I have the cold press Etcher watercolor book that I have been working on for almost a year now. It always feels so good to work with and the paper has held up so well even though at times I use way too much water. I've even used it with gouache and watercolor pencils without any problems. The way I've solved the slight buckling is to use clips on the edge when I'm creating, when I'm done I put the rubber band back on and store it at the bottom of a stack of other books. Thank you so much for the awesome video! Your tomatoes were so cute and I think the kettle turned out well. I think you were a bit hard on yourself/doubting yourself for a moment there (which we all do!) but the end result was great! I hope you and your family are well. Take care, friend!

I use the cold pressed ones for watercolor daily. These are the ‘everyday sketchbooks’, 100% cotton, 230gsm/110lb. I don’t use a lot of heavy washes and have minimal buckling even when using both sides. They also make the “perfect sketchbook’ that is 300gsm/140lb 100% cotton that is just a few $$ more.

I was just talking to my friends and told them I have a bunch of sketchbooks i haven't used yet. Canson is kinda my favorite but I'm willing to be swayed if this one is a good one. I like watercolor better as it can be mixed media and the texture is nice. Tip: wipe off the paint brush before washing it in the water and your water won't be as muddy Also don't mix paint with brush you'll ruin the bristles. Use a pallet knife or craft stick

"Look how beautiful the water is- my good-ness!" Glad I'm not the only one who tends to love swirling paint in water. Also- in your quest for trying new colors for shadows- try Dark Purple. You want some depth, water down some Dioxazine Violet or just Dark Purple, and add it where you want shadow. Sometimes Indigo is a good shadow color too. I'll even do a combo. It just adds so much more pop to a piece. I love how your pieces turned out. I'm getting my first Etchr sketchbook for my bday in November, but in portrait hot pressed style. (6x9 size).

Hey Mira! I’m actually quite close to finishing my current sketchbook and I’m already looking for a new mix media sketchbook that can handle wet media such as ink, watercolor, gouache, but also mediums such as colored pencils and graphite pencils. I am really excited to see you try out so many different sketchbooks so I can get an idea of sketchbooks I want to try! 😊🥰 Also, when you do finish trying all of those sketchbooks, could you maybe mention the mediums that work well on the paper of the sketchbooks as well as mediums that do not work? That would be very helpful for me as well as other artists in finding a sketchbook that best fits their needs ❤️ Thank you and I love your art and fun energy in every video! Happy fall Mira! 🥰🍁🍂

Hey, if you are still looking for a mixed media type of sketchbook to handle all of those mediums, I currently am using the Stillman and Birn Zeta series and it’s made for both wet and dry media. I love it! I use acrylics, watercolors, inks, colored pencils, and graphites. It has a smooth surface but there are also ones with a rough surface as well if you prefer.

So since this is a mixed media one I saw somebody posted that the watercolor version is thick and 300 something that I think makes it good quality; sorry these terms are new to me. Would would the watercolor version have handled the gouache differently?
@recoveringsoul7552 жыл бұрын
OH, it's a mixed media book not hot press. When you started the second painting and told us to guess what it was, I was thinking maybe a Moth, because you like drawing moths. Then you went a bit further and it looked like the center of a flower,and I thought I was right when you added the second color (outline the 3 petals), but when I saw you reach for a redder color, I realized it was a tomato. Fun

Very impressed that you did 4 layers of ink & paint for the background and that paper held up so well! Mira, it’s like you can see into my mind & bedroom/art room - because I just bought on clearance these DrPhMartin metallic inks and I have no idea what to do with them. So I wanted to start playing with them and seeing how they work with brushes versus as pen ink /calligraphy, so you using these inks was really cool and I can’t wait to try.
