This is why i hope people like her genmates talk to her about how dangerous an addiction like smoking can be. Hopefully the Japanese who were brainwashed with the phrase "don't cause trouble" don't take it THAT seriously. We are supposed to talk to our friends, and help them. Not all trouble should be avoided.

TL Notes follow. But two things first: 1) There’s much more to this girl and her streams than her smoking and drinking habits, so let’s not define her solely by them or all the clips about them! I just clipped this because I thought the story was funny, and I specifically wanted to keep the parts where she tells people to be responsible. And 2) if you’re struggling with addiction or AUD and want to leave it behind, there are many avenues for treatment available - please seek a professional to discuss what may be the best choice for you. 0:13 - In Japanese Buddhist tradition/mythology, the Sanzu River is the crossing between life and death, sort of like the Greeks’ River Styx. 0:29 - The master of an izakaya is like the boss/bartender/owner/etc., so I use all of these interchangeably. 1:00 - Her explanation is pretty unhelpful if you didn’t know how much one gou (一合, 180 mL) of sake was, so I kept it that way. But it’s a typical serving of sake, and it's about how much liquid fits in a tokkuri or masu 3:26 - I’ve seen a lot of people asking about the なぁぜなぁぜ (naze naze) thing, so I’ll explain it here. It’s a meme format on Japanese TikTok where people describe little occurrences or inconveniences from daily life and ask “why, why” (naze naze) to express frustration or annoyance. I cut it out of the clip, but Raden comments that she’s started co-opting “naze naze” for a bunch of different things (like in this story)

Their statements refer to how people who hyperfocus on Raden's habitual smoking and alcohol consumption will eventually funnel her image into one of a girl who's only about social vices, and her investment in the arts as an afterthought. The same way you said that we shouldn't discount her tales of her vices, this also doesn't absolve clippers out there with their low-hanging fruit content of mainly her vices.

There was once I downed a bottle of Grey Goose vodka (200ml) while gaming. My big mistake was underestimating the strength of vodka drunk straight, and I found myself a bit of a mess, on the floor in my room having vomited onto my waxed-marble floor. I woke up some hours later past midnight, cleaning the mess I made and myself and heading to bed cursing at my foolhardiness. The morning came, I looked at where I laid on the floor. A puddle-like mark remains till this day where my acidic stomach contents were, eroded the floor wax, as a reminder of my careless behaviour with alcohol that night. Now I just enjoy 30mls of whiskey at a time, even when gaming, as a safe reminder to myself.

I think the owner had sized her up pretty well, and let her learn a lesson. Note that he threw away the hard liquor rather than mix his alcohol. That’s where things start to go wrong. Especially on vacation where there’s no barkeep, staff doesn’t really know you and won’t cut you off. My best effort was three and a half times the legal limit. Informed by medical staff the next morning…

I've never had a full blackout to the point where I wondered how I got home. I seem to hold out and get myself home every time. Drinking gets more difficult as you get older though. Even a year can make a huge difference. I'm glad she was safe and was able to go home. Her workplace probably took care of her. I like the fact the she asked not to pressure other people into drinking as well. Some people don't drink for preference and for health issues as well.

Jesus 1.8L of sake and more on top of that is a LOT of booze. I'm a seasoned alcoholic and that amount of booze would definitely get the best of me. I'm glad Raden got through that night and hopefully she remembers to slow it down. I've been there several times though. Wait, do people normally think they could have died if they just blackout and don't remember some parts afterwards? Isn't this like... really common? Especially in Japan with all the Shibuya meltdowns. Or was it just formulated this way because she saw a dream (?) of her grandparent? I can't tell.
@shizukuTL Жыл бұрын
No, it was the dream. And it's not just that she saw her dead grandfather, it's that she saw him at the Sanzu River (see the TL note) Sure, you probably aren't gonna die of alcohol poisoning from drinking sake over the course of a whole work shift, but 2+ L of sake plus some hard liquor atop that isn't necessarily an *insignificant* amount of alcohol either lol

No lie, my favorite girl of the bunch. She so reminds me of girls I've dated, worked with, was the boss for... for better and for worse. I'd bet money she works/worked in a kyaba, from the fact that her boss pretended to drink, but just dumped out the booze. That's what my ex did, as her job was to get guys to buy as many bottles for her as possible. But she was drinking champagne, not 1.8L bottles of sake. Real talk: no way you're actually dying from alcohol poisoning drinking 40 proof sake, folks, especially if you work in a bar and drink for a living. You'd more likely die from having your bladder explode. She just had a long day, drank tons, and passed out like normal people do. Thanks for the translation. I heard about this, but didn't go back digging for the source, and no one in the EN community's been willing to sub it, more than likely because they know Raden's been getting a lot of hate from super judgmental "fans."
