Thoughts on Wilder and his comments: - Boxing criticisms are overstated, if only slightly. The pure punchers always get it, since it's not their first concern, but he does (or did - seems like he's lost at sea, these days) have some ability to judge distance and impose that awkward, lancing jab, until he was ready for the right. Watch, say, Bonecrusher Smith, if you want to see someone with pretty much JUST power. - "Getting exposed/no achievement" accusations also slightly overstated. Luis Ortiz (who was way too old, when he barely lost to Ruiz), Bermaine Stiverne, and even guys like Washington and Helenius are not the worst wins a paper champion ever settled for. That draw with Fury, even if it might have been generous by a round, will always give him ONE line to the upper echelons he tried to lay claim to. - Even if he left some question marks on how good he really was, there's just no angle from which a year like his last one (inactive, almost 40, and coming off his two Fury beatings) is justly where boxers are judged to still be in their prime. Even just on film, there's a serious argument that he fought back better in his 2nd fight with Fury than here. - My guess is that his legacy winds up similar to Earnie Shavers: A massive puncher capable of seriously threatening the elites but also with major shortcomings and a serious question mark to where he should be ranked. In the top 40 is probably generous, outside the top 80 is probably harsh - better than a Gerry Cooney, not as good as Max Baer, as these big punchers go.

@GustavoHeinlein7 күн бұрын
Never been the same? What are you talking about - he's always been the same, a one punch donkey. Wilder was without doubt the most 'fake' champ in boxing history. Wilder never fought anybody decent until he met Fury. He fought an old exhausted Ortiz TWICE. He fought a past his sell by date old Stiverne TWICE. He fought Szpilka and Dupahaus and Molina. Nobody... But once he was no longer champ and could not cherry pick old tired boxers, Wilder got done by Parker and Zhang. They only took the Fury fight because they incorrectly guessed Fury was a drunkard and not serious. So in Wilder's team camp, they had another 'cherry picked' win - not so.
