Ron Wolf/Mike Holmgren changed the quarterback culture in GB. It goes beyond Wolf trading a first round pick for a 3rd string Atlanta quarterback. Look at some of the quarterbacks that were drafted while Favre was in GB. Many went on to have good NFL careers of their own. Mark Brunell (stared 151 games) Ty Detmer (1990 Heisman Winner), Matt Hasselbeck (started 131 games in the NFL, Aaron Brooks (Saints Hall of Fame), Kurt Warner (undrafted in GB, but won a Superbowl elsewhere), Danny Wuerffel (1996 Heisman Winner), Doug Pederson (Super Bowl winning coach), & Aaron Rodgers. Holmgren's coaching staff - Jon Gruden, Dick Jauron, Steve Mariucci, Andy Reid, Ray Rhodes, Marty Mornhinweg, Mike Sherman, and Jim Zorn (all became head coaches at some point in their careers). Favre, Rodgers, & Love is only part of the story!

I'd go even higher than that. The Packers board of directors in the 70's and 80's was a mess. It wasn't until they got their act together and hired Bob Harlan in '89 where things started to change a bit. So many folks in there who just didn't know the first thing about running a football team in that era. But once Harlan hired Wolf and then Holmgren, it changed for decades. In fact I wore my mid-90's Packers jacket out earlier today and was just thinking about this.

Another Niner fan - I have been saying for a while Brock Purdy benefitted from 4 full seasons in college in a top level conference. Plus he played 4 Bowl games and a Big 12 Championship. The one thing he does miles better than Trey Lance and a lot better Jimmy G is handling the situation when plays start breaking down. He just processes what's going on faster and I think its because of those 4 hard years in college where he had to develop that skill. PLUS he also played in those big stadiums with massive hostile crowds. Trey Lance and Jimmy G both didn't have that same level of college experience. It was really noticeable in Trey Lance. Jimmy G. (who I think got badly treated) is great when plays work as planned, but struggles when they don't. Plus he served his pro-apprenticeship in New England which built around pocket passing. I'd like to see him go back to New England where I think might shine. I think the Niners just got damn lucky with Purdy and we should just be damn grateful he's the right guy at the right time. It might have been so easy to not even put him on the roster. Brady went 199th in his draft and New England could have easily dumped him too. Sometimes you just get lucky.

They are actually the only team allowed this exception cause they have been a public non profit since 1923. What people forget is that Jordan Love is the veteran player in this offense. It's not your usual circumstance with a first year starter, and it's definitely benefited Love towards having more leadership in his first year starting than you'd typically see
@camhanes94610 ай бұрын

But again, he's had a ton of bad to average games and playing well for 3-4 games in a row doesn't mean anything really, unless you're a GB QB apparently.

During training camp, the whole conversation from the Packers WR's & O-line re: Love was how excited they were for him and how they couldn't wait to start playing with him. Jordan Love had this team's trust and loyalty the whole season, and he's continuing to trying to build relationships with his teammates, especially his receivers. Now, he could have 5-7 legitimate good targets to throw to next year. Defensive strategy against Love and the Packers for the next 2-3 years could easily become "pick your poison"; which receiver are you going to have to leave open to let him and Love shred you to pieces?

I cant even imagine what could have been all the "bust" QB picked top 15 if given this much patience instead of throwing them in action the first year and discarding them after the rookie contract end
@UTxTheArchangel10 ай бұрын
This is only his first season as the starter so there is still a lot to see with him. But what I will say that helps the Packers land consistent QBs is time. Packers don't draft QBs when they NEED a QB, they draft QBs for the future when their current franchise QB is still active. Rodgers at behind Favre for a few seasons, learning the offense, learning the NFL, seeing how a HOF QB plays. Jordan sat behind Rodgers for a few seasons and did the exact same thing. Packers QB aren't starting their rookie season. Most rookie QBs fail for this reason, they aren't ready and they don't even get the time to get ready. If that rookie QB sucks for a season and a half he's done. He's drafted to a bad team with likely has a bad OL, mediocre or bad defense, and maybe 1 target to throw too. Packers have a draft formula and it works out. Same happens with them at WR.

Green Bay's pass protection is WAY better than the Bronco's pass protection. Hell, Mike McGlinchey lost his job in San Francisco because his pass protection is atrocious, and that's who the Broncos brought in at right tackle. Yep. That's a recipe for success, right there...
@Grable42410 ай бұрын
@@wyotriumphriderOur pass pro this season has actually been very middle of the road by basically every metric. It was even flat out bad during the 4 game losing streak. Love has gotten way better at compensating for it by getting the ball out super fast and avoiding pressure as he’s developed through the season. It’s definitely not a dominant Oline that the packers have had in previous years while also not being terrible.

I’ve been a Packers fan since the Ice Bowl in 1966. I was so happy to see AR-12 go to the NYJets! He had become a whining, self-centered, HOF dude incapable of winning the big game of the NFC Championship. The loss to Tampa Bay was just over the top. The public discussion of his use of hallucinogenic drugs and alcohol drinking combined with his ridiculous contract convinced me that it was time to try anyone else out at QB. Hopefully JL-10 will work out and he won’t start sharing about his private life. I’m hopeful.

This is what the Lions plan is with Hendon Hooker. Hooker would have likely been a late first rounder if it weren’t for his ACL injury in college last year. Goff is only under contract through the end of next season, which ultimately gives Hooker two full seasons to sit and learn behind Goff before getting the nod.
