That's only amongst the casual players though. The theorycrafting community consensus is that he's still incredibly mediocre. Basically theyre saying, if youre struggling to beat the timers in the abyss, Zhong li will NOT help you. Putting him in a team reduces your overall DPS (yes even if it allows you to hit more). If youre a whale and you dont mind doing less DPS, ZL just makes the game more comfortable to play. Hes not broken. Hes just training wheels.

Geo shields didn't get any bonus DMG reduction against non geo attacks, his shield was legit paper and you lost DPS just casting it. Barbara could at least use Thrilling tales to give you some atk buff. He generated 0 energy at C0 because you could never get to his pillar without wasting even more time to do both E and hold E in one rotation. There wasn't any interrupt resist on the hold E so you just got yeeted out of the animation if you ever had your shield broken and had to recast in combat. Release Zhongli is maybe worse then Dehya.

Zhongli was my first 5* (AR 35). It's been 2 years and I never removed him from my team.
