The Metro-North really needs to bring back the bar cars so everyone can make new friends and not be stressed out. Going to work and coming home. There’s too much hate going on. I hope someday Metro brings these bar cars back.

The metro North bar cars were the best. Would people make new friends and the ride was very enjoyable and people were always happy bar cars were the coolest thing to have on a commuter train line. Thank you so much for posting this video. It brought back a lot of good memories for me.

Those Bar cars were awesome. . People have a great time meeting each other while on their way to work. They served some great snacks and coffee during the morning. Great video.

I used to take them often. I'd get on at Yonkers Getty Square and get transfer to the Budd's at Croton to Poughkeepsie. Two things I recall is one, how warm they were on Winter rides and two, some were very slow! I watched the driver laugh about how he had it full throttle and it was barely going 40mph. Getting on in Poughkeepsie often had several style cars and diesels which was very neat. I was visiting my brother as lived in the Bronx. I ended up moving there to work for the State hospital and now am in Manhattan and Dutchess county-lucky me!

Amtrak is entering a new era and the Floridian had just entered service back in November 2024 from Chicago to Miami. The train numbers are 40 and 41 and those numbers were previously used on the Broadway Limited and Three Rivers both Chicago to New York bound trains

I often rode these from Croton to Poughkeepsie and back. I remember watching the driver laughing as he went full throttle and we hit a blistering 4o miles and hour! Eventually I guess momentum helped and we went faster. They were nice and warm however.

A little too much music. Too loud, and too much of it. It should cut out during narration, or at least fade much further into the background.

Once the connector is built, the Michigan Services, Floridian, Lake Shore Limited, & Cardinal should reroute there & follow the Illini/Saluki & 🌆🌁🌃🌉🌇🏢🏙️ of 🆕 Orleans to just where the ⬇️ Shore Line splits & then take those 🛤️ to get to Michigan, Miami, & ➡️ Cosst with the Michigan Services, Floridian, & Lake Shore Limited taking the mainline to where they’ll split for Michigan, Miami, & 🎭🗽🇺🇸/Boston with 🚉 in Hammond & Gary while the Cardinal takes the Westlake Corridor to Dyer before continuing to 🎭🗽🇺🇸 & the Lincoln Service (including the Missouri River Runner combo special) & Texas 🦅 should take the connector to the 🪨🏝️ District & take those 🛤️ (mainline & not the Beverly Branch) to Joliet with a 🚉 @ Tinley Park before continuing to STL, KC, & San Antonio/🎥🇺🇸

Wow, Penn Central ordered to buy the New Haven by the ICC in 1969. Also, the Pullman 4400 date from 1955. The original green New Haven MUs were from the 1920s. MTA M1s and M3s were named Metropolitans. CONNDOT/MTA M2, M4, & M6s were called Cosmopolitans.

One of these FL9s appeared in _Superman: The Movie_ as the train in Metropolis' Grand Central Station that hid the entrance to Lex Luthor's hideout and killed the cop Harry who was trying to follow Otis into it. Also, the B-A1A could also be a B-C wheel arrangement and therefore an American counterpart to the _Thomas_ character BoCo.

the problem with american rail is that it is a monopoly. US passenger rail started started declining because it was soooo regulated. the rail companies werent allowed to stop service on lines. and eventually accepted nationalization over having to eat a loss. this nationalization took all EXISTING passenger lines and stipulated a non-compete clause. ever wonder why none of the big 4/5 american rail companies have or even own a subsidiary that does passenger service even though they own ALL the track and would have the ability. its because amtrak literally DENIES them the ability to enter the market. i wont hate on amtrak as a whole, but their anti-competitive practices have greatly hampered american passenger rail for decades now. i think we remove the non-compete and allow anyone to sign trackage rights for passenger rail, amtrak or otherwise. its also why companies like brightline have to build wholly new track to get around amtraks monopoly grant.

My question is, for the NY state only lines (like Hudson and Harlem), why do they use both NY (blue striped car) and CT (red striped cars) cars if those trains don’t run through CT? Why not just all blue striped cars? For example, the New Haven line only uses the red M8s.

I always wondered why the rail lines didn't work on business plans to augment RDC service. It seemed like they just purchased the cars and then put them on various routes which had low ridership or use. And, to comply with actual or possible ICC actions against them. This would have been a great chance for the government and private rail lines to come together and create something to provide this type of service. RDC didn't replace well used routes but became, in reality, a modern version of the old interurban lines. Working together they could have provided funding and the rail lines expertise to run and maintain the service. The ICC was constantly put in the position of playing bad guy to the rail lines by demanding they provide service to lines that fit the category of RDC routes. Often, they did use RDC cars to provide the service and hoped the ICC would allow them to end the service ASAP. Had they worked together, maybe established a concern to run these services, it might have worked and maybe created a blueprint for future operations. There are so many places in the history of US commuter and passenger service where had some people actually tried to make it work you have to wonder why they never did anything.

I grew up on the Reading at Wayne Junction and waited for the RDC into PHL over those ancient Electrics they were running . and also lived a couple blocks from Budds Hunting Park complex, and a bunch of our neighbors worked there. Although im sure these were built at the Red Lion rd plant.
