Hey hey mister fowler, if ever you need good material for a slingshot, i got a hot lead for you: skateboards. They’re made of 7 ply maple, strong and sturdy as all hell, and a decent enough shape for slingshots. Best of all, we skateboarders break the things all the time, so there’s a plentiful supply. Ask around if someone skates around you, and check if they’ve got a broken board or two you could pick up. You won’t be dissapointed!

Hey Fowler, I was thinking about your shelter. Having that reed as a wall insulator is really great, it will save a lot of calories once you are inside. I also was thinking that you could save a lot of time if you woud just put the reeds horizontally and compress them between 2 circles of posts. So you don't need to make any inner wall weaving. I have tried this on lower structures and it works fine. This also works with grass or even debris (add little branches or grasses in the mix) I usually put a heavy log on top as a compression device. You can also sink your reeds in water for some time before using them, to make them more pliable, but for me it was fine without that. Don't know if this understandable as a text. If you want I can send you a picture. Good luck for your next challenge! Take care.

Zach, your cords look shiny, clean and new. I wonder about adding texture to them might help with slippage. Scrape 'em up with rocks or bark. Add some gritty dirt to the knots. Rub the cord with pine-tar/sawdust combo just enough to transfer some grip but not wasting you fire starter. the goat shed is awesome.

Having no idea of whether you might be on Alone, somewhere. I wanted to suggest you consider that , when you built your shelter, depending on the depth of the topsoil, digging a pit that would better utilize the warmth beneath "floor " level and allowing to build lower walls while still enjoying the same headroom. I'm just an retired old fart, stuck at home, an armchair adventurer". So, I really have little experience, just going off other things I have read ad seen. Your channel is right up there with Survival Russia. Maybe better. Thank you and God bless you. You and your family are in our prayers.

Then why ask the question to us if the reed boat is such an irresistible itch to do? By the time you complete the boat, you won't get it on the water as most will be froze. Now thatching the hut may not seem all that glamorous, but it gives you a reasonable shelter to work in and even spend time in over the winter and you can expand the work space beyond the Patagonian shelter to allow you space to build a reed canoe/raft that will work for you when the waters finally thaw. You've made up your mind and thus it is.

Great vid. However did you consider notching towards the base ends of roof poles so they could sit more securely on the walls?
@Jesusandbible4 жыл бұрын
Maybe this design is overkill. hammering square frames into the floor, then supporting them with more support spikes, and adding the reeds next, would take far less time. But your design is a fortress against storms and wild animals, and you can forget snow storms. The way you did the roof was awesome.

Love what you are doing Fowler. I'd like to see how you do both, the roof and the boat. I can't fathom how a boat made of reeds could carry a human, so that would be fascinating to see it being done.
