This song is amazing... first you’re blown away by Gillan's delicate, soulful vocals ... then you’re blown away by his screams ... then you;re blown away by Blackmore's solo ... then you're blown away by Jon Lord's keyboard .... and all the while underlining it all and driving it forward are Paice and Glover, each a world-class musician in their own right .... what a triumph!

Ian Gillan had an incredible voice. Pavarotti was a HUGE fan. He thought Ian had one of the best voices he'd ever heard! Ian was also 'Jesus' in the original recording of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. Andrew Lloyd Webber wanted him to be his leading man on stage in the West End of London and on Broadway in New York but Ian preferred to stay with Deep Purple. You should check out his performance in Jesus Christ Superstar though. It's pretty amazing! In the World of rock music he's undoubtedly one of the GOATs. Many would say THE GOAT! Even in popular music generally, he's considered one of the GOATs! His influence on rock music, and beyond, has been immense! :)

The keyboard sound is a Hammond organ. The old analog sound of yester-year still cannot be truly replicated with digital technology. Ian Gillan's vocal style was not taught or copied (there was nobody to copy or teach this in 1970 and no internet either) it was developed entirely on his own. Kids back then didnt waste their time playing computer games , they practiced and practiced. This song is a master piece. It is sad that most music of today has lost its soul and that many young people can no longer sit attentively and truly listen and enjoy brilliance .

I heard Hush and Kentucky Woman on the radio and like them. When I got paid from my afternoon paper Route I went to the Record store and looked around and I saw the Deep Purple In Rock Album in new release Section. I loved the Mount Rushmore Parity. I had no idea about the change of the singer and bass player. I didn't know anyone's name in the band. So for $2:49 I bought In Rock. When I put the Album on my GE Wildcat Stereo and when Speed King Came on I was blown away as were my parents Haha. I have been hooked on Deep Purple since that first encounter with what has been my favorite Studio Album for 52 years. I see so many comments about Ian Gillian and he deserves every one of them as do Lord, Glover, and the Original Energizer Bunny Ian Paice. But I know a lot of people that don't mention Blackmore because of his attitude. That attitude is responsible for some of the Greatest if not the greatest music ever produced. Ritchie was doing Metal licks here and there on the first three albums of Mark l. He took live guitar to a higher level. I am absolutely puzzled why Ritchie isn't considered in the top three Rock Guitarist of all time. To me he was the best and he was the Original Shredder. Hendrix called Ritchie Mr. Speed after he saw Deep Purple in Los Angeles after Cream wouldn't let them warm up Cream on Cream's Farewell Tour. I can't remember if Deep Purple got fired after 3 or 5 shows. They were showing Cream up. I am pretty sure it was because Ritchie was crushing it. Hendrix told Jon Lord that their guitarist is something special. Deep Purple partied with Hendrix at the same house the Manson Family murdered Sharon Tate. I believe about a year later. Hendrix performed two shows with Jon Lord in New York sometime later. Jon said when Hendrix walked away was the last time he saw Jimmy. Jon and Jimmy were the nicest and humble performers. If Hendrix saw that Blackmore was great I can't see how others can't see it or especially hear it. Rib Jon and Jimmy!

Deep Purple were insanely awesome.. So many amazing songs, so much talent.. I am so glad you got to see this video.. Deep Purple are the kind of band where you put on the album & end up listening to both sides all the way through.. One of my favourite bands ever.. So many bands were like that back in the day, just great song after great song unlike today.. Songs were songs, they weren't these BS 3 minute hook songs that ya sick of hearing after 3 times.. Just my opinion of course but i am always right just ask me..

DUDE, not sure if you figured out where you recognized the song from at 6:18, but that exact part of the song was in the movie Twister! That's actually how I got into Deep Purple to begin with. The video is not of child in time because it’s from California Jam where they did not play it, as Gillian had left and been replaced by David Coverdale. The director just mashed the two together. Film makers what they like eh?
