That sucks about the import parts taking so long to arrive. I usually don't have that issue, unless I'm ordering something custom or something I have to wait on because the company waits to hit a certain number before they decide to manufacture it. I find that using eBay and Amazon to order parts keeps the companies honest with delivery times. If they aren't meeting eBay or Amazon's requirements they can't sell on their websites. Good luck! Definitely missing the Import content.

for what you would be aiming for out of smurf the 8.8 rear is fine just get axles and a drive shaft and a 6R80 out of another S197 it can handle the power fine and be essentially plug n play... but than you would need to pull the engine and do rods/pistons/oil pump gears/timing sprocket so you don't blow it up

I'm surprised you've had such bad luck with parts but more surprised that you've had gremlins with JDM stuff. I'm in the opposite position. I'm finishing up my Millennium Falcon themed Camry this year (my daily) and looking for a Mustang as my next car. My Camry is twenty one years old and has the same engine as the SW20 MR2, the 5SFE. It's a great platform to learn on and has lasted me since Nov 2015 with no major issues. As far as gremlins go, my 96 Ford Probe GT followed by my 95 SC 400. The 400 is why I have no desire to own Japanese luxury again. PS, I've been following you for years and popped in to see where you're at with your builds. I can't wait for that comparison video!

My bolt on and cammed 07 GT has this issue even after getting the 1 piece driveshaft of still randomly "bucking" when taking off sometimes. I wouldn't use a th400 in Smurf if you plan on driving it down the road, 4r70 can be built the same, bolts right up but you maintain an overdrive gear. I've thought about it since my 3650 is getting rough into 2nd and 3rd and the 5r55 are garbage.

David you need to check the company's and websites you order from to see if they have parts in stock. If you’re enjoying the car how it is right now and you’re not experiencing any problems, why invite more potential problems in the future? I think smurf is fine as it is. If your gonna do a drag car do sub zero. Start out slow, get some nt05r's and do a comparison of times between the tires you got and the street legal slicks. You could do performance mods and do vids on the difference it made on the track. Then eventually work your way up to a power adder and full slicks with supporting mods. I would be interested in watching that. I mean food for thought, I beat my buddies 18 5.0 at the track multiple times in my 96 fauxbra. My car only makes 285hp at the wheel but I run nt05's and beat him on the launch. I'd like to see what a new 5.0 can do with the ability to hook the power it makes stockish.
