I hope you’ve enjoyed this video! What a disappointment Elton must have felt when he met his idol in bad shape. Elton’s mom said E wouldn’t be alive another 6 months. Turns out it was barely over a year...
Here’s one of my favorite songs of Elton’s: • Elton John - Daniel 1973

I worked at the Capital Centre. I saw Elton sitting in the stands during that show. Elton was to be there in concert the next night. I had a security guard hold my 4 year old son up when Elvis was handing out scarfs. Elvis came right over and gave him a scarf, told the guard to lift him higher and kissed him on top of the head. The arena photographer got a picture of this so I was lucky.

Because it didn’t have to end that way for Elvis. He naively trusted too many people who were only in his life to make money off him. Joe Esposito and that damn “Memphis Mafia”. Tom Parker. Countless “doctors” giving him every untested pill under the sun except for those he really needed. Elvis had no control of his own life and destiny. He was naive and soft. He really needed to fire everyone, check into a hospital, and really get into rehab. Ray Charles kicked heroin and lived clean and sober the last 30 years of his life with the help of real doctors. It can be done, even for huge stars.

Why can't you be an adult and understand that people can still love Elvis but have comments on his overall health? People like you ignoring it is what lead to his demise. If the people around him had had the nerve to stand up to him and say "Elvis, you're killing yourself" things may have been different.

@@Verdillac2 - not sure why you think it is ok to judge me. You know nothing about me. I saw Elvis in concert June 1, 1977 and other than being a bit overweight, he looked good and put on a great show, as he always did. Not sure why people have to try to dissect his life - why can’t we just enjoy the music he left behind? I wasn’t part of the inner circle so I have no idea what went on behind the gates, just cherish being an Elvis fan for most of my life.

In 1976 I was 5yrs old, and that's when my Dad took me with him to see Elvis on June, 26th in Providence Rhode Island! He was wearing that same "TwinBird" suit, but with the Bicentennial belt, and the White sleeves! That was one year to the day of his last concert ever in Indianapolis Indiana June, 26 1977! I not only remember it SO VIVIDLY....I still have our two ticket stubs, and all the pics my Dad took with his camera! Two biggest parts I can still close my eyes, and remember so well.....#1 When he hit the stage at the start, and my 5yr old brain just being TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY, just staring at him, and it looking like the 4th of July inside the Civic Center, with all the flashbulbs goin off!....#2 Him singing "Early Morning Rain" and literally making eye contact with me sittin on my Dad's shoulders!! I'll NEVER FORGET IT AS LONG AS I LIVE! 💯💯 RIP Dad! RIP Elvis!

An Elvis fan is an Elvis fan. Elvis worked so hard for his fans. It is very hard to do a public show when you don't feel well. He still went on and did his show for his fans. He was human like all.of us and as we age we develop medical issues. So did he!. But he never disappointed his fans. God bless him. No one is perfect. And we cannot expect him to be either. I am a true fan and loved him no matter what he looked like. A lot of entertainers could take a few lessons from him. He was so generous with a heart of Gold. He often paid people's hospital bills or help families who had tradegies....often anonymously ...not like these stars today who want publicity. A man with stellar talent, charisma, beautiful looks, wonderful sense of humour and a heart of Gold. Elvis you are loved all over the world forever and ever.💖

They asked him if he wanted to shorten that last show n he said " the show must go on for my Fans" His income was over a billion dollars n back then was unbelievable. He gave most of his money away to charities n people in need. Generous Man. Not many famous people will do that. I m sick of hearing about his RX addiction. Nah all those illnesses were brought on by his addictions. Nearly every single one. All the speed he took made him constipated. His glaucoma was a side effect of sleeping pills and valium type drugs. His hard core schedule in Vegas in 1970, he decided to meet those demands by taking prescriptions not knowing anything about side effects. His doctors were complete imbeciles to have kept prescribing him more and more drugs to treat drug side effects. Its a complete shame that he ended up the way he did.

First of all, thank you as always for another wonderful and informative video. No matter what people say about Elvis, I will always Love and Miss him even though I was only 10 when he passed but as I got in my teens that is where I became hooked on him. My sister was a HUGE fan and the day he Passed she screamed like a animal howling. She really did suffer from his death. Now I do the same. Elvis wasn't just suffering from drugs. That's all people want to claim he suffered from. He had many illnesses with one being really bad arthritis in his hands. I don't know if it was anywhere else other than his hands. It's a fact that Elton had no room to talk. He became worse than Elvis. I don't know how he is still here today in my opinion. At this time when he met Elvis, he was not only suffering from addiction but also Bulimia.

