The SN95 Mustang is one of the cheapest project cars you could buy today with a V8. However the SN95 Cobra is typically overshadowed by its new edge counterpart - the 2003 Terminator Cobra. So my question is are these cars worth taking a look at? Let's talk about it.

VASTLY incorrect. The mustang nobody talks about is the malaise era mustang II that helped ford through the oil crisis and generally regarded as trash by any mustang enthusiasts. If you want to restore one your parts are limited to USED only. CJ will sell parts for every other mustang just not the II.

My dad bought a 1998 cobra brand new whenever I was a teenager. He let me take my date to my prom in it. He took me to my cancer treatments in it, we did donutsin a parking lot, he drifted in that car. So many great memories in that 98 cobra. One day soon, I will own a 98 cobra of my own.

I'm a chevy guy born and raised and I've never liked mustangs for the most part but I can really appreciate this guy building the car he grew up in for him to pass down to his kids. It's a sick car and people like this make the car scene what it is. It doesn't matter what car you have or how fast it is. If it's important to you and you love and care about it that's all that matters. ✌️

@snakebitten1997
@snakebitten1997 3 ай бұрын
@@redlight3932biggest difference is the heads. Everyone talks bad about the car cause the body is controversial & people talk bad about the heads. The B heads do exceptionally well with boost however NA these cars are kind of a dog. You really need cams & at least a 4:10 to really get these things moving. Also, they’re incredibly reliable cars. I owned a built 03 Mach 1, and my dad had a 03 cobra. The 97 was the oldest and most original and had the LEAST amount of problems. Like I said in the video I’m on the original trans and rear end over 200K miles. Guy on KZbin bought a 97 cobra all original with over 400K miles the odometer worked. I made a video years ago saying that the 96-98 cobra is the BEST mustang you can buy for 10,000$ or less and I still stand buy that opinion. Mainly due to 10K or less you can buy a cobra in really good condition with low to decent miles. Mach 1’s are in rougher shape for the 10K and up mark. I paid 7500$ for my Mach 1 and dumped about 15K$ into to it to fix it. Motor was shot I got lied too but the owner, 4/10 paint condition/interior was beat up etc etc. you get much better car for the $$$ on the 96-98 cobra ok rant over lol.

Thank you so much David for the review! I had a GREAT time hanging out with you again and catching up off camera. You are such a genuinely awesome and nice guy & I cannot stress to you enough how much this meant to me & my father. My father was literally on the edge of his chair smiling ear to ear like a kid (and he loves to recline and drink his beers 😂😂) Not only was I able to have a goal accomplished by having you review this car but you made my dads night. Seriously that right there has made this entire process worth every $$ and every moment wrenching on this car worth it. The hoods back on & to give you a hint I’m doing a boost setup the everyone overlooks but loves (it’s not centrifugal & it’s not turbo). And I will also be on E85 as a couple of hints. Hoping to meet again when the car is finished up. Thank you so much David, you rock! 💪🏻 #TDIBSQUAD

It’s the car that made me a car guy! My mom and dad had a red 94 Cobra that was my first exposure to a “cool” car when I was 4-7 years old. Hindsight being 20/20 I know it wasn’t fast, but it was sporty, it looked cool, and it sounded awesome and little kid me was in love with it. The best part is the car introduced me to my childhood dream car. Mom was a professional photographer and we were on the interstate one night on our way back from Circuit City where she was buying her new camera (Circuit City, yeah, this might have been in like 2000 lol) and a guy in a dream spec blue and white 2nd gen Viper GTS tried to race her. Mom, despite my begging her to do it lol, ended up not racing him. Brother grabbed second and took off like a rocket ship down the interstate. About 2 miles later we passed him pulled over in the median by a Virginia state trooper and I just know that ticket had to have hurt lol. Any time I see an SN95 Cobra that memory is the first thing that comes back and it’s safe to say that car and that moment had a direct influence on me being a car guy now. Since then I’ve grown up, turned 30 (ouch), had a full bolt ons LS3 Camaro in my 20s and now I have a ‘18 S550 GT and I can say without a doubt I’d have not had either car had it not been for a red ‘94 Cobra that my dad surprised my mom with back in the late 90s.

