BothTom Jones and Celine Dion were so awed by John Farnham's vocal talents that they tried to persuade him to move to the U.S. to further his career.John decided against it, not wanting to uproot his family.He also stopped most of his touring abroad because he and his wife missed each other too much when apart. He even wrote a song about what it was like missing her so. I think it's called "Burn For You." So Australia got to keep John, which is why most of the rest of the world has missed out on hearing his amazing voice for all these years.

people say about this performance and rightly so that John was a tiny bit in awe of Tom and his magnificent voice, but when John is singing that high and long note, look at Tom's eyes, he is so impressed that, he is mentally preparing for his next turn, he doesn't want to stuff up either. I think there was equal respect going on here.

I'm a 46 yr old aussie, my first cassette was the wishpering jack album. I dropped it in a creek and after the only song that worked was your the voice. Decades later it's so inspiring that one of the greatest singers in the world is still amazing people around the world. On a personal note I love your admiration for Johnny. Watching your reactions brings a tear to my eyes watching g how much you enjoy an Aussie artist. I know this is an old post but hopefully you see it. I've seen Johnny live lots of times but one of the best was seeing him in the stage production of "Jesus Christ superstar" with another great Aussie Kate Cebrano. I hope you enjoy.

Amazing voice, and all round great bloke. A friend of mine is a roadie and years ago was working on a John Farnham show. He and a few other blokes were packing up some equipment afterwards, when a manager came out and asked them if they'd like some dinner. They said yes and expected to be handed a meat pie and a can of coke. Nope.. they were escorted to a room where they were sat at a table with a delicious cooked meal. Next minute, John Farnham walks in and sits at the table to join them for dinner and a chat ❤

Hey hey it's Saturday was a TV show on Saturday night that most Aussie family tuned into. It was an incredibly funny show that had lots of talent appearing on it. Daryl summers was the host next to Tom and Molly meldrum next to John. Molly is the reason we have such a huge Australian music industry. John is just incredible. Aussie royalty 🇦🇺🪃
@RolandDeschain1
@RolandDeschain1 2 жыл бұрын
Molly was definitely a figure of fun on that show, and got the piss taken out of him mercilessly. But he is an incredibly important figure, not just in Australian music but around the world. He was hugely influential in giving early exposure to artists like ABBA, Madonna, Prince and even Michael Jackson when he went solo. Molly saw Madonna playing a crappy club in New York on the early 80s and invited her to come to Australia and be on COUNTDOWN. And he was calling Prince a genius from day one. So he was one of the very few people who could actually get an interview with Prince or Madonna. And that was partly because Molly only ever cared about the MUSIC. He didn't ask about personal stuff.

There is a longer version of My Yiddishae Momme of them together and I love it. I’m absolutely loving that you’re giving our fabulous John the accolades he deserves! Truly, John is the most “Aussie” Australian. He’s a larrikin & bit of a comedian & a genuinely delightful person all wrapped into this incredible talent! Thank you 😊

It’s probably been mentioned already but, these dudes did a tour of Australia together and I saw them in Brisbane and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen 😎

This is now part of Aussie TV history. Two of the most beloved vocalist doing an impromptu duet. Tom was not young here. He toured with the Beatles in the 60s.
