That's exactly how the Rykard fight plays out, if you can get the right timing down, he never has a chance to even attack you in either phase before he's dead. I do love this boss though, the design and attention to detail really sets it apart, and might be my favorite boss. And Rykard probably has the best voice acting in the game.

You can avoid the curse blood attack too with the mixed physic you get from Eleanora(I think it’s her). Also there is an incantation that removes it I think(I just use the physic).

You absolutely can stun lock him into oblivion. You just didn't use the L2 combo. If you hit it again it does a followup attack that always stuns him. And with base fp you can kill him with 2 blue flasks in less than 60secs.

This fight is amazing, but my personal favorite boss is Mohg lord of blood. Everything about the fight is epic. The lore and atmosphere is unmatched and the music is probably my favorite in the souls series.

This was my favorite boss in elden hands down. As someone who only uses melee builds in from games, it felt so satisfying being able to smack him in the face from half way across the arena with that sword and the cut scene and voice acting is jaw dropping. Volcano manor may be my favorite area in the game also. 👍

In any case you like these bosses or not, The thing is... i'm still in disbelief when i think that most of these latter the are optional. Malenia, Rykard, Placidus... i have no word to describe what i felt when i layed down on that cold stone. (on this matter Farum Azula can make you cry for how much detail and beauty it has.) Most of the data show that only around 30%, more or less, do complete an open world like this, and even less do secondary stuff... so what's the point to spend so much time and energy spent in something that most of the players will end up without seeing it? Honestly i have no answer for this matter, but i sincererly like this side of the industry, the industry as a whole including even "the bad ones". I only hope that the evironment of those working place will get better for the people who are working in it. (I apologize in advance for my broken english)

He is one of the coolest bosses no doubt. However i think the reason you felt it was less "broken" than the others is because you came back after defeating the end game bosses. So you were probably à bit overleveled. So the point you made at 4:00 could apply to any boss, provided you are sufficiently overequipped/levelled

If you have beaten Rykard make sure you go back later after the women in the Manor is gone she will be devouring the corpse of Rykard in his battle area . She has a small dialogue and if you hit her she disappears and a crucible knight invades you. Always finding new stuff I was 200 hours in before I found that little invasion

I gotta disagree. Malenia is personally my favorite fight. Yes, she has been pegging me from behind for the last 5 hours but I have gotten so good at fighting her as a result, that I can dodge and counter the majority of her attacks now. The fight feels so freakin awesome now that I can dodge Waterfowl Dance. Phase 2 is so epic also. Rykard is awesome and I loved that fight too cuz of how cinematic and grand scale it was but it wasn't very challenging for me. Idk how you can not love Radahn either. I felt like such a badass going up against him with my homies Alexander and Blaidd.

Malenia i liked more personally, but if you wanna be objective, Malekith and Godfrey are still way better as a fight, and Palxidusax as a cinematic fight. Sadly you can stunlock him with the heavy charged attack phase 1 and 2 which is why I had no fun playing this boss. The lava does minimal damage, so you can also melee attack him up close with low risk. This boss felt like a longer duration of the Yhorm fight if you figure out how to accidentally stun lock him or cheese him with the one weapon you're supposed to defeat him with.

Elden Ring's bosses generally very good. The problems come from using the same build as DS3, regarding combat. Rykard feels like a DS1 boss, and DS1 has the best overall boss design in the series (Bed isn't boss don't give me shit)

Not sure if anyone else said this, but when you said that part from 3:40 to 4:20, mainly when you said it was out of your controll, you were a little bit wrong. You actually can significantly reduce the damage most enemies do when you are grabbed, and even break out of the grab early if you spam any of the your buttons. It's not a explained mechanic but it is there with most enemies and some bosses.

Personally, I think he was too easy and gimmicky. I really loved his design though, and his voice acting is amazing (always makes me laugh) but I felt like something was missing from his fight and that was the feeling of being challenged. My favorite bosses in Elden Ring were Malenia, Radahn and Maliketh, all of which pose a significant threat to the player and demand a lot of pattern recognition, so I guess I do think hard boss fights tend to be memorable. But eh, guess we just have different tastes when it comes to boss fights, great video tho, keep it up.