Dude I had a 94 mustang gt and although not a cobra it was a badass and reliable car...I got spanked by camaros but didn't care, seats comfortable, super reliable, looks cool, got great highway mileage despite having 3.73's (25mpg highway) and always got thumbs up from the older guys. I'd highly recommend getting one if you haven't already, doesn't take much to make them handle really good and be corner carvers, need extra power? Get some aftermarket heads and slap a mild custom cam in it and supercharger. Just make sure you don't bother with getting gears shorter than 3.55's gets annoying on the highway lol

What's crazy is these were around 14 to High 13s in perfect conditions and good launch, and trapped like high 90s. Had one way back in early 2000s. But my truck right now, a Platinum F150 5.0 (10 Speed and 3.55s) ran 14.1 at 99 stock on 93 lol. It's kinda nutty to think back and now trucks doing that with ease, tuned on 93 now and it's ridiculous what these current Gen Coyotes gain even n/a. But nothing is like those old modular blocks sound, even the sohc, they just have that unique burble gurgle especially down low and like normal city driving. Looove sound of the Coyote, but it doesn't have the old modular gurgle.

Some people think they can sell it for higher but ultimately nice example 96-98’s remain under that 10K threshold. The ones well over 10K are more on a collector status level. But I’m hoping you’re right on the price and popularity. The whole point has been trying to show everyone how great these cars are. I would totally buy another one!

I had a 95 Cobra which was the 5.0 pushrod motor, sprayed her with a 150 shot and had a blast. Built a 331 w/ Ported Edelbrock Heads, Custom Cam, and had the turbo kit ready to go on... Sent the Victor 5.0 Intake Manifold out for powder coat, got it back... Didn't realize there was sandblast media caked inside the manifold that despite tossing it in the parts washer and running some water through it did NOT come out. First start w/ the New 331 and in about 40 seconds it sucked the sand blast media through the engine and destroyed everything... I eventually sold the chassis and then rebuilt the engine and sold that as well, but sadly never was able to get the car back together. Would love to find that car again or one like it and Coyote swap it.

Always saying you should review one that’s seen better days, no offense to the first video with the $500 one. He owns a 96 Cobra and I a 95 GT. I can’t explain how much of a difference the Pushrod motor feels over a Modular, especially the 4v! High rpm revving, smooth and just wants to keep pulling. The only time I was able to outperform him was when I got the Trickflow Top End kit on the GT and then later on a Vortech. The amount of feelings he hurt with that car you’d have to ask him. Currently deciding whether to continue on the current motor or Coyote swap the Cobra. Thank you for the video!

I love the 94-98 sn95 body. I’m old, but I remember being in my early teens and the whole family was sitting in front of the TV back in December of 93 in anticipation of the debut commercial for the 1994 Mustang. It was all anyone talked about when we went to school. I had a 98 GT back in the day. I loved it, but you’re right about it sitting like a monster truck. That suspension was so squishy, it was almost unsafe…but my stock s550s sit a little too high too, but nothing like the sn95. The first gen sn95 with a nice stance and big meat, it’s probably one of my favorite looks of any Mustang out there. I get it’s not a performer, but it looks good. I’ve had two 69s, two fox bodies, two s550s, but only one sn95. I would love another.

Awesome car with some nice flames! My first mustang was a white 94 V6 that I had all the dreams for doing a v8 swap or adding a blower (or both). Never did anything beside a cold air intake before I got my first foxbody 5.0 but I had a lot of fun in that car

The 1995 Mustang Cobra R is the most forgotten Cobra in my book. The 96-98 Cobras are not forgotten to me at all. The 1996 Mystic Cobra is my favorite Cobra of all time. These Cobras and the Lincoln Mark VIII had blocks built in Italy. Supposedly they can take 900 HP with no problem.

My uncle bought a 98 GT Mustang brand new. A week after he got it, smelled fuel. Brought it in for service. Service dept burned the car down. They gave him credit for the new purchase price of the car from the dealer, AND he got paid from the insurance company. He took a brand new 98 Cobra in Royal Atlantic Blue off the showroom floor. Nice car. The second stick shift car I ever got to do burnouts in. He got GTRAC STG 3 suspension, alum driveshaft, king cobra clutch, 3.73 rear gear, bassani X pipe and bolt on engine mods. It made almost 400hp to the tire. In 98 for a basically stock car that was really good power. It was a 4.6 though, so mod motor yeah whatever. With a set of Nitto radials I ran his tire pressures at MOROSO drag strip, and it went 12s consistently all day. Almost broke into 11s. A cool car. He sold it years ago. The color caught me. A tune , exhaust, intake and injectors woke the car up. I think he even got the heads ported.

