Was a student reporter in NYC. On assignment, was slated to visit Fort Apache many years ago, around the time the film was released. The NYPD desk sergeant strongly advised that I do the interview over the phone. The Bronx was a very troubled place at that point…

"is there anything more interesting happening in any of the other 17 hangers?" LOL Roger actually got me there. i havent seen it in a VERY long time, but i remember my father was really fascinated with "Melvin and Howard" . ive actually wondered about that film a few times through the years but totally didnt remember what it was called. like i said though me and my father use to watch it and i really liked it. even though i had no idea who Howard Hughes really even was at that time. i liked "Fort Apache" as well and i know ive seen "The Incredible Shrinking Women" but i do not remember it at all. havent seen any of these films since back then though.

One of my mom's friends took us to _Hangar 18._ I remember her saying she thought it was real; now I see the trailer pushes it like a conspiracy theory. I missed the part about us being descendants of aliens, but _Chariots of the Gods_ was big around that time.

I saw Fort Apache and they were right. That felt like a pilot for a TV Show.

Wow I haven’t thought about the “Incredible Shrinking Woman”, my mother loved that movie. I think there’s a metaphor in there somewhere that spoke to my mother’s sensibilities and feelings as a sometimes overwhelmed mother that had her struggles and that captured some of her feelings of being ignored. Seems Siskel & Ebert may not have caught onto these

I think I tuned in on it once on TV and saw her saying goodbye before shrinking to nothing. I tune out not realizing she was going to come back.

Melvin And Howard is a fantastic movie, they got it right on this one. Hasn't been commercially available for years, very hard to see, but the whole movie is on youtube right now: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iajFY3WBn9Vqg7c

I have the movie on BLURAY, released just a few years ago. It was released by Twilight Time, they went out of business last year. Beautiful BLURAY transfer.

Doesnt Mary Steenburgen have a full nude scene in Melvin and Howard? Asking for a friend.😉

I just saw Incredible Shrinking Woman (yes, I know I’m 43 years late), and I absolutely agree with Gene’s insights on it; I had the same thoughts when Mike Douglas appeared. Hilarious, and not in a good way. Also interesting that Gene laments Paul Newman not having a decent film since the Sting, save for Slap Shot. The following year, Newman hit a hot streak with Absence of Malice and one of his finest ever performances in The Verdict, then Color of Money a few years later. The Hangar 18 review is hilarious as well. I too was suckered in by those commercials and got my parents to take me to see it on a double bill with another Schick Sun Classic production about the Bermuda Triangle. I enjoyed it and was terrified by an opening scene showing an astronaut decapitated on a space walk. I was only 9. My parents suffered through, bless them!

Considering Gene and Roger's opinions regarding the Sunn Classics films like Hanger 18 (yeah, they're pretty pathetic), it still makes you wonder what Gene would have thought had he lived to see the films by The Asylum.... MST3K riffed Hanger 18 during its first year, and it's still one I wish they did again later when they had a full writing staff.

Good God, The Incredible Shrinking Woman is horribly stupid. No wonder I'd forgotten all about it since watching it just once on cable 40+ years ago. Even as a 15 year old stoner kid I knew it was awful. Remember back then when a new movie premiered on HBO or Showtime and you'd watch it a lot because it was new and there was nothing else on? Ugh. Never thought I'd say this but I'm glad MTV came out at the same time so we'd numb our brains on that instead of shit movies like this.

You were "amazed" by Fort Apache? You need to invest in a dictionary. The movie is hot garbage.
