I think the problem with 7 day survivor is that I personally think the achievement was designed for a unique experience. 7 day survivor was meant for a friday afternoon, your best friend rode the bus home from school to your house. Theres pizza rolls in the oven. the door is physically moist from all the 15 year old boy condensation. More sugar is consumed in liquid form than the entire european continent had even thought of before the year 1900. Its your third weekend in a row trying it. You pass the controller off every hour. YTPs are playing in the background. The sun rises at 8 am. The two of you have finally beat it. Your xbox profile has infinite bragging rights Thats what I always thought the spirit of the achievement was, not one dude trying it alone as pretty much part of his job.

I actually have a pretty fond memory of getting the 7 day survivor achievement. I stayed up all night to get it and it felt like a damn journey. Every time you see a character's name and health bar pop up in the distance was nerve racking and I loved every second of it.

DR1 never gets enough credit for its writing and VA. Psychopaths aside, every character in the main plot feels like a believable, real person. No silly Hollywood heroics or dumb horror movie decisions, and I think it was a smart move to give everyone a very average joe appearance. I completely understand why people can hate timers. You want to explore, take things in, don’t want to feel punished for taking your time. And yet, I absolutely *adore* the idea that the story can just go completely past you if you aren’t there for it. It would take a lot of effort but I’d like to see more games tackle the idea. Branching paths in case you miss something crucial. Like in Heavy Rain if you miss a clue that reveals information that would help you later, how could it play out without you having it? Or how in Morrowind it lets you kill key story characters but you can continue knowing you’ve affected the outcome. A straight game over tells you “yeah you missed something, go back”, but it’s cool to me that you can keep going and have to deal with the consequences. Dead Rising still impresses me.

Amusingly enough, Infinity Mode is what keeps me coming back to Dead Rising. Sure, the story mode is fun, but planning route, checking available survivors all while your health decreases gives the game an arcade feeling for me. Yes, the most optimal way to clear it is to stand in a safe zone eating food every 20 minutes, but it isn't the most fun way to do it. The game provides enough food to last Frank a solid 17 days. Instead of waiting while your health ticks down, I find it more fun to run around and explore. I've gotten the 7 Day Survivor achievement at least 5 times now, and I still love playing Infinity Mode.

I had to agree with him. For me when I played it back as a rental it bored me. I had trouble figuring out where I was supposed to go and the "time" restraint discouraged my exploration. The games chalk full of timed quests and moronic AI to rescue and after a while it got tedious. For me I rank it at donate it, but hey I respect your opinion
@remulaevergaze53424 жыл бұрын
@@27Bayleefs The timer is the core of the game, it was designed around that timer, I believe that if the timer was removed then exploration would feel meaningless. Dead Rising 4 removed the timer and escort quests, and it is a terribly generic game, because those elements are what make Dead Rising what it is. I don't believe it's for everyone, but it doesn't need to be, trying to make the game appeal to everyone is why Dead Rising 4 failed so badly. Btw I believe there is a mod for the game that allows you to freeze the timer, giving you plenty of time to explore. Or alternatively Dead Rising 3 has a time limit but it's much more lenient.
@27Bayleefs4 жыл бұрын
@@remulaevergaze5342 I agree that games should not appeal to everyone. But for me, the timer ruined it. This reminds me about a glitch that happens with Dead Rising 2 on the PS4. There’s one cutscene in particular that is a crapshoot to see if it crashes you back the PS boot up screen.

Yeah, i found it odd that 90% of the video is just him complaining about infinite mode and bugs instead of actually talking about the gameplay or story, you know, like a review is supposed to.

I have played dead rising on multiple platforms so many times and cannot think of a single bug that had a big effect on gameplay. Or really many bugs at all. Tbh this guy, like many, probably was just frustrated with how hard the game is. They don't make em like they used to

@@jagund The game is only hard til you get access to the gun shop and Adams Mini Chainsaws, then the game is a breeze lol, and even before then the game really isn't all that difficult.

This review was really stupid and inconsistent. First, how is the game goofy? Dead Rising 1's story is very serious and most of the comedy comes from the player dressing up in silly ways, where as the story is played straight. The only examples of comedy I can think of is with Stephen and even then it's more of a black comedy than anything else. Second saying the game is scary is something I also disagree with. The music, the cutscenes, the way it frames the tragedy of the psychopaths and the games main antagonist, not only is it disturbing seeing someone like Adam or Cliff latch on to the last thing they had before the outbreak but also shows how much is affected them to change them into those people. Also the breakdown that Frank has at the end is pretty nerve wrecking. Personally this review is awful and doesn't do the game justice.

I hate timers. I especially hate being rushed when the game gives you every incentive to take your time and just have fun. Unfortunately, this might be a minority opinion, as most fans seem to think the timer is crucial to the series. I think DR4’s lack of a timer was its one great benefit. Shame everything else about it sucked.
@jamesedleymusic4 жыл бұрын
I guess some Dead Rising fans like the challenge that having a limited amount of time presents to the player. To be honest, I think Dead Rising 2 is a lot more lenient. For the next Dead Rising game, they should have two modes. One with a timer and one without a timer. That way, they can please everyone.
@TigoODonnell4 жыл бұрын
As a fan since the original game, the reason why so many of us like the timers and were upset they got taken away in 4 was because it’s one of the things that made Dead Rising unique. Without a timer, parts of the experience can feel dull, prime example being the infinity mode in 1 and sandbox in 2. Everything in the first two games are built around the timer system, and it has the player have to think about how to best deal with it. It also enforces that “everything is a weapon” because you have to balance between strong weapons and weapons that clear out hordes the fastest. It’s all about that tension, that to the wire moments you have, and it gives a greater sense of urgency to both gameplay and even the story. If you’re not quick enough you’ll have to make the tough calls at times, but surprisingly you can do everything in one run, hard as it is. Taking it out of 4 was streamlining the series hard for us OG fans, even though it was meant to “go back to its roots,” and it seemed like the more appealing the series tried to become by getting rid of or simplifying its core mechanics, the less interesting and more generic the games are. Even though it’s the central focus, Dead Rising was never about just killing zombies, and DR4 is a prime example of what happens when that’s all the developers seem to focus on.