It is absolutely heartbreaking to see him in this condition. The weight was from his bad heart....arterial fibrillation. That is a very irregular beat..or rhythm. And usually that mean one or more chambers are not actually beating...they just flutter. Of course this leads to tremendous fluid retention. I myself have been hospitalized twice to have chest tubes inserted to drain the excess fluid. That is how serious this condition is. No one has said if Elvis had chest tubes inserted. It is evident to me...that the fluid retention was not treated. Imagine the fluid around the heart and lungs. That’s what happened to me. The medication to try to control the heartbeat..blood thinners...can give the impression that the patient is either drugged or drunk. Everyone knew Elvis was NOT a drinker....and knew he took meds...in high doses. What THEY...and that includes ALL of his inner circle...did not understand...was...that when he said...he needed the drugs...they thought it was just for an addiction. It was NOT. It was for him to be able to function. He was looking for pain relief...and a diagnosis ad to what was wrong with him. His doctor was also search for answers. The technology was not there. Today they have machines and tests to actually SEE these things. Today...he would be treated and live. People who have absolutely no knowledge...make mistaken assumptions. This has to be set right. Elvis deserves this...he deserves more loyalty and appreciation than he got. He was fighting a loosing battle with at least one disease that was killing him...and others that were making his life a misery. And HE STOOD ALONE... working to please his fans and support his army of employees. Elvis was a hero. Elvis will be deeply loved eternally. Rest easy beautiful man ♥️🇨🇦

If you loved Elvis the weight gain did not bother you as bad as the drugs everybody gains weight but the drugs will kill you. A true Elvis fan loved him anyway he struggled with his weight an the drugs long as he could. But these problems he had do not in my book define who he was he did so many great things in over 22yr period of his career the people he helped and people just give him the boot because he fell in a hole an didn't know how to get out! And that is a total shame! Yes maybe we should focus on the good their is no musician out there that hasn't did a drug or gained weight so drop it man.

At this time no rock star was bigger than Elton John, in terms of album and single sales around the world. He was the biggest selling artist on the planet. Elvis was one of his idols who was sadly in decline after his great successes in the 50's and 60's. Such a shame that his illnesses took him so early. He would of gone on performing for many years more.

I get so irritated that someone whos. A weirdo like Elton John try’s to say he tried to help Elvis it that he had a big conversation with Elvis about writing a song for him like he’s a big hero. As I’ve said before you can’t define Elvis by the last months of his life. And please get the book DESTINED to die young , read it. It was carefully studied about health issues. In Elvis life he had his mom and 3 uncles who died in their 40s. It was a family curse on a way.

Very fair assesment of the meeting and how Elvis was at this point of his life and career. Lisa was an Elton fan so that could be why theres a pic of her with him it's a shame there's no pic of Elton with Elvis. In September of 1976 Elvis performed what most fans consider his worst concert he was being treated by a different doctor and was pumping him with heavier drugs. Theres a CD called Houston We Have A Problem which shows how out of it Elvis was. After this concert the Colonel stepped in and got rid of the doctor and Doctor Nick was brought back. He also asked Elvis if he wanted to cut down on the concerts. That was probably the last time he showed any concern for his health. Elvis got it back for several shows.

Elton still had great respect for Elvis, was not out of to denigrate him, he was just concerned for me him at time, and Elvis may have had a bad day where he was no to well. Not just pills but physical exhaustion, maybe depression. I'm glad to his meeting helped Elton clean up his act, Elton was not a hypocrite, did not judge Elvis as he was into drugs himself, but this meeting woke him up. And made it him realize Elvis,s humaness, effects of drugs can overcome anybody, no matter their statue, I think Elton thanked Elvis in his heart for waking him up to but sad for Elvis, a brilliant talent, whom Elton has high regard and respect for even today.

Still here? Not extremely likely. It's hard to imagine sometimes, but Elvis would by now be an 85 year old. Not impossible, but even if he had completely cleaned up and ended his addiction, there'd still have been his family genetics as a factor. Longevity past age 70 wasn't very common in his family, and even less so for the males. Then there's also the residual damage left by drugs. Sure, there's a chance he could have been extra lucky like guys like Jerry Lee Lewis, Keith Richards, etc. in spite of the hard living. But the chances just aren't that good. I tend to think the best you could hope for Elvis might've been a similar outcome to Kenny Rogers, who we just lost.... Perhaps well enough to perform into his 70s, but with a steep decline as DNA and past issues caught up with him.

People say the weight was due to his heart condition. But he was eating fried peanut butter , bacon sandwiches everyday and taking prescription meds. He once ate meatloaf and mashed potatoes for 6 months straight for dinner. No matter how rich, beautiful, and famous he or anybody else gets, we are a product of our environment. His parents both died of heart attacks. He only learned how to eat and take care of himself from them. And they their parents. And so forth. Yes, drugs played a major role.but so did food. And people wanna say he wasn’t abusing drugs because they were prescribed. No, he was abusing drugs, he just didn’t know he was. He probably thought he was doing good taking his pills. It’s sad. He was beautiful either way. And I truly get how so many love & adore him. Even after his death. But he was human, guys…. Human.

