@Ander0072originalv23 жыл бұрын
@Sam Lombardo I'll have to disagree. As a personal parallel, GameGrumps, but any sufficiently large channel/IP, there comes a point when there are enough "mindless" (for lack of a better term) fans, that they can produce content of any quality for a sufficiently long time. Provided James hasn't mismanaged his money, his existing funds and channel would likely last him as till his end. With respect to feedback, I find it a moot point. Feedback is for those who wish to improve, and the people who wish to improve are those with ambition. In my subjective opinion, James doesn't seem to have the same ambition as he once had. This isn't a moral wrong, but logically it dictates that the feedback would yield nothing even if it was presented. Thus, I don't believe those people would hurt James nor that those who do give feedback would help James since, all actions rest on a single thought: a single thought by James. A thought I don't believe he cares to have at this point in his life.
@ruko98763 жыл бұрын
Some of those bootlickers even went one further and say you cannot criticize James the "no time God" because he gives us free content. Oh, that means you also cannot criticize Irate Gamer, Doug Walker, Pat the NES Punk, Red Cow Entertainment here because they also gives us free content. Their logic makes absolutely no sense at all. Then they tout that people are jealous about James. What is there to be jealous about someone like James who backstabbed his best friends Bootsy and Kyle by refusing to compensate them properly for their contributions in Cinemassacre? There is no redeeming quality in looking up to a person like that, much less feeling jealousy or even respect.

I really appreciated your hour-long critique video. I literally subscribed to both of your Red Cow channels because you seem funny and interesting. I'm a fan of James/AVGN too, but I really was baffled at his crazy out-of-touch tech setup and his "response" to criticism/concern about his business. I am extremely tired of the "but he's a nice guy" response when people are trying to express genuine issues they see with his content. I particularly enjoyed learning you both were filmmakers/in the film industry. I've never heard anyone with that background give a genuine critique of James' process and Cinemassacre before. I'm convinced James, indeed, is one of those people that likes to keep things difficult, whether he realizes or not. He could easily just completely focus on AVGN and make very high-quality videos on that series. I bet he could even start a Patreon and get good financial support. He either isn't that good, is burned-out on the Nerd, or is ready to phone Cinemassacre in (maybe all 3). I don't hate him or anything. There are, literally, important things going on in the world right now. It's just nice to hear adults who've BEEN following James give authentic perspectives on what they think is going wrong with him and his company. I thought your video was good (I subbed), and I think you got some positive feedback on it as well too, right? It definitely stressed an important point, which is that Cinemassacre/ScreenWave DEFINITELY need a dedicated studio space to film AVGN episodes. That tiny weird setup in his basement is grossly insufficient for AVGN, it's pretty shocking that they have been using it as long as they have.
@benjaminsantiagosstuff3 жыл бұрын
yeah I don't know how far apart they are geographically but they could probably figure out a way to batch them in a studio. Also would be funny if they did something like...just make a printed laminate type deal that just looks like the nerd set but is actually flat. I think the screenwave dudes are still to delusional about their own media to take the time to think of how to substantively make the nerd videos better. Like Hack the Movies is quite bad; I know it's cool to be an aging fan of "nerd" media after watching Red Letter Media...but like...that guy has negative 47 interesting takes on any media he's consumed.
@underwaterlevelz19473 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminsantiagosstuff I agree, Hack the Movies is objectively bad content. RLM is the gold standard, they are astute lifelong students of film with a flair for balancing criticism and insights. As for Cinemassacre...If James can make it to the podcasts regularly for batch-filming, then he should probably do the same for AVGN. Justin should mandate it, his setup at home is just too rubbish.

He doesnt need tracking shots necessarily but just some different static angles such as the ones for classics such as Super Pitfall

His loyal fans put money out of their pocket to support him, a KZbinr who they’ve never met, and were responsible for him realizing his dream. As a thank you, he instead keeps pointing out how he’s too busy, has no time, uses his kids as a reason and “personal stuff” that he can’t say because it’s personal? This guy owes his fans and those who funded his shitty movie a lot more than that whether he feels like it or not because he keeps speaking like this whole AVGN is a hobby and all that - it’s not! This isn’t 2006, he’s capitalized a ton, taken donations from a ton, and now feels like he has no obligation to put out quality content, which is the further from the truth. He never takes any responsibility for anything, as it wasn’t him who plagiarized that script however he “has final say on every script”, I guess except that one… and he speaks about how the critics of his low effort videos must be the assholes. I'm a huge fan of James. He was the first KZbinr whose content I ever started following religiously, and I still find myself re-watching old episodes. I even enjoy some of his more recent content - although not nearly as much as the older stuff. I remember early controversies, like the Irate Gamer, the Cheetahmen, the AVGN movie crowdfunding, and early critics like the Archfiend, whose criticism wasn't always anywhere as near well-founded as yours. I thought your comments on James as a terribly inefficient filmmaker were just realistic, if his behind the scenes comments are how he actually works, and I think most of your criticism is perfectly valid. Yeah, fandoms can take their loyalty a bit far. The truth is most of the criticism cinemassacre gets nowadays comes from people who are actually fans of James, like yourself and many of the folks at CinemassacreTruth, but there are just as many if not more people in the fandom will not tolerate any criticism at all.

I dunno. Taking the piss out of old games is very different than making fun of people for being obese or awkward.

You have plenty of points but I feel like they are more in line with Gex X and his horrible set up is part of the charm. I feel like they have more of a space problem. They should just pull the trigger and rent space and build full sets.
@tola63273 жыл бұрын
James already has full sets available to him at screen waves headquarters, there is a duplicate of the nerd room there, James just didn't want to go there and uses Corona as an excuse.

Screwattack did a roast for James years ago and some fan didnt understand the concept. They went off on them for saying jokes not realizing that they were all friends just having fun.

Actually i follow james' channel since 2008. Yet i unsubscribed to his channel. I felt like an ex GF cheating on me and i just remember the good memories (Old content) Biggest james fan here, i make content but cannot show my face due to having a great job but James inspired me to make videos and criticize in what i am best and what i do for a living. James is a Great influence on all of us.

James is truly an embarrassing amateur these days. Like, my guts ache with embarrassment for him, his family and friends, even the house bought with AVGN money. It's all tainted by his ludicrously apathetic approach to his livelihood. I'd never hire him to make or do anything for me, ever. I'm almost certain it would never materialise. And if it did, it wouldn't be what i paid him for it. It'd be similar, but it'd have tripods duct taped to the ceiling.

You guys are probably right about his style being inefficient, but also... who cares? I'm not paying James to make me videos on a certain schedule. Anyone who is, feel free to lay into his work efficiency as much as you want. But it comes across a little elitist to criticize his methods just because it's not the most professional way, or the way you learned in film school or whatever lol.
