This woman screams "I have no unique aspect intrinsic to my character, so I'm going to latch onto this ideology and use it to make myself as important and worthy of attention as the people who have actual struggles in life," Like the lgbt bs is literally "Yeah I know queer teens and young adults can be abused. made homeless, or even murdered, and that adults being open about their identities normalizes queerness and makes society safer for those at risk teens- but I think eating animals is bad so I'm more important" instead of idk, making the valid comparison that smaller personal actions (being our/ refraining from animal products) can be small but profound ways to impact a larger system that seems out of our control. But then again, that would imply her being part of the whole and not the sole arbiter of judgment of people in marginalized communities.

I chose to be a vegetarian and am proud of it. I did NOT choose to have cancer and become disabled. It hurts more to be attacked over something that was completely out of my control than something I am actually extremely proud of. As a side note, I am proud of being a cancer survivor, but being called a cripple with nasty connotations inferred makes me feel insignificant. There is a huge difference and her pretending it's about her diet is scapegoating.

I have a few thoughts to share on these highlights as a vegan myself, since it's not just about racism, but speciesism, too. Firstly, it seems TVT might not be racist philosophically - that is, she does not believe it is justified - while missing the mark on the impacts of her behaviour psychologically. Her writing the N-word and saying she wants to reclaim it for example demonstrates the philosophy of her belief as not wanting to discriminate, without seeing that psychologically, given power dynamics and historical context, she is still offensive and is not coming off the way she wants to. In my opinion, she is not philosophically racist, but she does not see that her behaviour is because of psychological factors, and that she should stop doubling down and recognize it. Secondly, when it comes to comparisons of the Jewish Holocaust with animal agriculture, again, I believe there is a massive psychological barrier here. This does align with the first point of her being racist. Perhaps it simply isn't her (or any non-Jewish) person's place to make that kind of comparison for similar reasons to reclaiming the N-word. Fair enough. Maybe the comparison is also distasteful because of the comparison of human and non-human animals being dehumanizing. I do believe that speciesism is grossly under discussed, and that is part of why that comparison comes off immediately as grossly anti-Semitic. Alex Hershaft is one example of an animal rights advocate who not only makes direct comparisons to the Jewish Holocaust and animal agriculture, but survived the Jewish Holocaust himself. Isaac Bashevis Singer is another example of a Jew who made direct comparisons in his novel writing, having narrowly avoided Nazi Germany's reign. Gary Yourovsky is an Israeli-American former animal rights activist who, too, has made direct comparisons, and had a huge impact on Israel's vegan population. Lifting Vegan Logic (LVL) is another animal rights activist who is comfortable making comparisons as a Jew himself and has outright said that it's unreasonable to not use an accurate term to describe what's happening (explained below). Perhaps it is only their place to make comparisons. Importantly, if speciesism is not in the discussion, then this controversial comparison will always be seen at the least as dehumanizing. Until then, sure - I totally understand how controversial it is to compare animal ag to The Holocaust. She also calls what the animals are going through a holocaust, without comparing it to the Jewish Holocaust - I get why that's really controversial even on its own and may come off as anti-Semitic. Once again, if speciesism is not discussed, then of course it would come off that way. The word "holocaust" does have its own meaning separate from what could be called "The Holocaust," which is the Jewish Holocaust, that is defined as slaughter or destruction on a mass scale. The slaughter of animals on a mass scale has been dubbed within the animal rights space as the Animal Holocaust for this reason. In my opinion I believe it is speciesist to suggest that only humans can be victims of a holocaust according to this definition (which I haven't made up, it's a dictionary definition). That said, I understand that the use of that language could be offensive even with this meaning in mind, this is just a bit of context for why animal ag is sometimes described as that, even separate from the direct comparisons to the Jewish Holocaust (I say sometimes because it turns out the vegan community isn't a hive mind and we have different opinions on various vegan-related issues, including the use of this language). Also about the homophobic point: pretty sure she said she's bisexual, so she is LGBTQ. I don't know enough about her takes on LGBTQ rights to know if she's bigoted anyway. That said, I think that context gives the "coming out" video a bit more nuance, while still being controversial, since she would have a bit of experience with it (of course coming out as bi would not be exactly the same as coming out as gay). TL,DR: I hope TVT realizes how her behaviour is racist even if her beliefs may not be, and additionally a lot of context needs to be given for the controversial language used and comparisons made when talking about veganism. Side point: I understand you're not vegan, but I hope you are at least a vegan ally.

I've read this And don't wanna miss any points Just wanna say that I am def a vegan ally Two of my four best friends are vegan And just like anything else They're good people And they happen to be vegan I think the main thing here is When is accidental racism racism And I've had this talk so much But for the sake of being brief I'm going to keep it really simple As adults I expect us to be able to hold each other accountable And I don't think having said something racist or even a slur would make you racist But doubling down on it Especially as a white person When told it's racist And not even considering the time to learn why Is racist Especially when your whole ideology is These people aren't vegan because they don't have the information needed to feel guilty enough to be vegan so I'm going to ram information down their throats And you just refuse to take information from others about issues that you're adopting but don't apply to you My issue with the holocaust comparison Is really that she shouldn't be the person doing that If a holocaust survivor Or the multiple you mentioned are using it as an example 100% that's their right That's their experience, their people, and their right And all she has to do is cite them and say these people Who are the right people to do so Are comparing these instances to the holocaust and here's why I think that's the right way to do that Instead of just antagonizing everyone for the sake of victimizing yourself between mentions of your tik tok follower count Most of my twitch chat is gay And they all took an issue with what she said I explained what she was trying to say But neither really should've been said And regardless of her inclusion of that community She can still antagonize them In the same way the people in the vegan group were saying that she was just giving others more crazy vegan stereotypes Thank you for taking the time to write all that out

@@Maximmmino I'm glad you're a vegan ally. I 100% agree that as adults we should hold each other accountable, admittedly it generated a bit of dissonance in me to reconcile how she constantly tries to spread a message of justice and kindness to animals but doubles down when her behaviour towards humans are called out as harmful, let alone blatantly racist. I realize it may have seemed like I was excusing her behaviour by trying to distinguish between the philosophy and psychology behind what she was doing; my bad if it was excusing her, that was my way of processing the dissonance her behaviour generated in me, lol. It's still racist. I also see the point of her being somewhat hypocritical (if that's what you're getting at) when her approach to activism being very much bombard-you-with-information-you-couldn't-have-known-before in an effort to compel you to be vegan, and simultaneously she can't accept information on issues that as you say aren't relevant to her, that would lead to her changing her behaviour. As for the Holocaust comparison she makes (and others do too), I understand your perspective and agree for the sake of having productive conversations that referencing those with unique perspectives is a simple solution to demonstrate sensitivity to the matter. And yes, TVT deflecting to her TikTok follower count and antagonizing everyone on other random things is stupid. Yeah, with the LGBT thing I see how that video was unnecessary antagonism of coming out as vegan vs gay. On another note, personally I don't care for what she refers to as being veganphobic but "Carnist" and "Vystopia" are good, the latter of which I don't think she mentioned in these clips but she did occasionally reference Carnists (referring to adherents to Carnism). Thanks for your very thoughtful response.
