James Blunt never fails to be bravely and brutally honest in baring all, but if you look at his military life before this it makes sense coz he's really seen some true horror and it probably gives you perspective on what matters - it comes.out in his music in a way you don't get from many.

Hi Nic, isn’t this song a gift to humanity that he was willing to express such raw emotion, especially for men who struggle to express their feelings ( or anyone really). I think this song has connected so many adult children with their parents and be able to say difficult things that need to be said before it’s to late.

I lost my dad to cancer many years ago when I was a teenager, and this song always brings him to mind and chokes me up. If you’d like something a little upbeat for Father’s Day, though, I can heartily recommend Aus band Weddings Parties Anything and their song Fathers Day. It’ll warm your heart, I’m sure.

James Blunt always hits hard. He writes from personal experiences and he has experienced some brutal things. "No Bravery" comes to mind, him writing about what he saw while leading a tank battalion through Kosovo during the war in 1998. The war footage shown in this live version is what James personally recorded while over there: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZmXYoqumt9shqc Or his sheer genius poetry put to music like "The Greatest": kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6fcXoewjsplsNE

This is the first time his dad had heard the song. They are both military men and emotions didn’t always come easy for them but his Dad had a very small chance of survival at the time this was made. A distant cousin saw the video and came forward and was a match :):)

James dad was actually dying from kidney disease & this was his tribute & farewell to his dad. Thankfully his dad received a donor kidney & is doing okay now. If this song doesn't get to you emotionally, there is something wrong with you. This song resonates with me as I was my dad's caregiver for 5 years until he passed away 3 years ago.

James and his father were both military men. James was actually a tank commander in the first gulf war. When he was being deployed, his father would say: "You're not my son, I'm not your father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye...". This song breaks me every time I hear it. The video was shot in one take, because James wanted the emotion to be raw and genuine. His father was diagnosed with terminal kidney disease and this was written as a goodbye. In a positive irony, the song was so popular, it got the attention of a distant relative who turned out to be a match for a kidney donation and his dad is now doing well. James said at the time my father is my hero and still is. This song is extremely emotional and very special 👍🏻😁🏴

I never been the biggest fan of James blunt. Maybe because the song "Your beautiful" got played so many times a day on the radio and everywhere you went... But this song/video is something else. I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago i had no idea what i was in for, this song hit me like a fridge to the face.. What a song.. Its filled with so much emotion and it really makes it hard to keep the tears back.. The day we're losing a parent is the day we all dread. Unfortunately it its a part of life. After this video his dad did found a donor, a distant cousin. And he is doing good now. Thank God.. Shout out to Dj 🐢! Edit: R. I. P Dj Turtle. Miss you buddy.

I’ve found that the best songs in an artist’s catalogue are often the ones that don’t get radio play. Another song that’s James at his best is “No Bravery” where he describes the horrors he witnessed at war. James actually had a pivotal role in preventing surefire WW3 by disobeying an order to try to take an airport held by the Russians. Later, he was a member of the Queen’s Guard, guarded the Queen Mother’s coffin, and was part of her funeral procession.

“Monsters” was a heartfelt tribute to his father. The emotional track reflects the deep bond between them and a touching farewell. In the music video for “Monsters,” James Blunt sings directly to the camera, his eyes welling up with tears...The video is so powerful because sitting beside James Blunt is his real-life dad, Colonel Charles Blount. who was a former cavalry officer, battling stage 4 chronic kidney disease. The song captures the raw emotions of facing mortality and saying the things one wants to say to a loved one before it’s too late 💗 I can never get through this, without crying..........
@allisonnancholas96202 жыл бұрын
The line "I'm not your son you're not my father we're just 2 grown men saying goodbye" was what he dad said to him obviously in reverse, when he said goodbye to James when James went to the Kosovo war where he served as a tank commander. All proceeds to the song went to the veterans charity Help for Heros.

I'm glad you don't know how this feels from personal experience. Just remember before its to late spend every possible moment you can with your dad. Do things with him and ask him all the questions you want to know while he's still here. The beautiful thing about this song, for me, is that James really did chase his fathers monsters away! Because of this song, a distant cousin came forward and was a match for his dad. Just beautiful. When this was recorded, it was the first time his father ever heard the song, and James insisted that the video not be edited in any way.

Hi Nick I understand why you fade the video etc....but if it's ok can you put a blank screen or plain curtain behind it? As some of it is on the wardrobe and some is over the pic on the wall...which make it almost impossible to see anything at all. Just asking...don't hate me. What I could see was your reaction to this hauntingly beautiful song....it stirs up so much emotion doesn't it. All proceeds from this went to find a cure for Kidney disease...

The emotionality and the emotional disconnect ..that juxtaposition... "I'm not your son, you're not my father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye. No need to forgive, no need to forget, I know your mistakes and you know mine." Geez... I'm just listening to every reaction I can find and crying ugly tears each time.