I`m really fed up with the term "drug addiction" where Elvis is concerned. Elvis was a sick man and the doctors didn`t know how to help him. So, he tried to help himself with the prescriptions he could get. He had health issues since childhood and the older he got, the more pain killers he needed. Nowadays, with his financial standard, they probably could have helped him better but he would have died young anyway. He inherited his problems from his mother`s side and many of her relatives also died young, just like her. It`s so sad that people were and are judging him as a drug addict. When in fact, saying how bad he looked and even mocking him because of that, is like mocking a cancer patient. Elton John`s addiction has nothing in common with Elvis` drug addiction. I respect Elton and I`m glad that he (with Elvis` indirect help) got clean. I can imagine and understand that he was shocked by Elvis` appearance. But Elvis was a sick man and this fact has been overlooked for 50 yrs by most of the people, even his friends and fans. That`s why he felt so lonely and had to fight depression. Those were different times but nowadays I would expect less ignorance from people.

I'm afraid you're in denial, he was in rehab at least twice undercover, he was a drug addict. His health issues were from his addiction, its a miracle he lived so long, his heart must have been extremely strong. He wasn't an ill man he was an addict. Research it. All his health issues were self inflicted, there was no difference between him and Elton John, Elton John could see it, he recognised the signs and symptoms. Elvis Presley was his own worst enemy, His mother drank herself to death, nothing to do with inherited health problems, she couldn't cope with him being away from her all the time, so she drank, sclerosis of the liver. All the inherited health and genetic problems have been discredited, he had glaucoma in one eye but not serious, he needed glasses like millions of others including me, you don't need painkillers for that. His last years he was mainly out of it, very well documented, not pain relief, huge amounts of uppers downers and anything he could get his hands on, if not prescription they would have been illegal including morphine, which of course is heroin. His heart finally gave out because of drug abuse, nothing else. Oh and his friends and family finally gave up after trying for years to stop him and being told to mind their own business. I'm not an Elvis hater, completely the opposite, just a fan who would have done anything to help him. You can't help an addict, the only one who can is the addict themselves.....

It broke my heart to see Elvis so overweight and obviously in very poor health. I wish someone could have stepped in and gotten control of his drug use and health problems. Everyone loved him so much. He was such a kind and generous man. Gone way too soon.

Well, Elton Jon's hair transplant and or toupee and his puffy pudgy look happened at 40 as well. He is healthy though unlike Elvis who had a twisted colon which is very painful and caused bloating. I know because I too have severe bowel disorder and the meds I must take cause water retention. They couldn't make money off of a man getting colon surgeries and the time required to recuperate. Instead they prescribed pain meds, uppers and downers to keep him in business. Yes he "needed" them. The problem is progressive when left untreated. As I said, the pain and discomfort from bowel issues is very real and debilitating I am amazed at what he did under these circumstances.

Elton might be overweight now but he wasn't "puffy & pudgy" at 40.

@@nonnamadonnaYa, but Elton's always been ugly as sin and when I Googled his pics at age 40, knowing he doesn't have an impacted colon or hereditary heart disease like Elvis did, EJ looks like a puffy clown. I must say however he is extremely talented and has far more grace than you do. Sad you're so superficial.

@@UnCustomMary_Luke10 Elton has a pacemaker & has had prostate surgery but that hasn't slowed him down. Furthermore, your comment about Elton's looks is far more than ugly than anything to do with Elton. It's very superficial of you to comment about someone's looks.

I am glad he was able to make it to 52 before his pacemaker and that his mom lived to over 90. Prostrate surgery at 72, good for him. Elvis mother died at 46, Elvis died at 42. My husbands mother died at 46, he died at 56. My mother lived to 91, I am currently 68. Genetics matter. I never found Elton John attractive, if you do bravo to you. I am not engaging any further with ignorant people who insult others like apples and oranges. The original insult towards a dead man was mean and uncalled for, but you ignore that. I look at all the factors not just leftist emotions.

@@UnCustomMary_Luke10 You're the one who's handing out insults, not me. I haven't posted any mean comments. Saying Elton's "always been ugly as sin" & "Elton John's hair transplant and or toupee and his puffy pudgy look happened at 40 as well" & "EJ looks like a puffy clown" are disgusting comments.

He lost a lot of weight in the fall of 1976 & was wearing jumpsuits he wore back in 1974. Sadly, when he went back on tour in February 1977, he was obese. Google pictures of his show from Hollywood, Fl on February 12, 1977 & it’s a drastic difference from just a few months before.

It happened pretty fast for Elvis (the weight). So I don’t think the fans caught on that he had problems. The pills weren’t that noticeable until 1975.

That’s what I mean when I say Elvis was screwed. He had heart disease. The medication for that condition causes extreme fluid retention, and-depending upon the dosage, causes the person to exhibit behaviour that appears like intoxication. I’n my opinion, Elvis’s mother also had this problem. It is known that Gladys had heart trouble. People have said she was an alcoholic, yet one of Elvis’s previous girlfriends has said that she never saw any indication of that, never smelled alcohol on her. Elvis never had trouble with his band.♥️🌹🇨🇦💋

I wonder why Elton referred only to the way our Elvis looked and nothing about his voice and the tender way he treated his fans ♥️👑⚡

I don’t know if Elvis’s appearance was a thing for Elvis fans, but I remember my dad, who was not a fan in particular mention how Elvis had become bloated and was on drugs when I first asked him who Elvis was. This was a year or 2 before he died.
