things Nightcrawler did during Reign of X and how many amazing things he brought to the table for all mutants on Krakoa... *Which included him making his mutant religion and a police force for it* . This trend of "throwing in a well known character into Nightcrawler's Krakoa runs to increase the sales and make it last longer than it should" kept happening after Inferno to an absurd degree like... Legion of X had the Spirit of Vengeance (Ghost Rider) and Doctor Strange (faker) show up into the run for no reason. On top of that, the only reason that run went on for as long as it did (less than a year still) was because it took place around the same time as ALL of the events that kept dropping during Krakoa (AXE, Sins of Sinister). The last chapter of Krakoa literally had Nightcrawler go around dressed up as Spider-Man and avoid his responsibilities while Mutantkind was being hunted down in the streets, that's how low the sales got. *Nightcrawler required a mantle swap with Spider-Man to stay relevant* and, just like for WoX, make it seem like he did anything that mattered during a chapter of Krakoa since he was part of the main cast but was pretty much useless and a doormat.
