Congrats Rod. Beautiful fish. I went on Superior Lake in Ontario last week. We caught 9 king salmons, one was 33lbs. We then caught a trout. What a great experience 🐠

the biggest spring i've caught was 22. they are freight trains. i can't even get my head around catching a tyee or bigger. a solo rower/fisher caught a 43 pounder in the Tyee pool a couple weeks ago. imagine that.

Thanks! This was the end of June. The chinook salmon fishing has been pretty consistent throughout this summer. Which week are you heading to the Somass? Awesome!

I went up that area once and also had my best day of trolling. In the end we went to catch and release in shallow water, no flasher was a lot of fun

That was a great video. What part of pacific ocean were you at? Between the mainland and the island or west coast?
@FishingwithRod3 ай бұрын
This is the West Coast.
@thecount10013 ай бұрын
between Vancouver Island and Japan.
@basilabdulsalam15903 ай бұрын
I think that is too much for the environment! Catch and release! By this way of fishing soon you will see that there is not any fish left. 😮
@FishingwithRod3 ай бұрын
There is a time and place for catch and release. For ocean fisheries, our approach now is to catch and keep what we are legally allowed to, and stop fishing. There is always a mortality associated to releasing. While there are good practices that can minimize that mortality (like the gaff release shown in the video), the best way to maintain zero mortality is to stop fishing instead of catching and releasing more fish. As for how many is too many, that's up to the managers to determine that. The abundance of chinook salmon on the West Coast Vancouver Island that are heading to some of the main hatcheries is very strong this year, and the density shown on the sounder and our CPUE (catch per unit effort) reflect that.
