Happy to have you back. On the west coast of the U.S., I wake early on Thursdays and lie abed watching the show! I have a Monsterpiece germanium fuzz -the result of your Analogman fuzz show, numerous hours of research, and a middling budget. It is a very nice pedal. Two observations in addition to your excellent comments: when following an envelope filter, the filter not only sounds shrill and awful, it gets really loud. When following a buffered pedal, the fuzz isn’t too bad, but it loses all of its ability to clean up with the guitar volume control. The Monsterpiece GE otherwise cleans up brilliantly, a major reason I chose it, thanks to what I learned from the aforementioned show. I find this is also true of some overdrive pedals.
@ThatPedalShow6 жыл бұрын
+Mark Sieber yep, they’re all a tad different, react differently in situation, it’s really interesting. Monsterpiece sounds awesome

Welcome back, guys! When you did your extended piece on the Analog Man Sun Faces, I didn’t think there was much difference between the silicon and germanium variants, but back in the shed the NKT Red Dot sounds so much more alive, and works so much better with the wah pedals! Muffs are generally not as sensitive as fuzzfaces to what’s put ahead of them in the signal path, but that said I’ve not heard any Sovtek-style muff sound as good as that Russian Pickle, with or without the wah and/or buffer. Still wouldn’t swap it, though, for my Vick Audio 73 Ram’s Head - check it out!

28:19 This is a point that I think a lot of people (myself included) forget. Having a clean vs dirty amp as your base really impacts where you should put your fuzz/wah. Honestly, it's the reason why I have two fuzzes; one before, one after the wah. I have a Bassbreaker and love the "Mid" channel, but sometimes when I'm running a looper or need to be clean for part of a song I have to switch to the "Low" channel and it kills my JHS Firefly. Throw in a Tone City Fuxx Fuzz after the wah, and I'm good to go.

guys, regarding humbuckers and Sunface NKT: this pedal has a little dial built on the board, you can tweak that dial to adapt it to humbuckers. a notch down does it for me as opposed to playing single coils. Been using that pedal for 10 years solid with Les Pauls and Juniors, and it sounds killer. Also, always power an NKT with way less power than required. Some people have it modded to 4.5v. Mine is on battery, but I use cheap corenr shop type alkaline batteries, or value ranges. Never use a Duracell in it!

This is topic that I had to deal with with my board. I have a MXR LaMachine & Vox V847 (amongst other things) and when I initially put my board together I put my Polytune between the wah & fuzz thinking it would cause a sort of break & allow the two to work together. Nope! Wouldn't work together at all, just would not wah with it. Now I have them right next to each other in the chain & they work it'll wah. However the wah adds a substantial amount of high frequency boost to the fuzz, so even when it works it's a crap shoot.

I have heard lots of people who say “my overdrive pedal is too bright”. And it is because of their lack of buffers. Is not the pedal, it is because they have high frequencies loss when everything is off, so they compensate on the amp, and as soon as the overdrive is on, the loss is no longer there so it gives the impression that the problem is the pedal. Just saying that for anyone who has that impression because I have seen a lot of cases since true bypass became “the law”.

I have run into similar problem with an octavio pedal (EHX Octavix). Originally I put it after the Wah, as I thought it is not a Germanium device, it is not a rangemaster or a fuzz face, so it can go after the wah. It sounded terrible. Than I placed the Octavix in front of the Wah, now it sounds awesome together with the wah (and without it as well).

Interesting subject this, I had issues running a wah before the Keeley Monterey (fuzz/vibe pedal) with the similar noises you were getting there with the Hubcap John. I found that the only way I could remedy it was placing a Boss tuner between the two pedals acting as a buffer while the tuner wasn’t engaged.Gives me another reason to buy a 183 Analogman sun face now though! Great video thanks!

