Degenerate was originally shizu's skill. He received it after consuming her body. That skill basically dissects, seperates and adds different skills to make new ones. For eg. Black Flame is one of Veldora's Storm Magic and an Extra Skill. Rimuru obtained it by combining the effects of Predator's Mimicry, Flame Transformation, and Flame Manipulation using the Synthesis of Degenerate.

3 things you gotta know. 1) A primordial demom is the oldest member of the demon race. They are the first to come into existense. 2) The red eyes and different tone that Rimuru had after evolving was the Great Sage (now called Raphael) in control of his body. The same thing happened when he was fighting the Orc Lord. 3) The 2 demoms that were sacrificed were converted into magicules in order to gain the energy needed to bring everyone back.

Technically the 3rd thing is incorrect. Raphael has a nearly endlessly supply of magicules via Veldora. The real reason why she made it seem like she didn't have enough was to trick Diablo into offering to demons so she could absorb them specifically. Reason being, demons are being of desire. Incarnations of desire if you will. Specifically the will to live was inherent in Veldora's energy.

My absolute favorite thing about Rimuru's evolution is the desperation of Great Sage to evolve as well. It really showed that it was no longer just a skill and had grown an actual identity and personality. It didn't want to be left behind and wanted to keep serving it's master and was happy to sacrifice to do that. I love it!

Okay first thing first. "Degenerate" and "Merciless" wasn't really sacrificed, both skills became kind of like a sub-skill(and I think the names changed, not sure) for the two ULTIMATE skills "Raphael" and "Beelzebub". Ultimate skill are the "MAX" skill one can have and it can only be countered by another Ultimate skill. Second, that Demon, He is called "NOIR" at this time, (I don't wanna say his name since he'll be given next episode) is called a PRIMORDIAL, literally means existence from the beginning, he is one of the Seven Primordial demons. He was summoned by Rimuru. He almost got summoned in season 1, but as he said the summoning was intercepted by his own kind. He is strong enough to be a Demon Lord or even a True Demon Lord himself but yes he just wants to serve strong individual(or maybe just Rimuru). Third, A "DEMON LORD" is pretty much just a title, anyone strong enough can be called/self-proclaim themself as one. A "TRUE DEMON LORD" is kind of a "STATUS" if you will or you can just say they are an "AWAKENED" Demon Lords. And True Demon Lords goes through the whole Harvest festival "Event". At this time(when you're watching), there are 10 Demon Lords but only 4 True Demon Lords(excluding Rimuru). LAST, the one that awakened was actually "Raphael" in control of Rimuru's body, Rimuru is still pretty much asleep and going through Harvest festival, since Raphael deemed it important to resurrect the dead as it is the point of that whole ordeal. Hooooo!, I hope I covered it all sorry if it was long.

Btw, some pretty damn important info- the subtitles say "sacrifice" every time a skill gets exchanged for an evolution, but that is inaccurate. Basically, a translation error. It's more like a process of combining skills, which satisfies the World System/Words of the World, allowing a new/upgraded skill to be accessed. I mainly point this out because it is plot holey af if you go forward thunking these skills are gone. In fact, at some future point of TenSura, if you believed that skills got "sacrificesd," once a specific event happened, you'd be screaming about "WTF?!?" I dont know how far the anime will go, but even now, if you really think about the process, it would be hella impossible for those skills to be gone.

Diablo knew Rimuru already as shown in Shizue's episode, and wanted to be summoned by Rimuru. In the Ramiris's dungeon (labyrinth) when Rimuru had to summon a demon for her, in exchange for destroying her magic soldier which was guarding her labyrinth, one of Diablo's bloodline demons answered the call first. Although he wanted to get summoned by Rimuru, he was late that time in answering the call, and regretted that. But this time around, he was able to answer Rimuru's demon summon. Although Diablo knew Rimuru through Shizue's time mask, and after that had been stalking him from the "void", Rimuru had no idea about who Noir (Diablo) is.

