Love his Fly Over States song tho.. Check out Hank Williams Jr’s America The Way I See It album.. The American Way has one of my all time favorite lines. Some high society lady say’s “is your horse outside!”. No ma’am he’s between my legs, but you’re too fat to ride…. You are probably looking for more like Waylon Jennings (my personal favorite), Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, early George Strait, Alabama. Sooo many good ones to list. I’m also very much a Nitty Gritty Dirt band fan. Not totally country. I love Metallica, AC/DC and the like. But hell, who doesn’t? Lol

Hi, this song hit Billboard magazine and dabued on Bob Kingsley's American Country Countdown in the top 40 in January of 1990. I know this, because I have a few vinyl radio shows of American Country Countdown with Bob Kingsley, and on one of my radio shows, this song first dabued on the Billboard charts in that year, I forgot the exact date though.

Daniels did everything from serious, like this one, to comedy. One that I always like was "The Legend Of Wooley Swamp. An old southern ghost story turned into a song. If you like Simple Man, you would probably like "A Country Boy Can survive" by Hank Williams Jr. Very similar sound and subject and the visuals in the music video are great.

Charlie was so awesome live. I went to see him play 4 times, 4 great concerts. the man and his fiddle were great. You should check out Reflections. It's a tribute song to Janis Joplin, Elvis and Ronnie Van Zant from Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I was raised on country music and personally today’s country music compared to the 60-90s really suck. There’s still some good country music floating around out there but mostly by the same singers from those times that’s still singing. It’s rare to come across a new country singer in today’s times that compares to back then. Funny thing is even though I was raised on country music I’m being pulled into the 60-80s rock/pop/jazz now. Want to hear something new.

Hi Dan. Lots of great recommendations here. For me, I would suggest for Charley Daniels, of course The Devil Went down to Georgia, and a few of his lesser knowns, Uneasy Rider and Uneasy Rider 89. Hilarious. 😂. As an old boomer, I can't stress enough, 2 of my my ever favorites, Mr. Chris Ledux, and imho, the Undefeated, Undisputed, High Emperor King of country music, King George Straight. To me with both Chris and George, they both have so many hits, I'd say just dive in. You cant go wrong from any angle. But for one of each, with Chris, This Cowboys Hat will move you. With George, I used to sing Love With Out End Amen to my kids when they were babies. They never realized I can't sing AT ALL. 😂✌️

Waylon Jennings songs Amanda, are you sure Hank done it this way, I’ve always been crazy, I may be used(but I ain’t used up). If you have never heard Wheeler Walker Jr he’s a newer country artist with an old country sound. He’s a comedian start with Fuck you bitch it’s probably the cleanest song he has. Also check out Creed Fisher Don’t California my Texas or Jesse Keith Whitley Messing with the wrong man featuring Upchurch, they are both newer country artists with classic country sounds.

Check out Hank Jr. His older stuff is better than his modern stuff. It is alot like this type of music & alot of what you describe of what your looking for. Good ones are "OD'd in denver" "Knoxville courthouse blues" & "Man of Steel"

Charlie Daniels was an anazing man. His big hits were Devil Went Down to Georgia and In America. People love Long-Haired Country Boy, but that one leaves me "meh". I saw him live at a random county faur in, of all places, Oregon - long way from Tennessee, and that'swhere I first heard this one. Charlie was a no-nonsense guy. He was booked for some DC soiree shortly after he brought out "This Ain't No Rag, Its a Flag", a response to 9/11. The organizers tried to tell him he couldn't do that song because it might offend someone, so he kissed them off and refused the invitation to perform. Also suggest Toby Keith. He has goofy stuff like Red Solo Cup and As Good as I Once Was, and serious like Courtesy of the Red White and Blue.