Yeah!!! Great episode legends!! I don’t care what people say, I’ve always run my wah before the the fuzz. (Sometimes better results than others but mostly great!) The RMC10 sounds great in front of the Red Dot and weirdly if I happen to leave the BiComp on at the start of the chain the Analogman fuzz still sounds awesome!!
@ThatPedalShow6 жыл бұрын
RMC10 has ‘fuzz friendly’ something or other. Which probably means a buffer in the output maybe? Interesting!

That Pedal Show My solution to the "wah into Fuzz Face" problem was instead of modding all of my wah pedals with output buffers, I got a germanium Fuzz Face clone that has variable resistance at the input. In my case, a Hartman Germanium FF that, in addition to the standard output level control, has an INPUT level pot. By using the input control to add some resistance at the input of the FF, it allows you to use any wah, buffered or not into the FF without any oscillation or other problems that can occur when putting wah into Fuzz Face. The Hartman is also a great sounding germanium FF to start with. I think AnalogMan also offers an option for a pot that puts resistance on the input of the Sunface, which accomplishes a similar thing. Just thought I'd mention this, as I don't think u touched on that way of dealing with "wah into FF" issues. I am a big fan of your channel, great episode and very helpful.
@YU-qn1tm3 жыл бұрын
That solution can work pretty good and those are great sounding fuzz pedals. However, that solution does also have the side effect of lowering the gain of the fuzz pedal much like slightly lowering the volume pot on the guitar.
@Les5376 жыл бұрын
Nice work, boys. I run a Clyde -> Fulltone v2 '69 germanium fuzz -> Tumnus(buffer always on by design) -> OCD (buffer turned off) -> Octopuss echo (thanks santa!) into a Vox AC15c. I bought the Clyde just for that buffer switch. In the end the wah buffer doesn't make any noticeable difference when the '69 fuzz is on in my set up so I leave it off. I do really love the Clyde sound and sweep. So much range and wonder in that wha and it's built like a tank. Post fuzz buffer : I was worried that the Tumnus buffer might have been gimping the '69 and so I bought a loop switcher and set it all up. The end result was that Tumnus buffer did make a noticeable difference to the fuzz, but very mild and not really in a bad way. It was adding a bit of top in much the same was as it would with no fuzz - a very little amount, but there. In the end I decided to remove the looper and just keep an old school simple set up. Your show has taught me a lot. I'm overjoyed with my sound these days (and my new SG special! mm that Gibson nitro smell. Perhaps 2018 will be collectors :p). Keep on rocking, boys!

I was for years Brett - Mick here. Then I got a proper Fuzz Face and a Marshall. And then I found a whole new, complementary world. Strat, dimed FF, Marshall, guitar volume pot. Some of the best clean tones ever! Cheers!

I had that problem with the wah before the fuzz and also tried a buffer pedal between them. But when I used a compressor between the Wah and fuzz there was no problem. Like Mick the whole . impedance thing just goes over my head.

Impressed with the 52, I have a 51 "telecaster 2016" and that neck is the thing

65 neck are good but about as small as I would go. Try 59

+Jeremy Fearnsides cheers J, I wasn’t happy having a neck that was s million miles away from Red. The 52 is still thicker, but not crazy, so it’s easy to swap between the two :)

59 large c is ideal

I have 63 with a 59 with twisted tele pickups. v good but I prefer my 51 tele custom shop with modern wiring and grease bucket. However, your guitar sounds cool. My go to guitar is the 51 telecaster custom shop. I play 11-52 run a dual set up with a 5E3 and a Matchless lighting. Put the pedal through the Vicky 20112 (MXR reverb, MXR delay, BB premamp ). Love your progrMME

Yet another great show. Many thanks - I prefer Wah after Fuzz, usually.......... I still can’t get that big WOW sound at the start of “Rainy Day, Dream Away” . Pete.

Eeeeee what a sound! Load of reverb, assuming that’s outboard because it sounds like a Plexi to me. Maybe even through the fuzz with the volume down - still one of my fave clean sounds ever. Mick here. So so good!
