The scorpion transformation you're talking about...look who's standing in front of him...that's Cole. Hes not becoming another scorpion cuase that's already been confirmed. I do think that he his some sort of descendant though. At the end of the trailer with scorpion pulling subzero you can see Cole on a knee. Hes also frozen in the cage during the moment subzero is throwing scorpion threw the ice...haha I'm so excited for this

I think Cole Young is Sub-Zero II. Both the actor who plays Cole and the actor who plays Sub-Zero are half Chinese and half white. Scorpion and the actor who plays him is Japanese. Cole and Bi-Han both have the same marking. I think Scorpion is stalking Cole in order to find Sub-Zero. I also believe “I am Sub-Zero” isn’t the one in the trailer saying it, but it is Cole when he takes the mantle. The second Sub-Zero is named Kuai Liang. Cole Young....Kuai Liang

The name of the new character, Cole Young, totally sounds like Kuei Liang, the identity of the second Sub-Zero. So this movie's gonna be the origin story of the second, more heroic version of that character (Bi-Han was totally evil). OR, my second theory... as a kind of twist, Cole Young will still be related to the Lin Kuei clan, but in the movie he'll become Scorpion's sidekick and fight against Sub-Zero.

I think him being the second Sub-Zero is the best theory so far. I know a lot of people out there thinking he is gonna end up as Johnny Cage, and that could be. @@terrireed404 No, I didn't have a problem with Christopher Lambert as Raiden. I liked his performance and it's not his fault that the producers chose a non-Asian actor as Raiden. Maybe they thought that it would repel American viewers if they have more than two lead actors of Asian descent. But given that his costume include a Chinese-style straw hat and Kanji on his clothing, and because his name is based on Raijin, which is the god of thunder in the Japanese mythology, I reckon that the game developers made him out to be Asian.

Cole is the introductory vehicle for people who havent played the games or familiar with the lore of Mortal Combat. So while he goes through confused and slowly learning the storyline it gives the clueless audience members someone to identify with. If they just jump in, they choke themselves to a limited audience.
