The one great aspect of On Deadly Ground is Seagal's co-stars. Michael Caine playing the villain, against type, and John C. McGinley chewing the scenery as Caine's dragon. They're almost worth putting up with Seagal's holier-than-thou smugness.

people make fun of Steven Seagal a lot and his ego, but Roger uses the word 'sanctimonious" which is very true and a common theme in his films as well and that people dont seem to mention. his films love to have him defending the underdogs and preaching bout it. he loves being not just the hero but the savior. i always remember one of his films he sees someone throw a puppy out of a car window into the road, he rushes over and saves the puppy and later in the film he runs into the guy and gives him a beat down. then the puppy walks over and pees on the guy and it is so cheesy.

I used to like Seagal, but when the people started coming forward telling about what an asshole he is in real life (with all the sexual harassment and assault, the narcissism, martial arts fakery, etc.), I've turned around. Not that I'll stop watching and enjoying his earlier work like Out for Justice, but I'll always keep in mind that the guy on screen is the exact opposite of the actor who's playing him.
