John Farnham is the Steve Irwin of singing... Australians will understand this. He was kind of Daggy. A ball of energy. And super enthusiastic about everything he did. You see him back stage and with friends and you can tell he is just a big hearted guy with supreme passion for what he does.

Totally agree....me being a muso and I did carpentry work at studios around Sydney back in 80's/90's and Farnsy and band were rehearsing next to the rehearsal room where I was working. I was having lunch sitting on my saw stool and John Farnham walks past me and says hi....of course I was blown away. We chatted for about 20 minutes. Him being a plumber and me being a chippy we had the tradie thing in common. He was like a mate I hadn't seen for a while just catching up. Yet I'm sitting their cause one of my idols is taking the time to chat to me and I'm pinching myself cause I just went to work and that happened. I'll never forget how down to earth he was. Plus he said to me "Do you want to come in after we have lunch and have a listen?" Ummm of course I said YES. To hear and sit a few metres away and hear the sheer power of john's voice was amazing. It was just so powerful and his range was mind blowing as we all know. He was jamming vocals in between rehearsing and I wish mobile phones like we have now were out back then cause I would've recorded it. I'm lucky to have that memory and experience.

Yes and I love that big wheezey laugh of his too. I remember when John was a guest on Jenny Seaton's chat show here in Perth in the 80s. She was so admiring of John and she wanted to let him know how much she worshipped him. In her mind she felt he was such a great God of talent that she wanted to genuflect to him as a display of worship. In her flustered excitement she said ..... " Oh John I feel I need to flatulate (fart) in your presence." as she did a small curtsey and hand to forehead movement. The audience burst out laughing and so did John with that big wheezey laugh. " What a ripsnorter !" he gasped. Jenny was at first confused then red with embarrassment and the giggles. It took sometime for everyone to settle down. I've searched long before this date but I think that, unfortunately, the taping of this show was not kept. Pre internet days.

Yes you are Correct John's Only 2 Songs He had Success with over there in the U.S. was You're the Voice and Two Strong Hearts ...When He released Other Songs of His To the Recording Companys in the U.S. they were Confused Because they didnt know what Style John's voice Was He was Singing all types of genres of music like pop rock Country RnB Jazz etc They couldnt fit him into a Slot and Give him a Record Deal because It was Way too Confusing him singing All these different types and Styles Of Music They Couldnt Understand it ....and to those Record companies I Say "UP YOURS✌️" John being able to sing All types and styles of Music is what Makes him one of the worlds Greatest Male Vocalists 😊👌

@@leandabee Yesss true the Only 2 tho that Definitely had Moderate Success Was You're the voice and Two Strong Hearts Once John released You're the Voice In 1987 He Didnt release it to the U.S. Market until 1990 However The previous year in 1989 "Two Strong Hearts" Gave John His First And LAST Solo U.S. Top 40 Hit Because it Reached #38 On the U.S. Adult Contemporary Chart Then Off the Success of that You're the Voice was Released in 1990 to The U.S. Market and it Didnt Do well But it didnt do bad either Reaching #82 On the Billboard Hot 100 so Other than those 2 songs that he was Successful over there Most of his other Songs Were never released there or if they were it was Declined because He sang multiple styles and genres of music they didnt know what genre to Place him in which is utter Bullshit i know But Yeah Luckily Australia, NZ, Canada, UK, and Many European Countries Got to experience the Magic and Talent of John and he became a Singing icon in most of them 👌 ....Have a Blessed day

This was early 90s. The comedy group were Melbourne legends, The D Generation. This was the same time that their TV sketch comedy series The Late Show was at it's height of popularity. A lot of this team are still working together as Working Dog Productions. This group created the format of the improv show Thank God You're Here, which has been franchised all around the world. Rob Sitch (the guy suggesting "Lambada" at the beginning of this video) was the director of a film called The Castle (you should do a reaction to that movie, for real), that is universally considered one of THE classic Aussie comedies. He has also created and starred in many policital satire tv comedies including Frontline, Utopia, and The Hollowmen. Tony Martin and Mick Molloy (the two suggesting "Billy Ray Cyrus") were the biggest thing on radio in Australia in the mid 90s, with an afternoon drive show that went across all major stations in whole country. They made a film together (Tony directed, Mick starred), called Bad Eggs that is also considered one of the great Aussie comedies. Mick is also in another classic Aussie comedy called Crackerjack. Santo Cilauro (the guy translating Italian for his father in this video) is probably to blame for popularizing football (soccer) in Australia in the 90s, as one of the most vocal proponents of the sport being televised more regularly here, and hosting a lot of comediac panel shows about the sport during it's rise to popularity in this country. Jane Kennedy (the one with the chainsaw) is one of the top radio presenters in the country now. There are many other impressive accolades and skills that this team has. They've done a lot over the last 40 years for comedy in this country.

Just goes to show that even if you have an extraordinary and powerful voice like John’s, there’s no need to constantly show it off. There’s a few stunning notes in here but the majority of the time he’s singing in a laidback way and everyone still enjoys it just as much. John always knows when to let loose and pull back to let those moments shine. A rare talent that not many singers possess. ❤️😊

Thanks for your hard work. A few years ago the Australian musicians and singers voted for the best Australian singer of all time and John Farnham was voted No 1. Anthony Warlow was about No. 40. And Jimmy Barnes about No. 5. Anthony Warlow is a fully trained opera singer. John Farnham has never had a single lesson. John Farnham has perfect pitch. The Australian music industry considers the other singers to be audience favourites but the music industry considers John Farnham to be a musicians musician. I love love your channel. I love when you sing along. I am Australian. The group of musicians and singers who work long term for John must have great pitch or they wouldn’t have lasted. All my love Michelle.

