So they used to talk about the characters, instead of their own personal stuff, while owning that they are evil. That’s kind of unsettling to think that these people admit they are evil.

1977: STAR WARS original movie big fan. Waited in line and saw it a dozen times (or more). Enjoyed the sequels & prequels. 2024: completely lost interest in the story except the online fascination of how the Disney company has spoiled such a beloved entertainment franchise.

I was 5 when the movie came out and i cant say i remember any pre-release hype or trailers. Not saying they weren't there, but just don't remember them. So it's like i had no idea where this movie came from. I remember it seemed like my dad was taking my mom and i to see it. I remember being in line seeing adults discussing what it could be about. I remember getting the booklet and looking thru it trying to wrap my head around it all, curious how these various elements fit together and what kind of movie this was going to be. The last interview at the end, seemed pre-release, so i guess there was some sort of hype being built up, just off my radar. It was truly like nothing we'd seen before. This video definitely illustrates the sense work ethic, importance and gravity the Star Wars actors and other actors used to have about their roles. Sure there are plenty of actors that take their job seriously, but the illustrations shared here in this video about this "new generation" of Star Wars actors has fallen greatly. Thank you, Junkman. This is the kind of research and story telling you do so well. May the TRUE Force we all know and love continue to be with you! 😃👍

I wonder if modern era actors have less respect for what they are doing because of all the cgi and other things that are pasted in after and its created an odd work space. Sure there was bluescreen and so on back in the day but a room full of guys in alien costumes and crowd scenes having actual crowds definitely give things more of a larger than life feel.

You could actually leave SW out and just call it "Then vs Now - The Fall of Western Civilization.." Sadly, Mark Hamill would now fit right in with the new loud mouth Jokers (ahem) promoting division. And that one hurts.

Class acts like Carrie Fisher are rare these days, especially when dealing with actors and actresses under 50 years old. Sadly, writing ability also appears to be rarer, because these hacks mask create dreck under the name of popular and well established series, hiding behind special effects to mask their incompetence and attacking fans of said series when they're called out for being the hacks they are. The art of cinema, at least in the western world, appears to be suffering from a terminal illness rooted in pushing agenda interspersed with special effects over quality story telling and cinematography.

Notice how no one asked any of the old actors about their sexuality? Hear the TOTAL difference? Story, character, responsibility/consequences vs What's your favorite color? Old actors talk about Star Wars and everything within it, New actors talk about changing Star Wars and everything without it. Thanks for the video

That is noteworthy. Granted, I don't watch those interviews and only see the clips. Maybe they do ask about the story and I so happen to never see evidence of it. On the flipside, there's certainly no Lucas clips of him seeking backpats for hiring 'insert whatever here.' Imagine if somebody had asked Carrie Fischer if she thought R2 & C3P0 got-it-on.

Guess I'm a little late to comment. You could see the passion for Star Wars, the actors had back then. Talking about the story and their interaction with each other. It was movie magic with the original trilogy and the prequels. Now, the actors are self-centered and pushing an agenda. It's a tradgedy what modern Disney has done to Star Wars. It's not about making fans happy anymore.

Headland "I think it's canon that R2-D2 is a lesbian." What bullshit! R2's a droid. Not only was no gender ever established for R2; there was also no sexual preference ever established either since droids don't have sex. Difference between then and now is there was class then and very little now. Promotion of the original trilogy and the prequels was all about the story and characters and Lucas's passion. Now I don't know what the heck it's about. Of course, now they have that big safety net provided by Disney.

I think Mark is brilliant and was a much better actor than people give him credit for. He always seemed to understand just what the story was about in those first 3 movies and could explain it, he was a good spokesman going back to 1976 when they had him promoting Star Wars at Worldcon. I still think Disney didn't treat the Luke Skywalker character as they should have, at least Rian gave Luke a story even if it wasn't what I wanted. JJ and KK their terrible maguffin idea and non-character cameo was a joke.

Only 4 minutes into the video, and it's night and day how different the interviews are, and how much worse they've become. Back in the day with the original trilogy, the actors sounded excited about discussing the stories of the films and the characters they were playing. Even with the prequels. Say what you will about them ( I love them un-ironically), but at least the actors talked about the subject matter within the films and the inner struggles of the characters. Nowadays, it's more about the actors own politics and projecting themselves into the stories (if there's any story at all) as well as doing some of the stupidest skits to try and looks cool (the guy steaming his robes, for example). Yes, Star Wars always had political themes, but at least George wrote it in a way that it was integrated within the universe of that particular galaxy and not just a blatant allegory on Nixon and Vietnam. Anyone could relate to the political themes and they didn't stop the story cold. This is also one of the reasons I don't watch Entertainment Tonight today, because they tend to focus more on the celebrities personal lives and politics instead of talking about the movies themselves. I miss the old days of Entertainment Tonight, when they had critics like Leonard Maltin interviewing film directors and special effects crews and asking them about their filmmaking techniques.