I can't agree with your complaints about Radahn only, now - maybe it's trauma from getting gaped by the final five bosses my first go-around, but solo'ing Radahn was so manageable in NG+. His attacks aren't that bad to dodge, they're really not. And he doesn't input read, so he feels more fair than those final bosses to me now. TBH I think the fault lies in any player who makes Radahn earlieir than, say, their fourth shardbearer - Caelid in general is so crazy that I feel it's meant to repel most players like the graveyard in Dark Souls until they get appropriately strong.

Thank you for the video. Rykard is certainly a memorable boss. I totally agree that (like most bosses in Elden Ring), he is aesthetically a sight to behold and the voice acting was goofy enough to give me a chuckle 😄 In terms of fight itself however ... well ... I have to say I had a different experience. For me it fit into the *gloriously gimmicky* category and first time around, I couldn't wait to be done with him 😅 The boss can easily be cheesed of course since it's endlessly staggered with the weapon art spamming (apparently it's a famous speedrun strategy now). If you choose not to spam L2 however then the difficulty becomes a question of *how early* are you fighting him. Technically, you can fight him after Godrick and claim your second Great Rune that way; in which case _you're going to seriously feel_ his attacks, especially during the second phase chaos. But these are just my personal experiences and feelings. All in all, it's quite a spectacle and lore-wise very peculiar.

Fuck the Radahn hot take, this shit is fire. Slaying an ancient serpent with the spear specifically crafted to end its life is fucking badass. Also, the spear was left in the arena by Rykard's own knights, who turned on him after he fed himself to the snake. One of the knight's ghost outright asks you to kill Rykard.

I personally have a quite uncommon opinion. Godrick is my favorite boss I've faced so far. His move set is quite simplistic but easily susceptible to manipulation. If you just ignore the signs of each one of his moves and just spam roll or attack, he'll punish you. After a few attempts, as long as you're paying attention to his move set, you can very easily make quick work of him.

It was awesome fighting him after i had given Gurranq all the deathroot.l i loved the Rykard fight, I struggled heavily with him in the second phase. I was trying to avoid cheesing him with the ash of war Godrick is a great design too, his attack pattern is easy enough to learn for new players to progress and an interesting enough move set that even vet players took time learning

I really like Rykard but he’s not even my favorite from Elden Ring, let alone all of Fromsoftware. I think Radahn might be my new favorite boss in a Fromsoft game. He’s just a perfect package when it comes to buildup, arena, lore, OST, and grandness in scale. The fact that you’re given the choice of fighting him alone or with the festival’s NPCs is so unique, and both options are very fitting thematically. I don’t think he’s THE most fun boss in terms of gameplay, but everything else about him just blends together to create an absolutely unforgettable experience.

I'm pretty sure every Elden Ring player can (unfortunately) concur with this, but the game's optional bosses are, like, WAY better than the main ones, with exceptions, like Malenia or Radahn. Rykard is, also, one of my favorite bosses of the game, second only to Astel. Rykard isn't just a super fun and badass fight that makes it seem like you're witnessing a battle of titans, it's also really cool in regards to the lore, which is undoubtedly a cardinal piece of the game itself. It's badass, it's hard, but not too hard, and it's thoughtful in its designs, attacks and strategies, which can't be said about too many bosses in the game. I know you probably won't see this, but I'd love to see a commentary on the Astel fight in the Ranni questline.

Should make a personal video on EZ mode. Not hating, but if you like this boss that is “early-ish game” (most bosses are optional, Morgot is the first story related) with an endgame build it says a lot about the kind of fun you seek. Those grabs and combos mentioned can easily be one shot if you fight him early. On repeat playtroughs you notice the only section blocked by the story is Leyndel/Mountain tops and beyond, Volcano Manor is part of Altus AKA can be killed fighting close to no bosses (I guess only that Godskin noble for the early teleport is needed).