With fbo they barely top 300 to the tire let alone 400 either that was the happiest dyno on earth, you meant to type 300 not 400, or you're straight lying lol. I love these cars and think they're slept on majorly especially for big power builds (all they need is rods and pistons and they're 1000+ wheel capable with ease) but they certainly don't make 400 wheel with bolt ons lol

4v’s will always have more character & sound better than coyotes. Take me back to the early 2000’s where I don’t hear ear bleeding straight piped s550’s around every corner
@midnight347
@midnight347 3 ай бұрын
I agree that the older 4v sounds better (the coyote is a 4v too) the main issue with the coyote isn't so much the coyote it's the owners throwing the loudest possible exhaust on it creating a raspy mess because they think louder=better. My 12 boss has a free flowing hpipe w side pipe connections to utilize the stock boss side pipes (just let's some sound out the side) and it has borla s type axle back and it sounds badass. It isn't super stupid loud and raspy like most coyote based engines are because I went with an h and didn't choose the loudest possible mufflers and I also didn't remove the stock resonators. It really keeps the rasp toned down. It's loud and aggressive and deep not annoying and raspy. The s550 has a different kind of exhaust routing which makes them sound different than even s197 coyote based cars.

I meant as in the brakes suck stopping power wise, not maintenance or pad/rotor upgrades. Bite force on these are no beuno. I think the braking system on these cars are dangerous. I have fresh drilled/slotted rotors, upgraded new pads, fresh brake fluid and I had to do an emergency stop one time and I was at a safe distance and still almost hit someone. Down the road I am gonna do a k member/brake upgrade before anything else.

Didn't make shit for power? They came out in 1996 with 305 hp put down 260 to the tire that's a good bit more than the 5.7 lt1 of the same year had on the gm side. Even the 1998 ls cars only made about 20 hp more. So the fact you say they "don't make shit for power" tells me you must be young, you don't know shit about cars, possibly both.

Also the svt contour was pretty badass for its time for what it was. It was a 200 hp v6 in a fairly light car. I wouldn't call it "gutless" again unless you're comparing it to new cars of today which isn't really fair. They could be made pretty quick with mods alot of people swap 3 liter bottom ends and use the svt heads you can get a surprising amount of power out of it for what it is.

I wasnt a mustang fan before I got my first s550. I really wanted a Camaro but I couldn’t for the life of me find the right Camaro that I wanted so I got my first s550 which was a 2015 gen 2 6 speed manual. I fell in love with the car, and I just got even more excited about the car when I took it out and was beating every stock car out there and even keeping up with if not still pulling out wins on the some of the modified cars. Sadly that car ended up being totaled in an accident and I was left heart broken cause I couldn’t afford to buy it back from insurance. Luckily I found another 2015 s550 in way better condition 6 speed manual and same color just this time it was a PP1 which I still have to this day and she’s my baby. I love that car to death and likely will never get rid of her. Owning two mustangs by this point and it sparked my interest in the older body styles as well. I never liked the new edge body style but for some reason it grew on me. I ended up just recently trading my 06 Cadillac for a 3v that I’ll be making a drift car out of and one day I’ll get a new edge hopefully, but I will say the only other body styles that’s on my list is the 67 fast back. I’m still not a big fan of the fox body unless it’s a notch back or anything else inbetween. And the s650s look so good on the outside but I can’t get over that stupid wannabe Tesla screen they put in it. It just looks ugly and like it doesn’t belong in the car in my opinion. Of corse it’s not as though I could afford an s650 right now but even if I could I likely won’t get one purely because of that screen, it’s just too much for me. The digital cluster in the 2018s and up were ok but I’m old school and I like my classic clusters. 🤷‍♂️

I would get another 96-98 way before a 302 cobra. They have way more potential with less modding. Rods and pistons and its good for 1000+ wheel whereas the 302 would need rods pistons and crank as well as an aftermarket block to achieve that not to mention the 4v can make WAY more power with stock untouched heads. It's just a better car. People think because the older one was a "5.0" that makes it have more potential. Couldn't be more wrong.

The SN95 Cobra wasnt even the first car to get the B-head 4v engine with the Teksid block. The 93-98 Lincoln Mark VIII got it first (with a few differences, of course), plus it was on the MN12 platform that was already IRS. They're just a bit heavy. (We also won't count the '95-'02 Continental, since it had the FWD variant of the b-head 4v).

Also the 5.4/5.8 4v in the 07-14 gt500 were old school mod motors with the same firing order as these so they also sound super badass. Alot of people kind of lump those in with coyotes when they in fact are direct descendants of these and share the same firing order with the 4.6 and old 5.0 which is the main thing that makes the coyote based engines sound so much different.
