It's interesting to me that Gene & Roger almost sounded like concerned parents or teachers when they reviewed Eddie Murphy movies that they didn't like, and like proud versions of that when they enjoyed his films. Ultimately I believe they really wanted him to make great movies and not waste his enormous talents. Like I wrote, it's interesting.

Trivia: when I bought tickets to DT, we had the option to purchase a “T shirt ticket,” which I did. A very good movie imo. 1990

We were at Disney World during Dick Tracy mania. You couldn't go anywhere and not see floor-to-ceiling Dick Tracy paraphernalia.

Dick Tracy is basically forgotten at this point. Never discussed, never shown on reruns, its never on streaming. Was such a big deal and then poof - gone

I went to see _Dick Tracy_ on the night of its premiere. I bought a "ticket t-shirt" that had the movie's poster on it and the words "I WAS THERE FIRST." I wasn't the least bit disappointed. It really is an amazing, completely underrated movie. Everyone in it plays the material for all it's worth, and it's beautiful to look at. I still think it's almost as good as _Batman_ from the year before. EDIT: I've gotta admit that what Gene said about Warren Beatty's performance is true. Beatty plays the material in a deadpan fashion, not really showing us much. Maybe he was afraid of upstaging the rest of the production because he considered himself just the world's best actor (it's not like Beatty ever had an ego problem or anything). If he'd played Tracy like he played Bugsy Siegel, man! This movie would be considered a classic. But he didn't and there we are.

I loved Dick Tracy. I still do. I also liked Another 48Hrs as well.

Agree on Dick Tracy, but Another 48 Hrs. is just not funny or exciting. And to make the character that helps Nolte in the first film be the villain in the second one negates things that happened in the first film. Ugh.

I liked Dick Tracy. Hated Another 48 Hours it's like the first one never existed.

I agree. Another 48 Hrs makes the comic relief who helps Nolte in the first movie the bad guy!

I've seen Torn Apart. They're right when they say it's predictable, but it's still good movie. The acting is good.

The two best characters in Dick Tracy are Big Boy and Flattop. Tracy seems like he’s just thrown in there to be the hero while everything goes on around him. It’s an okay movie but nowhere as good as Batman 89. Another 48 Hours is a mess. They would have been better off if they just made Ganz’s brother the lead villain who is out for revenge as the main plot with some other elements thrown in as well. It’s not even a fraction as good as the original.

I watched _Dick Tracy_ once, and perhaps _Batman (1989)_ twice. Maybe I should revisit the former (or even the latter) now that it's been 30 years? But then I felt the same way about _The Rocketeer (1991),_ and haven't seen it again since.

Like it more than Batman with Nicholson.

I actually thought Another 48 Hours was better than it was recieved. It lacked the charm and spontaneity of the first one, but isn't that the usual case with sequels. I saw it for the first time today not expecting much as was pleasantly surprised. It had its funny moments like with the female pickpocket in the bar...and plenty of suspense. The story was a little sloppy but if u r a fan of the first one, this movie is an allright extension of it.

Another 48 Hrs is a plain stupid movie for a sequel. I just dont like how Kehoe (Brion James) ends up as a lead villain at the last minute. It looks like an overworked decision from a scripting point of view.

16:09 They did a segment on Nick Nolte. Perhaps his best movie was with Barbra Streisand in _Prince of Tides (1991)._ Years after watching it, I heard that men/boys can't handle the kinds of trauma his character experienced as a child until around the age of 50, which Nolte was when the movie came out.

Dick Tracy was awful. It was very creative but fell flat. Overrated.

Agreed. The 1989 Batman film gave us disturbed characters and arguably, a commentary on urban decay. This Dick Tracy film doesn't really have anything going for it outside of the superficial such as the special effects, make-up, and set design. I loved it when I was a kid and I was totally underwhelmed after a fairly recent viewing.

I was the right age to be interested in it when it released, but I wasn't. Then I saw it when it first appeared on TV and didn't like it at all.
