I loved the game and probably never would have played it if it wasn't for you. ( Somebody should tell Id Software) you're getting better and better at this. although I thought that the boss battles were very underwhelming, especially the cyberdemon. Glad you liked it Dustin. And that is a difficult question. Personally Doom 1 will always be my favorite. Objectively though, I might have to go 2016. There's just more packed into it and is more accessible. Though Doom 2 would be close.

As I said in the Doom 3 video, the Codex datacubes are basically the terminals from Marathon except portable. It's very fitting as Marathon brought improvements to Doom style engines like rooms over rooms and swimming (2 to 1 years before Duke Nukem 3D came out too!) as well as teaching Doom how to handle a story in that kind of game, and Doom 4 took those lessons on board.

Awesome review. I've yet to play this game, as I'm a huhe Doom fan. The one thing I'm very dissapointed with is the auto save. I'd love to wring the develpers neck for not having a manual save.

Nice review, but let's not forget the MP was outsourced to Certain Affinity, who did HALO so it doesn't really count. By the way, DoomMarine is first, so MasterChief can't be the DoomGuy in space, it's DoomGuy himself. Not being petty, just love the game and in a month it will be a year old. We've been ripping and tearing for a year already. The Revenant is their best revision of any of the characters. Also they removed the Revenants homing missile style from DOOM 3. They followed you around corners and down hallways, long distance, and were like a 1 hit kill.

Addressing the sound design, I will never forget playing this on PC with headphones on, and after taking out the imps in one of the very first arenas (I believe with the first gore nest), coming to a corner of the map about to continue through, I heard the stomping of some of the bigger enemies on a floor above me and was unsettled enough to have to stop and compose myself. Masterful sound design in a game where all of the sounds give me anxiety inducing sensory overload... I love DooM. XD

This was/is the reboot that we needed and I'm excited for the sequel, and since that eternal's gonna have story DLC's, I doubt that will be the conclusion and I think this will be a trilogy, you argue VFR was the 2nd game, but that really was more of a side game than a proper continuation