Clayman has the seed but not awakened as true demonlord because he didnt have atleast 10,000 souls yet. Rimuru has demonlord seed when he killed the orc lord and he only need the souls to awaken. In ttigraas you get more power when you kill anything with magicules, rimuru's absorption technique is just waaaay more efficient because it 100% sucks up enemy magicules and even analyze techniques to be used at his disposal. Correct me if im wrong but i think frey, carrion, and clayman aren't awakened as true demon lord, milim and the others(not spoiling) are ancient and stronger demonlords because they absorbed more than the required number of souls to awaken. Milim is considered one of the strongest btw

Demon lord is a title given to those acknowledged by the other demonlords. where as True demon lord is a Evolution (title) given to you by the voice of the world after you awaken (you need enough magicules and around 10K souls to awaken)

Just remember RED EYES = the Great Sage (wise one skill)/ Raphael takes over control of the body... same thing happened during the Orc Disaster fight, Wise One took over and Rimuru's eyes are RED...also harvesting those two demons doesn't not affect the souls of those being revived, as their souls are their souls, the demons were harvested to get enough magic energy / magicules to perform the revival magic (like convert matter to magic energy).... think of it like if you play a game as a wizard you need resource like mana to cast spells

To become a TRUE DEMON LORD, the individual in question need to have "the" seed & I mean "The Demon Lord Seed", it is one of the condition & the requirement for the individual in question to evolve into a True Demon Lord. Now, for the other individual who either was proclaimed by others or self-proclaim themselves as a demon lord for their intensely immense strength & power, which probably already have killed more than 5k or 10k people before, which probably have acquired "the" seed, but didn't met the condition & requirement of activation. Which is why I believe the demon lord such as Carrion, Frey & Clayman were never a True Demon Lord, because a True Demon Lord, would've evolve into a demon-something race.

You probably got told already but True Demon Lord and Demon Lord are two different things. Demon Lord is a title and True Demon Lord is an evolutional state. So not everyone with the title of Demon Lord is a True Demon Lord and is subsequently less powerful than a True Demon Lord. It's not a spoiler because the anime never tells you the distinction between the two, but just talks like it assumes you know they're different, so when you see other Demon Lords you end up confused by power comparisons. Also, it's considered not good to call yourself a Demon Lord without going through the right process to be instated as one since it's a very official title, but they don't explain that either.

Wise one is the great sage. The great sage itself asked words of the world to evolve. It failed billions of attempts. Then great sage gritted its teeth essentially and chose on its own to sacrifice degenerate (the ability he got from shizu) to try again.... it worked. Knowing it alone wasnt enough to do the revival, now raphael chose to sacrifice merciless to ensure gluttony evolved. Then raphael, without orders from rimuru, took over his body and began the ritual. Knowing rimuru wanted his friends back at anybcost, so chose to continue with self sacrifice. Demons though allowed the required energy needed to do it so it was accepted. And rimuru never met this demon yet, but its been watching rimuru since fight with ifrit.

The kind of sad/wholesome thing about great sage evolving as well is it seems/is implied great sage wanted to evolve so urgently because it knew it needed to for the resurrection to have any realistic chance of success (and it was very much correct) it tried over and over because it wanted to give rimurus wishes the best chance it could. Raphael knows all, the secret art that great sage didn’t as well as how to give it the best chances of success (evolving gluttony) not that I believe great sage knew it would evolve into Raphael, but I think that’s why it attempted it’s own evolution first out of any of the skills because whatever it would evolve into would have a better idea of what to do next with the other evolutions.

Rimuru made a demonic sacrifice with all the corpses from the soldiers he killed, around 10.000 of them. So considering the amount of bodies, its clear he summoned a very powerful demon, primordial demon, which I think in this world is the highest rank. Diablo fought Shizu, played with her a bit then later on saved her from the demons pretending to be royalty in the human kingdom. Of course Diablo, or Noir like he was called before naming, could sense he is connected with Shizu, not only from her mask but appearance and energy. Voice of the World Explanation Explanation for Voice of the World since the Anime never explained it (the first Time it was mentioned and explained about in the Light Novels, was around Volume 3, which they left out in Season 1) Its a Sort of mechanism or a system that governs the world, and when certain phenomenon occur - such as the acquisition of skills, racial evolution, the obtainment of a demon lord seed, and the activation of some skills - the World Language will echo within the consciousness of all related parties. Sometimes it is heard by a single individual while in other instances it is broadcast to a large group of individuals within the range of the source phenomenon. Important to remember for the Future, because Great Sage essentially copied the Voice of the Voice of the World when Rimuru reincarnated (was mentioned in the Light Novels, but sadly not mentioned in first Season) which is why Great Sage has the same Voice as VotW.

