I like to replace my leash, maybe every couple of seasons, depending on how much surf ing there is in your location, at any rate, it’s good to replace the leash after a while, especially after some hard pulls. Oh I never use a competition leash in any kind of strong or bigger Surf. Those will definitely stretch and pop. Another good tip when it comes to maintaining your leash I like to keep the Velcro closed when I’m done and never leave it stored open around any beach towel or any kind of fiber or fabric that the Velcro would pick up. It would weaken its ability to stay closed, especially on a big cleanup set or in bigger surf

Have a nice swim. I surfed many years before the leash. Swimming for your board was part of it. We had a nice sand beach that wouldn't destroy your board .I still can't believe the trust some people put in the leash.

@timwannell6477 yeah but they break. Use only when you have to. I'm sure they are much more reliable than the early days. Stay safe and have fun.

Es un buen punto, nunca sabes cual es la ola que la partirá, mejor estar seguro en el agua.

Whenever I get separated form my board I bend my leg and when it pulls my leash I straighten my leg out to take some of the impact off the leash. I never know if this prevents my leash from snapping since it does not but it can't hurt.

Makes me even more glad to be a bodyboarder, I have surfed many many times, and duckdiving with a surfboard vs bodyboard is night and day. I wouldn't have to sweat this wave at all, easy duckdive with my knees shoving the board forward and pulling me out the back. Everything about surfing is so much harder, so much work. I'm lucky to grow up in so-cal at the Wedge and San Clemente or Salt Creek beach breaks.

It's not "almost always better to hang onto your board" you hang on for the wrong wave and youre gonna get messed up.

Good vid. It doesn’t matter if you duckdive or not on a largish wave. You may as well duck dive. Hard to convince people of this but true

as a beginner in the world of surfing, how can you manage to go back on shore with out your board? Imagine there’s a huge series coming, I cant think of anything but keep floating till the waves calm down.
@rikkic142813 күн бұрын
If you can't swim to the beach from out back don't go surfing.
@Adu0090913 күн бұрын
First you never bail your board, always duck dive. If surfing powerful waves, select a solid leash not a cheap one, and change it often (once or twice a year depending). That way you will probably not be in this situation.

okay buddy. I was asking for situations with huge waves, which im not planning of messing with, but just to have the information with me. Guess you gotta be michael phelps to go out and have fun surfing, or maybe you have never seen a big wave and dont know the hell youre talking about.
@davidcoleman621112 күн бұрын
@josepopopo98 easy now. Dive for the bottom and avoid most of the turbulence. Repeat as necessary until you are in. Except to get tumbled its part of surfing. Except to get sarcastic responses; its part of the comment section.

The surfboard is the only flotation device that you have. Hold on tight and you get back to the surface sooner.

The waves in Bali are incredibly powerful and yet most guys use tiny little leashes which snap easily. As a Northern Californian who surfs big waves, I always use Stay Covered leashes. When I go to Bali I bring two of them just in case. These leashes are built for max power.

Don't ever bail your board when there are surfers right behind you. Especially in 6' of white water that you could easily duck dive if you had any business surfing Uluwatu in the 1st place. Kook
