Yes, it is very common for families to live together in communal compounds. My uncle and auntie split time between the states and Cebu. She was from the boonies but is smart and helped me learn some much needed discipline. She has been a nurse state side for the last 25 years. She is wonderful human being. My family lucked out with her and her family as an addition to ours.

I know several people who depends on 4P's provided by the government because they don't want to work. They will just work for a few months and then resign and choose to be jobless simply because they are used to it, many of them prefer to have a little money rather than getting tired. Michael, please consider my advice having an open mind and sense of discernment .. my suspicion started when Cat mentioned that she went to Angeles city alone and didn't elaborate why. Most single women from the provinces will never go there alone , some will and resort to "prostitution" out of financial desperation. The normative for families especially in the provinces is when a daughter especially a single mom any kind of help, the family will everything to help in every way possible. You could get yourself in great danger IF Cat results to be an opportunist...you could get deported, or worst case scenario, get arrested for being falsely accused of a crime. I have a strong gut feeling about all this Michael. Maybe just help her with rent for the two months and terminate to lease contract with the landlord. i moved to cebu in 2010 and travelled to many provinces on motorcylce trips . ililo , negros , cebu , leyte , samar . if you looking for peace and quiet , cheap living , and beautiful beaches with cheap rentals go to southern samar , you can ride a ferry from ililo to negros , then cebu then to leyte and then by road from leyet to samar . its a amazing experience and you will love it , its cheap and once you in leyte and samar there is no traffic . ive made these trips many times and everytime i had a blast and didnt cost much

Be careful with that Kat. She might ended up using you for money like what some filipina there in the province does to foreigners. Besides why quit her job if she has a daughter to support? Hey Mike, I lived in the Philippines so I get it. Your basically headed for an instant marriage with this filipina or it's expected with her family and friends. Renting her a place is not short term in the Philippines in her and her family's eyes. Bianca isn't a native or at least she didn't grow up in the Philippines, she has a western culture. My advice get back together (if you can) with your ex. What you are doing with the native is a lifetime commitment in this filipina's eyes and her family, and divorce is illegal in the Philippines, it's their culture, so please consider that when you dating, living together, volunteer to support her and her child, you could be sending the wrong message to this filipina if your not in this for a lifetime commitment.

You are right Michael. Dating or even being friends with a Filipina will be very different than in the West! But if you have feelings for each other. (And I believe so), then you have a very sweet and beautiful girlfriend. The mentality of the women there is much better than the women from the west. With a woman from the west you never know what they will do in a few years. You have now experienced it yourself! That beach place failed at being Air BnB, I'd stay there all in for 20K, but need aircon and WiFi, but then I lived a year in the Bukid in our home in Mindanao and took dipper showers with a kettle of hot water heated on palm fronds (Burns almost smokeless, and is plentiful material on Cocoanut land. 1 Kettle heats up a whole black Washtub.