Good summaries. Rimiru had no idea who or what this unnamed(if you ladies remember the episode with Shizue, he said he was "called" Kuro, and Shizue called him Noir) demon is. During the episode with Shizue, that dying adventurer girl summoned Noir with the dead bodies on hand, which amounted to only a large battle, nowhere near around 20,000 corpses. With Rimiru using so many bodies to summon him, the demon got to show up in a far more resilient, powerful physical body. I am under the impression that Noir is HELLA stronger against Razen than against Shizue, because of this tribute. I never read this novel, so most of that is my hypothesis. I really wish the anime had been clearer with the whole summoning demons thing. Nothing about Ramaris's demon or why Rimiru now knows how to even summon demons, which he learned in the whole arc that got left out. :/

@@iamme141 I agree that it's dumb they never explain it. I did SORT OF pick up on it, but didn't understand it still. I had assumed that Rimiru basically went through stage 1 of 2. I know spoilers don't matter much now as they've gotten through it all, but i'll still avoid them for anyone else (though I can't imagine 'watching' a show via reaction videos with all the content they have to cut for legal reasons). There are things said later in the show that kind of clued me in on this, but I didn't realize that it was JUST a title in those cases. I had assumed that Rimiru's evolution in this episode was effectively stage 1 and that there was still potential for a stage 2 that would make him a "True" Demon Lord.

Primordials are the highest ranked of demons, the originals basically, to summon such a demon, sacrificing 10,000 souls got him to be summoned, if it was much lower, it'd be difficult, for example, last time around the time when shizu faced him, he was summoned but for a small of amount of time. But souls this much summoned this guy, you will find out more about the primordials in later episodes perhaps, in manga even more

Degenerate allows Rimuru to break skillas apart to recombine them to make new skills. Great Sage/Wise one wanted to upgrade even further to help Rimuru. Wise on kept requesting to evolve, till it gave up that skill. But Rimuru still has that skill, basically Wise One n Degenerates fused together to Create Ultimate Skill Raphael Lord of Wisdom. And then Raphael continued to upgrade Rimuru’s other skills. Most people at Rimuru’s level may not have any Ultimate skills. To our knowledge as of this episode, we know Rimuru has 2.

Rimuru didn't choose the demon. He was summoning any demon. But what they didn't show you, that when he tried to summon demons. This demon fought all the demon and didn't let them get summoned. If he didn't stop them Rimuru would have summoned more than 100 demon. But this demon decided him and the 2 others are enough.

There are Demon Lords and they can became even stronger by becaming a true demon lord but to become a True Demon Lord there are Req. you have to have a seed to become a true demon lord and rimuru had the seed when he absorb the orc desaster... so insted of becoming a Demon Lord he instantly evolve to a True Demon Lord

the OVAs show diablo a bit more too before he meets rimuru, OVA 1 and 2 are just fan service but 3, 4 and 5 are actual story

18:44 Home girl nailed it, as far as I know. Noir has seen that Rimiru bends this world in ways he'd never imagined, and will clearly shape the world going forward. What eternal being wouldn't want to see such a creature become a major power amongst mortals and such?!? 19:20 Girlie in the middle really nails some details in videos. I am surprised at how many reacters don't pick up on that info at all, when it is clearly said in the anime, just not defined.

One thing that always bummed me about this episode was that it's Raphael using Rimuru's body that caused the red eyes (hence Great Sage's voice and red eyes like when he let Great Sage fight Orc Disaster). I wish Rimuru actually got red eyes after the evolution so he would look more "demon-esque" and didn't just look the same (besides slightly taller)

Rimuru's demon slime race is classified as a race that belongs to a higher class of holy demon spirits.(上位聖魔霊) It also has resistance to the holy attribute, which was previously a weak attribute, and is durable enough to withstand disintegration, the most aggressive magic in the world where Rimuru lives, as long as it avoids a direct hit. As a side note, brother Veldora's race is classified as the highest-ranking holy demon spirit species.(最上位聖魔霊) Will Rimuru be able to reach that height as well?

Some clarification Rimiru and Diablo hasn't meet before this episode, but Diablo has known about Rimiru since the episode with Shizu and wanted to be summon by Rimiru to serve him. About Demon Lord, Demon Lord is a title that is given by the word of worlds when certain condition are meet but in the tensura world you can't call yourself a demon lord without the permission of the other demon lord's. Not all the the demon lord are true demon lord's , some of them are demon lord seeds case and point Clayman. Rimiru just became a true demon lord but he still needs the approval of the other Demon Lord to be able to call himself a demon lord.