I do personally think he was best boss in elden ring, but yes he was a bit too easy for sure. i just wish he had more and different kinda attacks mostly in phase 1 and he really wouldn't need to be stunned other than the stun he gets from being attacked as some others as well seem to have pointed out he can be stun locked to death because he gets stunned for so long when his posture breaks. still would need to add that lava around the boss should be somehow removable as it really feels like it only takes away from the fight and the voice certainly makes his voice to be quite easy to remember who is talking.

You need 2 great runes to enter Leyndell, so you can choose any 2 available Shardbearer to fight, you can skip Godrick and Renalla if you know where to go.

His BS skulls and stuff would always kill me every time he summoned them and would trap me in corners and the lava pool would stun me while I got WALLOPED on.

I do agree some of the bosses can be a bit spammy but it truly is just about where you are at in the game and I believe it was designed this way, if you want easy mode it’s actually easy too obtain just level yourself too a point you are very powerful with farming, requires no skill base and I found I could fight a boss and if it felt too hard I’d farm a little get a few caves cleared and get 10 more levels and boom that super hard boss gets melted . Much harder towards the final bosses but even still Malenia and the second Astel where the ones that really annoyed me.

@@ambrizfer7898 it can be if you want too play with summons, but like I said if you level yourself you can be overpowered for almost any fight. I killed radahn no summons with rivers of blood in 2 try’s fire giant took me about 20 tries but I got it maleina about 40, pretty standard for a from soft game and I could have leveled further for malenia and probably beaten her quicker. Summons can be used too make it much easier as well but just leveling yourself too a point you feel comfortable with your damage output on a boss you’re good. You don’t have too melt every boss for the game too feel fun and yes some of the bosses move sets can be a little bull shit but with 109 unique bosses and counting it’s hard too make every single move set 100% balanced that would take years and years of testing. Trust me if you are level 150+ the game gets much much much easier for yourself. And a lot of the times people just aren’t taking full advantage of all the damage output buffs and talismans you could utilize. I trudged through my first few bosses and eventually after getting a build I liked together only a handful of bosses can give me trouble. Rune farming is a key for this game wether by design or a not so great game mechanic that’s the way the game is functioning right now, I have rune farmed for maybe 8 hours of my total 200 hours and am level 187

I Never farmed I just killed every boss. The final bosses were disappointments though. Elden beast is pretty easy. Sekiro probably had the best bosses overall in any fromsoft game

@@ambrizfer7898 you are better than me lol most casual players have major trouble without high damage outputs too compensate for lack of game mechanics skill (me) I have no shame summoning when I am getting owned I love the game and just enjoy it with what’s in the game i love that you can make it harder for yourself but there are many different ways too make it harder and it isn’t just a difficulty slider. I made Rykard hard for myself and did not summon or use the serpent blade because it was an epic fight but with Malenia after a while it was just grueling so I summoned the shit out of some friends lol sue me I am not a glutton for pain 😂

*Critiques Rykard's awesome voice* Immediately invalidates all your points, I adore the memeability of his voice! But in all seriousness, while I can't say I agree about Rykard being the best boss in the game by any means (I still think the more traditional and less gimmick-oriented climactic fights win out, like Radagon, Godfrey, Morgott or Maliketh), I do agree that he may be the best spectacle fight in the entire game and possibly their best ever gimmick fight too. Only Sekiro's Divine Dragon can challenge him in that regard, I'd argue. He's definitely incredibly memorable, as you said, and that's always a huge plus. That being said, plenty of people I know didn't like his fight much at all, citing too much spam and such, and while I disagree, I think it's worth noting that he is pretty divisive in some ways and at the end of the day, what bosses anyone prefers is always so deeply subjective in all of the Soulsborne games.

My favorite boss in ER are Mohg and Godfrey. Godfrey feels like a dance, the second phase is a surprise, I love the mechanics of his attacks. Mohg, well he's mohg, I love the devil asthetic to his design. Radagon is also up there, Elden Beast kinda ruined it but I still love Radagon. As for the best boss in From Software games, I don't think Rykard is the best. I think that title belongs to one of these bosses like Isshin, Gael, Ludwig, and maybe Owl (Father)
