I was talking to a friend about this "new" Salah the other day. I felt in the last couple seasons Salah was struggling a little bit to come to terms with his age. He would often try to take players on for speed and failing. And again and failing. He seems to have finally understood he can't do that anymore, so he's learned to time everything perfectly. He slows down when he has to, passes when he has to, and dribbles when he feels he can get past a player. But he matured massively this season and adapted his game fantastically.

I feel like if you watch his interviews before he got to liverpool and some of the ones after, he speaks a great deal about evolving his game for where he is and what he feels capable of doing. Slott has done a great job at taking Jurgens team and molding them to play the football that he needs to get them to win games. He’s made them consistent winners, which I give him a lot of credit for because you have to come in and do it after Klopp who was/is so beloved by his players, staff and fanbase, Arne has shown he is brilliant in his own way. It’s also perfect timing because a lot of teams are underperforming, if he can go out and nick a title right from the start it would be a great way to get his name into the history books and allow him more breathing room.

Every manager will make a few mistakes with transfers, but overall Klopps recruitment was amazing which was the result of the club ensuring a thorough due diligence was carried out with every signing. Very few of his signings were complete flops, but he was able to move on those he didn’t think were what he wanted and still made the money back on them on the whole. We definitely didn’t take a huge hit on any that I can think of.

Arne has come in with similar tactics to Jurgen, but he's tempered the defenders bombing forward all the time, and we look a bit more solid defensively. We aren't going behind like we did a lot last season, and he's managing the minutes so we don't run out of steam.

As a Liverpool fan, I'm excited but not getting too carried away. I've got a feeling Arsenal are coming into form and have a run of very winnable games. If they win 5 in a row in the run up to Christmas, which is perfectly plausible, and Liverpool have a loss and a draw, we'd be going into the second half of the season with 4 points in it. Arsenal had a dodgy start to the season and some bad luck but it's a long season. I don't see Man City winning it. The 115 is hanging over them.

Slot or Klopp aside, it's Michael Edwards and his team of statisticians who are responsible for the strength of the team. Bringing back Edwards is a masterstroke by FSG to ensure the long term success of the project. Edwards was involved in bringing in the right players to win CL and the PL with Klopp and now he is involved in the evolution/progression of the talent level in the squad.

Im not being funny, but i really think the opening talk is unfair on liverpool. They have had an amazing start and they look the real deal regardless of what anyone else is doing in the league. If Man city were top right now, flying, and liverpool and arsenal had a shakey start, we wouldnt be saying "are we saying man city are title favourites because the other teams had a shakey start" no we wouldnt, because city are a great team. I disagree with the notion that Arsenal is out of the title race. In my opinion, they are Liverpool’s main challengers. As for Manchester City, I believe their season is effectively over; they will still finish in the top four, but a rebuild is necessary. Even before their recent losing streak, teams like Fulham should have managed to beat City. Their defense appears disorganized and vulnerable. I expect Liverpool to sense this weakness on Sunday, resulting in a comfortable victory for them.

Brilliant analogy from Lawrence about boxing. It's like Slot sets up to feel them out in the first half, works out what needs to be done and Liverpool come out all guns blazing in the second half of games. Klopp and Slot can be compared to Shankly and Paisley in the fact that like Shanks Klopp built the foundations of a successful era and Slot is the new Paisley to take up what Klopp built up and take the club forward to further success just like Paisley did after Shanks retired.