The comedians was known as The D Generation at that time in the earlier 90’s they a had hit show simply called The Late Show . John wrote this song with Ross Wilson another legend of Australian music industry . John Farnham braking into the American market only really happened with the Little River Band with these songs American Billboard Charts The Other Guy number 11 in 1983 We Two number 22 in 1983 You're Driving Me Out of My Mind number 35 in 1983 Playing To Win number 60 in 1984 Solo You’re The Voice number 82 sadly on Billboard charts but in 1988 , 2 years after it’s original release in Australia , but You’re The Voice was massive hit around the world peaking in top 20 in most countries it charted number 12 in Canada 6 in the UK & 1 in Germany , Sweden , Australia Two Strong Hearts number 38 on the US adult contemporary chart in 1988 John is quite humble and after 4 years touring USA with Little River Band John was over it the long USA tours and being away from his family home in Australia for extended periods of time . John’s late manager and best friend Glenn Wheatley said in a interview ; John said to him ; please don’t make me successful in the US . In the late 70’s John did a few Australian sitcoms and musical theatre for the fun of it , but acting wasn’t a passion . Thinking John also narrated a nature program in the late 70’s in Australia

John has performed brilliantly in Musicals and T.V series. He often appeared as a special guest, performed, participated in, sometimes Hosted Live T.V. Shows. He often was a special guest on live Comedian shows in the 80's, 90's like 'The Late Show', 'Hey Hey It's Saturday' and 'Fast Forward'. In this particular Music video there are a lot of well known Australian Comedians that feature. I love watching and laughing at this.

John Farnham was little Jonny Farnham in the 1960s (Look up Sadie the Cleaning Lady). Like, in 1988, my mum and I both went to his You're the Voice concerts, because she was a fan of Jonny and I was a fan of John. And yes, this was the late 80s/very early 90s. The "Billy Ray" was a reference to Billy Ray Cyrus, and yes, it had to do with trying to break o/s again. Also, a quick note on the preamble: the D Generation was based in Melbourne, which has a huge Italian and Greek migrant population, which in the late 80s/early 90s was the TV Thing to do. (Look up Effie and Wogs Out of Work). Hence, the Italian-speaking grandad. Some things need context from people who lived through it; forgive me if I'm repeating anything you already know. :D

This is the kind of song I have found myself singing whenever I have had occasion to think the phrase 'seemed like a good idea'. You know when you think in sing-song or talk in sing-song when you read familiar lyrics for example 'never gunna give you up, never gunna let you down'. What I didn't realise was who the artist was so learn something new every day.

John had a few acting roles. He had a lead voice acting role in Abra Cadabra a 3D cartoon (in fact the world's first 3D animated feature) musical of the pied piper. He had cameos in Caravan Holiday and Bullamakanka. On TV he played the assistant to an old bookseller/amateur detective in a TV movie Me and Mr Thorne (that was a pilot for a series that never happened). He also had a sitcom in the 70s where he pretty much parodied himself as young pop star dealing with the entertainment industry.

So, the comedians in the clip are known as The D Generation from the’80s and then The Late Show in the early ‘90s; most of them formed a production company called Black Dog, who produced Iconic Aussie movies The Castle and The Dish…. The band featured mainstays Lindsay Field (acoustic guitar and vocals) and Angus Birchall (drums), as well as the late Stuart Fraser (originally with Noiseworks) on guitar and Stephen Morgan (originally with Icehouse) on bass guitar. Not sure about the band. I think his band has changed over the years. Lindsay Field is on one of the guitars, and in earlier days he was a back up singer for John and a solo artist in his own right. I don't think John's been in a movie. I think he was always too busy singing or trying to retire. :)

This was a spoof piede by the hugely funny comedians of The D Generation Farnham knew it was for a joke video. All of the comics are Australian household names. It's John's original & this song was not done as a cover.

With regards to his international status, of course there was LRB but that didn’t end too well. Then he did whispering jack. Now, Glenn Wheatley had MASSIVE connections in the US and Europe, at one point in the 70’s he was David Bowies tour manager in the US. So Glenn, did try to get whispering jack into the US market. The lead single here was of course ‘You’re the voice’ but apparently the record company in the US did not agree that was a strong lead track. So they released I think ‘pressure down’ and then followed it up with you’re the voice and neither did well at all. John said it in an interview that I saw somewhere here on KZbin. Apparently ‘two strong hearts’ from the age of reason album charted in the US in 1990 so they tried again with ‘you’re the voice’ but again it didn’t do well Maybe you are right though that he didn’t fit a particular genre which m of the have turned off the US record label But he is well respected by many international acts and rightfully so

The biggest issue that US record companies had with Farnsey was that they wanted to fit him into a music genre, and he didn't fit any of thrm

John’s notoriously unfunny jokes are part of the legend.

I don’t remember John in any movie but he was in someTV series/ Shows and he wasn’t very good at acting. Just seemed too corny.
