Wow, if that came to be, I have a feeling the US would appreciate high speed trains way more than they do right now. The Jet train looks really cool as well

Well yes and no. You still have to get around all the freight railroads who don want things going that fast and then where would the money come from

What an interesting locomotive! I heard that Via Rail at one point thought of a design similar to this for their Calgary-Edmonton Corridor line. But it fell through.

It was made sorta for via. Remember bombardier is a Canadian company.

I swear at one time there was a plan to put one of these jet train engines on one end of an Acela set so that it could provide service south of DC into Virginia.

Nice episode for Earth Day: focusing on a fossil fuel powered HST... Once again another example where poor track conditions curb any plans of high speed rail, as well as refusal to upgrade them. Even the NEC doesn't have the most perfect tracks, and both Germany and Sweden complained of horrible NEC track conditions when their trainsets were tested.

It's a real shame nobody ever ordered these because they would have filled an important role bringing HSR to more places for cheap including the Edmonton-Calgary corridor where it was tested briefly but never put into any sort of trial run with the public which sucks because I'd totally have loved a ride...

The Acela at 0:05 is one I saw today serving as 2167 to Washington DC with 2021 at the back and 2024 in the lead. On 2021 I heard everything shut down in Stamford but it started up again 2 minutes later when departing. I think that the Jet Train would have been great for many people. I think that some of the Jet Trains should have been used on routes with no electrification but had great and sturdy tracks so the Jet Train can hit high speeds like Acela. I wonder what the passenger cars would look like.
@nyrailfan2022 жыл бұрын
They looked just like the normal Acela cars in renderings. But they would’ve been mechanically different because the train wouldn’t of been semi permanently connected. But none were ever built so it’s somewhat unclear.

These vehicles will not succeed because diesel has too many letters in it and is too hard to spell. You can’t be good ol’ G A S gas

Diesels work just fine. They wanted to emphasize the turbine propulsion which are fuel thirsty, especially when the train is traveling at slow speeds. The inclusion of a secondary diesel engine was a good idea. But, there was no political will. NY State was subsidizing Amtrak’s Turboliner Empire Corridor service for years. Legal problems with the final upgrade to the units forced their premature retirement. The ‘Jettrain’ might have been a great solution.
