Really enjoying the upgraded VCQ, the production on this weeks live sounded spot on! Far play Katherine for stepping in to help dear Michael with the (ahem) knob twiddling - having been to Schwangri-La for an experience day it’s obvious how vital you are to the team and how high a mountain of admin you deal with, so also getting involved with the production while Dan is away (get well soon Dan!) I tip my hat and plectrum to you madam!

I was required to withstand instruction in "Theory" as a piano student. I had no problem regurgitating information. Putting it into useful application required a deeper understanding of relationships. Many years later, when confronted by the need to instruct others to play well with each other, I had to devise various chord fingerings for different players in order to keep them off the top of each other. That was the "turning point". I have since compiled a listing of theoretical relationships which helps me to relate each concept to the other. I have put "under my belt" only those which have been applied within musical creations. I believe that to be the "key" (pun intended).

Mick, based on your serial number of *7 6155* … Your Lester is a 2006 1957 model and was the 155th reissue built by Gibson that year. The reissue serial numbers repeat every decade, so the check to do to determine whether it's a '06 or a '16 would be to check the date codes on the CTS pots. If you see something like 1370625, it's a CTS (137) pot made in 2006 (06) in week 25 (25). If it's a 2016, the 4th and 5th digits will be 16. I'm envious. I love that Lester to pieces. ❤ In my world, after the great COVID culling to pay rent, I was left with a LP Special and my '62 RI fretless Jazz Bass. Since then, I was gifted a 2005 LP Studio (Arctic White, ebony board) and an M-Audio Oxygen Pro 61 MIDI controller. We're making music again.

The "trick" to sound "mixing" is achieving balance within a minimum and maximum auditory threshold (determined largely by the consensus of reactions within a given space).

Get well Dan. I always think I'll be able to catch the show live when we have a Monday holiday here in the States but something inevitably comes up. Mother Nature served up a glorious 65F day for November 11! and my son and I went for a nice hike around a lake here in town. Please send some of that rain to the Northeast of the USofA. We haven't had much for two months and forest and brush fires are abundant.

Mick: I was diagnosed as combined adult ADHD last year at 49 years old. Everything I thought I knew about how I thought changed as I begin to understand what it all means And how the medication’s have changed how I am. Mostly for the better. If Dan believes he is somewhere on the spectrum, it is worth his time to talk to somebody. Wondering makes it worse.

Suggest asking your doctor about a ketogenic-focused diet rich in whole foods. Basically a lot of meat, fish and vegetables i.e. whole real foods. Throw out ultra processed foods entirely and minimize processed foods, the occasional ice cream or pasta in moderation every now and then. Doctor will likely say there’s no known benefit for ADHD but there’s more to the story.

I've actually spent the past year going through everything, and have taken many steps - eliminated processed foods, got my exercise and step count in order, my sleep is on point, I get out and touch grass, and I'm well-hydrated. Strategies for the brain are a work in progress but will probably always be so on some level. Cheers.

I like using earphones only when I want to remove the "room sound" while tweaking a "base" setting. I prefer a less pure sound when playing/practicing/rehearsing so that I remain sensitive to shaping tones to a room.

We should all realize that all electrically driven and/or electricity reactive devices have an electro-magnetic component which is largely material. We should all also realize that all matter is made up of electrons in various configurations and proportions. That understanding should logically lead one to accept that there is interaction in the physical world between matter and its components.

re: the pick thing: currently only BOG street seems to make a thing, Dunlop used to make them too. A little plastic clip to attach picks to your guitar strap. I don't understand why it doesn't catch on, it is bloody brilliant. I can tuck away my pick on my strap and keep a spare pick there too. I can play with my pick caught in my middle finger (like Mick demonstrated) but it does impare your fingerpicking a bit. Chris Buck does it with his index finger but he doesn't use that finger to pick

If it's of any interest Mick, Coda Music currently has a Two Rock Burnside (6V6 version) for £2599. The TR website says the amp is 6L6 powered, so, I don't if there's an option or a version history there to be unearthed.

Modes are simply variations of scales which lend an additional tonal implication and used by the more creative musician (sometime unaware in the moment of use). Not employing them is to assign unnecessary imitation.

I'm by no means an expert, but i thought the serial number indicates 7 - it's a 57, 6 - from 2016, then the rest is the number of the instrument from that year, so the 155th

Upgrades are only that which improves above the minimum standards (as required by the player). A "sub standard" one cannot be brought up to expectations with any number of "upgrades".

There is a company that makes spring-loaded picks. You can use them in the normal manner, or finger pick, without "hiding" the pick.

I have a Q about wet dry. Being doing it for a few years now, and I love it. But I have a problem at rehearsal, I cant get the volume down low enough, 2 amps are just too loud. So would you rather go with one amp at a good volume/sweet spot or 2 amps a little low and no sweetspot? Guess I know the answer, but would love to hear hour view on it. next rehearsel im going to just go with 1 amp.

Feedback, room/vocal level, a bit quiet, but passable. It was when you went to guitar/amp, far too quiet. Not being critical, I’d tune in if y’all recorded in a drain pipe. I also realize (we all do) that you can’t address problems effectively in the absence of good data. Hope this helps, Cheer’s!

Mick - appreciate that you did tread delicately around the subject but I think the narrative that ADHD and other similar 'spectrum disorders' can be called superpowers is incredibly damaging and othering to people who suffer without any of the perceived upsides. Saying this with great love and respect for your work and your ongoing curiosity.
